Nintendo 64 Discussion

http://www.ebgames.com/ebx/categori...sp?web_dept=nintendo+64&web_sub_dept=Fighting

I own 11 n64 games, and after seeing some of the low prices for these games, i might go out soon and pick up 20 more. I am really looking forward to buying MKT for n64.

Fighters Destiny 1 & 2 is 2 of the best games that i plan to get, i had them, but got rid of them for reasons back in the day, but overall great games.

Take a collection of fist-fighters, wrestlers and martial arts experts, and combine them into one tournament. But instead of relying on simply depleting the health bar, you must win points depending on how you defeat an opponent (for example, ring-outs are 1 point, special moves 4 points and countering a special move is 2 points).

Game modes include the standard VS. mode, simply defeat everyone you see. VS. Battle allows you to defeat the enemy, then acquire their moves for the next round. The Master Challenge has you spinning a wheel to determine who your fight. Spin up a Master, and you get a tough challenge in which you can win new moves. Spin a Joker, and you simply have a challenge, with nothing to gain, but everything to lose.

Fighter Destiny 2
This 2000 sequel to 1997's Fighters Destiny 2 offers more 3D fighting for 11 varied international characters in five modes of play. An element of character development is involved, with fighters training and developing new skills as they progress from one battle to the next. Skilled players can unlock additional hidden characters. The game offers several customization options, including adjustable difficulty settings, ring sizes, and scoring options. Like any good fighting game, two players can enter the ring to seek their destinies in head-to-head battles

Also i cant forget about Flying Dragon

Now this is the greatest fighter game on n64 is my opinion, next to the MK Series hands down. Lots of characters, lots of moves, supermoves, i luv that game. You can collect magic and items too.

Peace.

I KID, I KID!

I only remember ever playing 2 fighting games on the N64. Mortal Kombat Trilogy and KI:Gold. Both are must own for fighting fans.

Two of the most memorable games I played-World Driver and Top Gear Rally. The N64 catches alot of flack because it never lived up to its billing but these two games made me a believer. Not that Mario and Pilot Wings didn't do so at launch but these two racers came out of no where and amazed me at a time when I had almost given up on the system. Doom 64 and Quake 2 also kicked my ass.

^ I agree about World Driver. That was my favorite racer on N64 and I still play it to this day. It's a shame Boss studios had to shut down. I hope it's released on Revolution with a sharper resolution.

Nah, but thanks anyway. I will just pick up 20 or more when i roll out. I finsh turok rage wars about 80%, because in the later modes, the game goes from easy to impossible. Hyperbike is fun, ken griffey jr 2 is better, Mythologies is hard but not impossible, Project SWARM is fun, the graphics looks like a dreamcast game , no joke.

World Driver, nice graphics, cool music, tight control, the game gets too hard later on tho , i had to get rid of it. I think the was the reason, not really sure, if i see it, i will pick it up tho.

If you don't buy my games, I'm not buying your stupid Dreamcast.

It did get hard, but not too hard. It was easier (for me at least) than Gran Turismo 3 and Ridge Racer PSP.

The N64 was a wonderful system. Mario 64, GoldenEye, Perfect Dark, both Zeldas, Banjo, Conker, nearly everything made by Nintendo and Rare that generation was classic. I did say NEARLY everything, because I don't consider Yoshi's Story and such to be classic.. but it was still pretty fun.. :lol

Goldeneye was fun, as was Star Fox 64 multiplayer when you can kill someone in an Arwing when you are the character running around.

Cheers. :)

I loved the N64. It used cartridges, but I didn't care. There were delays, but when the games were released, they were top-notch, and Nintendo and Rare (in its prime) delivered gems that could be played for months. Plus it was the superior multiplayer system with 4 controller ports. Mario 64, Mario Kart, GoldenEye (my first FPS), The N64 Zeldas, Banjo-Kazooie, Conker...

But now that I think of it, you probably wouldn't like it if you hated Nintendo and Rare (since 85% of the good games were theirs). I didn't, thankfully.

Quick Question, did anyone ever finsh Mace: The Darkage?

The game is really impossible for me, i might buy it and try again, but when i did play it, it was hard.
I'm pretty sure I beat it with a few of the people but it was a rental 7-8 years ago so I don't remember a damn thing about it. Just that one fatality where the guy skewers you all the way through :lol

I was a PC zealot when the N64 came out, but I really expected it to do better. I had no love for any console, but it was Nintendo.

The first time I spent any time with the N64, it was with Turok, and I was really impressed. FPS's were nearly my world in those days and It had some real immersion going on.

I didn't pick up a N64 until a few years back, used from a friend. I immedietly picked up a RAM Pak and F-Zero and Perfect Dark. Gave PD a shot, appreciated some of what it did but ultimately I felt it was lacking. Never liked Goldeneye either (PC zealot).

The most fun I've had on my N64 would have to be with Doom64, which is still an interesting and playable game.

Also, no matter what I try, I just can't stand that controller. It's my least favorite ever.

My favorite N64 games:

San Francisco RUSH (played for hundreds of hours)
San Francisco RUSH 2049 (Dreamcast better, but N64 still very good)
Pilotwings (this has UNBELIEVABLE LOD technology and looks like a SGI demo and is fun to explore)

Note that RUSH 2 was crap.

some of my faves,

World Driver Championship looked absolutely stunning in places. The cars were fucnky to turn but you got used to it. Amazing game from Boss Studios. There were so many incidental things going on (like that airport level!).

Turok Dinosaur hunter was so sweet for a launch game. It had so much atmosphere that you felt tense while playing. The game was too fuckin big though. :lol

Mario Kart 64, was a awesome imo. I loved the character design. Nintendo went for a more "CG-ish" look to the actual characters. Aside from that i loved the fact the emphasized the 3-point skidding system with the coloured smoke. Nowadays they avoid it like a red-headed stepchild. no reference to woody allen's kid intended. :)

Legend of Zelda: TOoT
The game was magical. MAGICAL. I dunno what nintendo did but i don't think they've been able to do it since. Like Michael Jackson's Thriller, i doubt they'll hit that nail again. From the openingvillage to growing up within the game and saving the world, horseback riding... EVERYTHING. Amazing.

Excitebike 64, I loved LeftField if only for this offering. This is still by far the best dirtbike game in existance. The controls are tight. The visuals were always muggy but the controls were so tight you coud ignore the base colours and cheesy announcer. So many short cuts, and the sense of speed and jumps was amazing for me while playing. I suggest everyone to try this.

i also loved: 1080, F-Zero, Pilot Wings, StarWars: Rogue Squadren, Kobe bryant NBA Courtside, Body Harvest, Silicon Valley, Perfect Dark, ISS, Golden Eye (i remember buying every mag with screen shots of this in anticipation of it's release... didn't help that it kept getting DELAYED!!! same old rare....)

I'm honestly surprised by the number of people showing a liking for World Driver Championship (I only knew a few people that liked that game). I owned that game and I enjoyed it immensely (I got lucky and actually got the whole team that designed the game to sign a poster that I now hang in my room - I should take a pic of it and upload it). The graphics, the cars, controls...everything was just fantastic :D

Yeah Turok was something else on the N64. I was shocked when a friend called me up and asked if I had picked it up,I didn't know it had been released. I rented it at Block Buster the next day and was shell shocked by the game and its amosphere. So much so that I drove to a Toys R Us that very evening before closing and payed an ungodly amount for the game,an amount I'm ashamed to even speak about online.:lol

But the game really was amazing and kept me glued to the N64 for months and months. Its sad that Akklaim let the series turn into complete shit. But even now I sometimes go back and play the game because its still fun. Turok 2 was awesome too,the games frame rate was the center of many bitchfests online but it never really bothered me,hell half the games on the system always had low frame rates anyways.:) What did bother me though were the inbetween save areas, because playing for 2-3 hours before finding another save point was ridiculous.

I have about 44 N64 games currently. A few belong to my sister, a couple belong to my dad, but most are mine. I bought about 8 games in the last year or so for it... Still looking for three more.

For a system with under 200 games it sure had a kickass library. Classic games and good ones that have gained cult status.

Kind of like Dreamcast.

Only drawn out over a much MUCH longer period of time.

Gaime Guy-use your imagination dude.:b Whats the highest you've ever seen an N64 game selling for in your mall or Toy R Us?:)

It was one of those great gaming moments where you remember how the whole thing transpired and it lives on in your memory backed by a devious smile. I don't think I'd ever pay that much for a game ever again. To be honest though-the magic isn't quite there as it use to be for me so that plays a part in what I'd pay for a game nowdays. I'm one serious cheap bastard when it comes to new or console games nowdays. Maybe I'm evening out the times I spent on gaming like a loon, heh.

Personally, I've always been a much bigger fan of the PS and Saturn. The only N64 games I could get into were Sin and Punishment and Mischief Makers. Smash Bros was good for the time but it's been eclipsed every way by the sequel, now going back to the original is painful.

one of my favs and most underrated titles:

Space station silicon valley

think pikmin
Silicon Valley is NOTHING like pikmin. Wtf did you get that comparison from? :lol

I didn't know there was a Fighters Destiny 2! I actually quite enjoyed the first game. Always thought the chick with the blue hair kinda looked like Rei from Evangelion.

Anyway, one of my favorite (underrated) games for the N64 is Body Harvest. Took forever coming out (it was actually dropped by Nintendo and picked up by Midway at the last moment if my memory serves me) but it was a pretty great game. It was developed by DMA Designs (now Rockstar North), and you can really see the roots of a 3D GTA in that game. Play it if you get the chance.

well, you need to get differents animals with diferents skills to accomplish a mission or to reach certain places (like the pikmins) so its something like that... just open your mind :D

The only N64 games that matter:

Super Mario 64
Wave Race 64
OoT
Majora's Mask
Blast Corps

+
Goldeneye
Perfect Dark
Smash Bros.
WWF No Mercy

Thats more like it

Bomberman 64 was a really fun game. I'm just finding out now that it was panned by critics everywhere.

And Jet Force Gemini. Holy shit that game rocked the cazbah. Hated the collectathon, but LOVED the bossfights.

Mario 64 was one of the most magical games ever created. Still better than almost every 3d platformer ever made. Mario Kart 64 remains my favorite in the series, great level designs. World Driver Championship may be the best looking game on the N64. It was one of the few games that literally made my jaw drop in amazement, gameplay was solid too. Bast Corpes.... countless hours I spent playing this bizzare but addicting game. Banjo-Kazooie is one of the only 3D platformers I consider in Mario 64s league, it's a shame I never tried the sequel.

I only owned seven N64 games, but I remember having a blast with the system. I only remember putting a great deal of time(as in 30+ hours) into three games: Diddy Kong Racing, WCW/NWO Revenge, and Donkey Kong 64.

Oh, and Penny Racers is still my favourite rental experience ever.

AniHawk, close. Take 4 bucks off and you have your answer. Now let me go bury my head in a sand box:(

Hey atleast the game gave me many hours of fun so i guess it can't be all bad.

Good call on Jetforce Gemini, that game was crazy, I loved the size of the worlds and the gory shooting action was great. I never came close to beating it though,it was way overwhelming for me. I mean rescueing those little carebears guys around those gigantic stages was quite a task, stll it was very fun. I remember paying full price for the game then seeing it drop is price in my area. I never felt gipped though,I loved this game a whole lot.

For me this would also be Rare's best moment visually on the N64 hardware, and the music wasn't bad either.

That's really all that matters: getting your money's worth. I paid full price on many N64 games and felt like I got my money's worth.

AniHawk-yeah you know the way it works.:) Paying alot for a game is an afterthought, you just want that *high* that you get from enjoying it.

I think the biggest reason I don't enjoy games the way that I use to is because back in the 90's I focused my play time between the Saturn and N64 alot. Both those systems you had to wait months for the great games to arrive. That left you alot of time to play their games to their fullest and not be stuck with a wild backlog likewe have today.

Thats the one thing that ruins my enjoyment today,I never finish my games because I have this huge backlog that I play through,as if its some dinner buffet,it doesn't work in the enjoyment factor for me.

good calla on jwt force gemini, starfox 64 (incredible "dog" fights!), no mercy and blast corps.

this is making me teary-eyed. :')

Yeah this whole discussion makes me want to devote a whole weekend to nothing but N64.
I could definitely jump back into JFG, Pilot Wings, and Doom 64 again.
