Hello,

We would like to apologize to you and to those who frequent the suicidegirls.com website for inadvertently contacting you about a fan posting on the website.

We know that many of our fans are old enough to make their own choice about what they want to view on the Internet. We value the support of our fans and we respect their decisions. The letter was sent as part of an ongoing Nintendo program to aggressively protect our younger consumers from the hundreds of sexually-explicit sites each year that use Nintendo properties to attract children. We are proud of our efforts in this area. Unfortunately, the site posting identified in our letter was targeted by mistake.

As a gesture of goodwill, we would like to offer you (and RuneLateralus) a free Nintendo video game system and game of your choice. (...)

In addition, we would appreciate it if you could provide us with contact information for RuneLateralus, or have him contact us directly, so that we may apologize to him. We would be glad to send him a game and system of his choice through you as well, since we do not have his contact information.

Sincerely,
Christie Hamilton
Nintendo of America Inc.

props for damage control? lol.

Damage control? They made a mistake and are owning up to it. It's sad that an admission of bad judgement is now considered to be a spin tatic.

Now we see where efralope gets the 3 dots at the end of every post from, Nintendo does it too :)

Not bitter, just unsweetened
for people who don't want to click the links :

I got this email this morning from the law firm that represent Nintendo. They are claiming that the member RuneLateralus listing Zelda and Metorid as his favortie video games in his profile is an infringement on Nintendo's intellectual property. I enjoy an ice cold coca cola on a hot day. Do you think Coca Cola is going to sue me for posting that?

i wasn't following this seriously, and i thought it was a hoax. The offer of free Nintendo stuff is quite nice, but it's sad that Nintendo would even go this far in the first place.

The black man everyone at Activision can agree on
You know they are gonna count that free system/game against their userbase and sold #'s right? ;)

haha no, that was added in to what he quoted from the guy who originally posted the email.. because he was surprised at the "were gonna give you all free stuff now!" part.

Nice, I'm sure they did a google search for "Mario" and "Titties" and sent letters to all the pages that came up.

I think it's awesome Nintendo even has programs like these. It's like the candy vendor tracking down pedophiles that use thier goods to lure unsuspecting victims into their windowless vans. :thumbsup to Ninty, for both having this program, and owning up to a silly mistake.

To be fair, Nintendo didn't exactly. They're cleaning up after their overzealous law firm.

Which explains why it was so hard to find Peach hentai for the fake DS ads thread.

This is a happy ending. It was pretty clear from the original email that the C&D was generated by a spider that simply matches up metatags. I expected Nintendo to withdraw the threat, but they are going a step further.

Haha, now Nintendo is coming up with frivilous lawsuits just to give out systems in hopes of clearing inventory.

Exactly. No matter what Nintendo does, people will find something to bitch and moan about.

I agree with those who said it's cool they have a program like this at all and it's great that they owned up to a mistake made by the program.

The fact is apologizing after doing something stupid (or having a law firm representing you do something stupid) is still worse than not doing the stupid act in the first place. Companies should be expected to give a response like this, not praised for it.

Companies should be expected to personally apologize & give out free stuff? Why, is that what usually happnes?

So... should we praise Nintendo for their generosity? They went above in beyond in their response, no?

Not ONLY that, they didn't even try to blame their law firm, they took full responsibility.

For a large corporation, ethics of this nature are unheard of. This is certainly a departure of the Nintendo of the early 90s.

Give away free stuff, no. But the apology is expected.

So your point is? you are countering your own argument, it´s no so normal a company offer free significant stuff for a mistake like this.

And all those one that a big company shouldn´t commit this mistakes, let me say something: HA!, I have seen much worse mistakes and they didn´t finished with an apology and free stuff, but with a judgment.

Kudos to Nintendo.

But my band played the wrong song... it was live TV, I didn't know what to do!

Her drummer didn't start (fake) singing the wrong song though... where did the C&D come from exactly?

I had acide REFUX, but it went away in time for me to yell at the audience at the end of the show!

Just do a little ho-down.

So are there actual porn sites that try and get hits from planting Nintendo related keywords in their page? Are kids accidentally finding PokePorn?

Now if we could get the government (GWB) to own up to their mistakes and start handing out free shit we'd all be in better shape.

Surprising, but nice to hear.

edit: Just did a google image search to see if there were any N-Porn sites, and it's remarkably clean. Amazing.
