WHat makes you think this has anything to do with online play?

Nintendo's next generation console (codenamed "Revolution") will feature an advanced wireless platform that integrates multiple technologies to enable a new and exciting gaming experience.

Having wireless internet gameplay is hardley a "new and exciting gaming experience". Its just a convienince. I'm thinking this has much to do with the implementation of NR's¹ "gimmick".
