Nintendo Downloads - October 2014

We were just as surprised as anyone and noted only a small population owned the basic model.

Just curious, did you actually call out their thinking during the interview, or just make a note of it after speaking to them. I'm curious what they would have said, is all.

Yeah I think some 10% chose the 8GB SKU when Wii U launched, and that has to be even smaller now that it's basically phased out. Still, I'm sure many of the ones who went with it knew they'd be picking up a hard drive too or already had an extra one laying around. So catering to such a small segment of the audience (who probably won't download games at all anyway) seems bizarre.

If this game is delayed on Wii U but not other platforms, I see them sacrificing a ton of sales for the silliest of reasons.

Speaking of Shantae I was hoping they'd release a Wii U port of Risky's Revenge before Pirate's Curse to be honest, they did release a director's cut of that recently

I guess there's not much point to it though
I asked WayForward about a re-release on 3DS with the potential for a discount, seeing as the DSi version is forever stuck at £10. Got no reply.

Nothing for me this weeks, but im not mad - next week is SMT4 week

Well, the first is not really a copy of the first Country, it's a unique title.
The second is definitely a port.
The third is based on Country 3, but is still different enough to be a separate game.

I thought Land 2 had different stages, just all named the same as the SNES one.

The Euro PR even mentions that it has all new levels.

Speaking of which, why are we not posting the FULL PR that solves this issue?

Nintendo eShop (Wii U)

Bayonetta 2 (Nintendo, available October 24) - €49.99/£39.99 (Buy Bayonetta 2 for just €29.99/£24.99 if you have downloaded Bayonetta)
A few months after the events of Bayonetta... Something strange is happening. Angels suddenly appear on the streets and begin to attack. Bayonetta uses her powers and fights back, summoning the demon Gomorrah, but it turns against her. Jeanne dives in to save Bayonetta, taking a fatal blow in the process, and is dragged down to Inferno. With only a short time to save Jeanne's soul, Bayonetta heads for Fimbulventr: a legendary mountain said to house a gateway to the underworld. What lies ahead for Bayonetta?

Bayonetta (Nintendo, available October 24) - €29.99/£24.99 (Buy Bayonetta for just €9.99/£9.99 if you have downloaded Bayonetta 2)
Originally released in 2010, the unforgettable first chapter of the Bayonetta saga introduced the world to "climax action", an explosive blend of dynamic action and saucy style. Armed with a gun in each hand and one on each foot, Bayonetta destroys her opponents with combo attacks that are as beautiful as they are brutal. Dodge enemy attacks with perfect timing to activate Witch Time, leaving your slowed-down opponents defenceless against your barrage of kicks, blows and bullets, then finish them off with a devastating Torture Attack. No angel will stand in Bayonetta's way.

The levels being "all new" is.. well I suppose technically they are. Like a ROM hack that's moved things around but not really changed the theme, enemies etc of the level.

Thanks a lot for the info guys, I think I'll just end up getting all three :)

Still haven't played DKCR:3D yet so I think it'll be cool to blast through these as a warm up to finally playing it.

First truly cross-buy?

Did Bayonetta 1 really have to be £25? I think £20 is a more appealing here (you don't get a discount if your copy of 2 is a disc game, I can see solos bombing but if you want 1 that extra £5 might make you better off finding disc special edition)

I asked WayForward about a re-release on 3DS with the potential for a discount, seeing as the DSi version is forever stuck at £10. Got no reply.
Now heres the strange thing. Game & Watch DK junior went on sale in North America during the Smash Bros Character sales. That is the only time a piece of DSiWare has ever gone on sale.

First truly cross-buy?
I get it. Firmware 9.x must have made it possible to do conditional* sales on the 3DS. I should have figured this out last week as the DKC Returns discount were just that.

*-Conditional as in own x to get discount on y. Since it using purchase history it doesn't matter if it is 3DS or Wii U, in your purchase history all the same.

Dat Nintendo™ tax. In effect, it's maximising the profit from late adopters when Bayonetta 1+2 physical edition becomes hard to find, because it's a better deal to buy them both physically, but if you can't get it physically for less than the digital price, you might as well get it digitally (assuming you have the external hard-drive for it)

Shame but yeah I'm not expecting either of those to happen.

I was saying Wii U because the game is completely unavailable on the system which is gonna be weird once Pirate and Genie are out imo, but a 3DS port would be appreciated too. As good as it is it's way too pricey right now plus I'd love to see the game in 3D.

But hey maybe it's better this way with Pirate's Curse taking as long as it has. >>

I have the Genesis game in my collection. Just need the Dreamcast version, and will be buying the Wii U version too.

Also need Master, Saturn, Gamegear, SG-1000 II ports too

I'm still kicking myself for not picking up the Genesis version when it came out.
Didn't really have the money at the time, and figured I would get it later.
=(

I still want SNES Tetris Attack though.

Same here. I really like the Japanese version of that game which is called Panel de Pon. Nintendo was able to release the Game Boy version of Tetris on the 3DS, so I guess it should be possible to release Tetris Attack as well...

Willing to write up some impressions? Or maybe someone else will?

I am on the fence too.

The game is short and I would say eerie, but scary is not the word I'd go for. It's almost more Silent Hill-ish psychological stuff. If you played Shattered Memories, it's much closer to that than an early Resident Evil game. I don't think I came across one jump scare.

I beat the game with a logged playthrough of three hours, nine minutes. I played on expert, which the game doesn't really explain very well -- basically you don't get regular access to the map. Not sure what else is different. I got the middle ending of the five different endings. The game makes it plain to you that there are five endings and which you got, but not whether it's a good ending or really how you got it. Much of the replayability comes from getting the different endings, which are largely dependent on your mental state when you beat the game. The game itself really only hints at this and it's not always obvious from what's going on in the game what improves your mental health and what doesn't.

The game gave me the vevuzela crash twice during a relatively short run and as I said it only supports the GamePad, so a patch is certainly needed here. The GamePad screen does nothing but mirror exactly what's on the TV.

If you're OK with paying $12 for a pretty short game that doesn't lay out all the answers for you, I say go for it. If you're hankering for a 16-bit Silent Hill, jump in. If you want a creepy indie for Halloween that's more about presentation than gameplay and don't mind splashing the cash, give it a look. Otherwise it's good but kind of a hard recommend at the price, especially if you're like me and got it during that Humble Bundle a while back but kinda forgot that you had it on Steam.
