Nintendo DS Conference

This is fucking insane... I simply can't keep track of everything DS related. Can someone please create a thread that has all the announced games with associated pics please?

Lindsay is the new DopeyFish, that's some crazy spin going on there...

Anyway, Castlevania (or Metroidvania as some say) is awesome. If anybody out there honestly believes that the 3D versions are better, you should have your gaming priviledges removed from you. The bosses, the weapons, the enemies, and the design is just awesome. I stayed up WAY too late last night with Dawn of Sorrow.

Super Princes Peach seems so weird and so cool at the same time. I wonder what feminists would think of this game?

Just imagine the damage nintendo would do to Sonys Psp if they released Both Brain Training game with a New color Ds in a bundle of some sort. And remeber, two new brain training games are coming out in japan in december. It going to be like Easter all over again :lol

4? is there a good (or even a bad) reason they aren't coming over here?

None that I know of... Which is a shame, because they're VASTLY better than the usual lineup of THQ developed Nicktoons games and other kids games for GBA...

Nintendogs - Non-game
Advance Wars - A good'un.
Lost in Blue - mediocre
Castlevania - Metroidvania
Trauma Center - ? Could be good.. or end up mediocre like LiB & TM and everything else I was looking forward to.
Trace Memory - mediocre
Ultimate Spider-Man - no interest

And in the next TWO months:

Phoenix Wright - bargain bin it.
Metroid Prime Pinball - you'd think people would've learned after Mario Pinball..
Mario Kart DS - got the defintive Mario Kart on GBA
Mario & Luigi 2 - no interest
Viewtiful Joe - could be good~or cramped
Animal Crossing - got definative version on GC, still play daily
Mega Man BN5 - GBA rehash time!
Guilty Gear - GGX2 is enough for me this gen
Sims 2 - :lol
Dig Dug - could be good or a bastardization of a classic. needs more info
Ultimate Card Games - no interest
Bust-A-Move - rehash to the extreme
Crash Racing - ...
Snowboard Kids - no interest
Tony Hawk - Sk8land was it? Not wasteland? Easy. Free. Safe.
Black & White - looked foward to it on the DC..it never came... years later on an inferior system why would I want it?
Electroplankton - Non-game
Burnout Legends - no need for another racing game

Normally I like ta be positive and all that but enoughs enough. 10 months and a million promised games later and NOA is screwing me out of the good DS colors and more importantly the games still aren't here. I'm tired of stuff being on the horizon. -_-;; I figured I'd have like around 6 DS games stockpiled by the time I got one by the holiday season. Instead I've got 3 and one is an "eh may as well give it a try" purchase (Kirbyyyyy).

Also you left out Sonic Rush. You evil evil man.

Quit gaming

Nintendo now needs to work with Western devs moreso. They've got the Japanese situation down pretty good now, in some cases their relationships with some Japanese devs are even better than the SNES/SFami era (Namco for instance).

Where's Starcraft DS for instance? That should be a no-brainer, especailly since Nintendo and Blizzard worked together on Starcraft 64.

blah blah blah, just sell your DS if you are so offended by it.

By the way, I just thought I'd mention again that there will never be a GBA sucessor.....

I keep saying it, but maybe some people will believe me now.

DS successor on the other hand is a sure thing.

I'm pretty sure there will be a full fledged Game Boy successor comparable to the PSP at some point in the future.

"Game Boy" is still the biggest portable brand in North America and Europe, somehow I doubt the GB Micro is the end of the line even if DS becomes very successful.

Some interesting games.

Does this game come to US? It's like pirates only you play the role of a noble sailor and you can develop your character any way you'd like, and not just into pirates. Roughly translates into the Age of Sail.

Koei is going all out on the DS and Koei has traditionally been very conservative when it supports a paltform, it usually only supports the stronger platform. The amount of games they are throwing at the DS, including franchises that haven't been on a Nintendo console since the SuperFami is pretty staggering. Not shown in the watchimpress screens was 信長の野望 or Nobunaga's Ambition.

Edit: fixed pictures.

oh I just noticed this.

ds_scr33.jpg

Bottom screen has clearly what looks to be a cursor/pointer. It is the purple triangle right below the rightmost icon. Mouse-style controls on DS touchscreen would make menu-selection on KOEI's strategy games a breeze. Nothing revolutionary as they had had mouse controls for their PC ports for ages, but this is new in the non PC area for them and could make the games much more playable as opposed to using a D-pad for menu selection.

I don't think that is a pointer. If you form a box around the icon using the edges of the screen and the corner of the "pointer" to define it, you'll find similar looking purple triangles at each corner.

It's just an indication that the focus is currently on that icon.

Oh you're right. I just noticed that. good catch. Well, I do hope navigating the menus will be easier with a touchscreen by simply reaching out and selecting the option we want instead of cycling through the menu with a d-pad system.

Why would anyone say "Metroidvania" is a bad thing? All the "Metroidvania" games are leagues ahead of most games released these days, let alone games on the GBA.

I think the DS is great because, aside from stupid awful Pac-Pix, Egg Monster Hero and Lunar Dragon Song, mostly everything I had an interest in has ended up being amazing. Ouendan, Meteos, Kirby, Yomigaeru Gyakuten, Jump Superstars and Castlevania DS have all been absolutely amazing, and they're all up there with RE4 and Mercenaries as the best games I've played this year.

Most notably JSS and Ouendan, though. While I liked Guitarooman, I thought it had a lot of problems, mostly that it was completely based on memorization at higher levels of play. Then Ouendan comes out, and not only does it use the touch screen in an interesting way and validates the purpose of it being there in the first place, it's also absolutely brilliant in the way songs are designed. The Ouendan versions of Over the Distance totally eclipses the original, if only because of the DOOT DOOT DOOT DOOT DOOTs.

Jump Superstars is another beast entirely. I would have been content with just a Smash Brothers-ish party fighter, but Ganbarion went above and beyond me expectations for the game. Not only are there combos that aren't just "AAAAAAAA," there are chains that involve timing, and intricate combos using Support Koma that make the game legitamately playable. And, outside of a few absolutely awful characters, most of the cast is playable, even at higher levels of play. I thought it'd be a while for any anime-based fighter to be better than the Naruto Gekitousen games, but JSS is sooo much better as a competitive game.
