Nintendo DS - RIP in Europe

Now, I don't want to appear to be a Nintendo zealot fanboy... but isn't just a tad premature to say "DS RIP" when the PSP hasn't even shipped yet in Europe?

You`re not in Europe are you ? If you were you`d understand.

The sad thing is, while it's pretty clear to us what NoE could've done to make the DS a success, some CEO is at his desk shaking his head, and wondering what on Earth they did wrong.

Nintendo should probably just hold off releasing Meteos, Advance Wars, Nintendogs, Kirby, and all the other outstanding games on the DS untill a couple of months after the PSP craze dies out over there (like it did here). They have all these system seller games, but no one will even be paying attention when they come out, so why bother?

Sorry Euro DS owners, nothing against you.

DS IS TEH D00MED CUZ PSP IS COMING OUT.

You mean like how PSP killed DS in America? Or how PSP crushed DS in Japan?

DS will survive and PSP will not kill it, although selling better is a good chance. PS2 selling shitloads more than GC and Xbox didn't kill them.

Both handhelds will survive. End of story.

I hope both handhelds dies miserable deaths. For screwing us europeans over.
Too right. One neglects and the other threatens legal action.
Still can't believe that after all the petty and aggressive behavior on Sony's part, EU's are still flocking to the overpriced little gizmo. Guess it's better to be pushed around than ignored.

Where do you live? Here in Spain there's a PSP comercial every 20 minutes on TV, all the walls are plenty of PSPs, all the stores are full of bigger and bigger psp banners and today I've seen people buying psp cases even before of the launch date!!

Besides, even my father knows about psp. Man, PSP is EVERYWHERE in Spain, everybody knows about its existence.

Well the PSP is after been called "the greatest gadaget of all time" on Sky News and they will proably continue to pimp the shit out of it all day!!

The station is watched by almost EVERYONE in europe at some time during the day... 1billion at lauch!!!!!!

^_^

Well now Sky News indirectly called it "Jack off all trades, master of none" :lol

I won't be getting the PSP tomorrow anyway..

....I imported it last march.

In the case of the PSP I'm personally writing off the launch as being unimportant. Did I buy one at launch due to hype you may ask?

You bet!

Am I happy about it?

Nope.

I don't even own any games for it now. I sold them all on ebay for close to what I bought them for. Waiting for Legend of Heroes and Popolocrois. There's still PS2 games and some DS games that are going to win my money this season.

While I don't care what console sells more than the other, I just want them both to be healthy enough that developers and publishers have incentive to create orignal titles. Or just having a popular enough console that even publishing some of the more niche content will always be worth it.

Sony and Nintendo had better step up. If MS really ships the 360 this holiday ww, and have all their big guns ready for europe as well, they have just tought the world that shiping ww without a fucking year wait CAN BE DONE. The PSP is 10 months after Japan. Nintendo software has ALWAYS come 6 months to a year later than in Japan, and several months after the US as well.

This shit has to end.

If MS can pull it off, maybe this will finally force Nintendo and Sony to stop fucking the fans in the UK, and the rest of Europe. cheers!

I don't own a PSP or DS and feel that at this point in time, both are a waste of money and were rushed to market. I can wait for another year or so until I see software that entices me to buy them both.

the problem with europe is localization....just stick to goddamn english and watch as your games start arriving sooner
That's an interesting idea.
Would releasing the games only in english benefit the sales of the titles?

where u live? on a remote island on norway? cause here in germany i can see psp adverts everywhere

The shop next to my work sold 30 PSP in preorders and ZERO GAMES!!! That's right ZERO GAMES... but in the other hand they sold plenty of new memory sticks. But who can blame them, games cost more than 50 Euros and some games like Spider Man and Tony Hawk Underground 2 cost 65 Euros.

Yup PSP will have DS on it's knees only matter of days selling more then 1.5 milj that the DS has sold... :lol NOT

Btw I feel the 250 euro is a bit expensive, the economics aren't that good here in the EU for people to spend that much money on a portable. My bet is the Hardcores get it now and then lower sales.

You seems to forget that the psp will sells at a ridiculous price tag of 250 euros and about 50 euros per game.
This is a serious calm down :P

NCL should cut NOA and NOE loose. I am sure they both can do a better job without some without a foreign puppeteer.

now that statement doesn't make any sense either :/

You don't live in Europe, do you? If you did you would NEVER compare the two.

I almost always import games from America, but latley some DS games has even came out here before usa. NoE is bad, but they are a little better than say like 4 years ago.

didn't nintendo just announce they were bringing electroplankton, band brothers, brain training and some others to Europe?

I still haven't seen one PSP advert anywhere (I'm in Brighton, UK), not in a newspaper, magazine, TV adbreak or bus stop. The only vague awareness I have of the PSP is when I walk to work and I see an A4 sheet of paper in the window of a mobile-phone shop, they're still selling JPN PSPs for ÂŁ200... they better drop that price soon ;)

Although on the other hand, I'm never really looking for adverts since I import everything anyway.

Advance Wars is out this week. Nintendogs is out this month, as is Kirby. Meteos ain't far off, though sadly Pheonix Wright is waaaaaaaaaaay off. Nintendo dumb for taking long on that one. Fuck the french and italians. It has English text, so release an English version then do a Euro version later.

Vive la English language!

I haven't seen any TV ads (or any Sony produced ad) for PSP here in Aus, but its featured prominently in pamphlets and in-store advertising, all the same "pre-order or miss out!" stuff. I'm very curious to see how it does, since no one seems to be talking about/anticpating it.

Why is it that when a 3rd party game on a Nintendo machine is late coming to Europe it's always Nintendo blamed?

Phoenix Wright has nothing to do with Nintendo.

Germany..., there is NOTHING for PSP. Of course there are demo units in stores(errr..., ONE in the next Media Markt[biggest electronic, gaming etc. store company in Germany]), but nothing else(really NOTHING :) ).

Yesterday I had a short "discussion" about handhelds and consoles, sth. like "hey what's on the horizon in terms of new consoles and handhelds?" All the three heard about the Xbox360(but two of them probably only cause they have read about the deal between Infineon and Microsoft :lol ), nobody of them heard of the Core Pack(and as I explained it to them they all said "Bullshit" ;) ) and ONE of them heard about PSP - but only cause I have told him earlier that handhelds like DS and PSP exist.

Fixed for truth.

I personally don't mind about translations, but I can tell you for sure if companies began to release untranslated games over here, they'd be in trouble.

..., yeah, you'are right, PSP IS EVERYWHERE HERE! A Sonyman just knocked on my door and asked me if I already preordered a PSP... :lol

Believe it or not, there isn't any hype here in Germany(or atleast where I live).

I don't get all the Nintendo Europe hate. I understand it's annoying to get games later than other people, but mostly, it's exaggerated by the existance of the internet. It's the same way it has been done since forever, and it only seems wrose by the fact that news, and opinions is out the day the game comes out in Japan (or even before).

I just don't see Nintendo of Europe sitting on a huge inventory of games, just for the sake of disappointing the customers.

If Nintendogs is due in October, and Advance Wars in September for Europe, it seems to me that Nintendo distribution is just trying to even out amongst the locations (We get Nintendogs in September, and Advance Wars in October).

Given, they may juggle dates to time with holiday seasons, or to spread otu major titles, but that is just good business practice to maximise availabiltiy, sales, and demand.

Hey, don't get me wrong, I'm all for simultaneous or quick releases, and truth be told, I've got my own share of imprted games, but I think some people just need to be patient - or give up on the internet news. And yes, I would accuse nintendo of making several crimes in terms of PAL-region releases, but I don't see the DS schedule being one of them.
