RIP Albert Pennelo

What the fuck. Holy shit. I really liked Albert - great guy to work with, super nice in general. Dude loved cars - I had a lotta talks with him about stuff he was fixing up or what he had his sights on next. He was also clearly, clearly passionate about gaming. One of the best.

RIP, man. This really stings.

Edit: I'm processing this in real time, and... I'm really feeling this one. Setting aside my moronic forum shtick for a second; in an industry full of business people who don't seem to give a shit about games and tend to be clueless at the best of times, Albert was different, and somebody I genuinely respected. An absolute class act.

Oh no. Sad news. Thought the guy seemed decent and nice. I haven't followed what he's been doing since leaving Xbox. All the best to his loved ones.

Taken too soon. I had my issues with him as a Sony fanboy during the X1 days, but he was always very courteous to me and others in the PS5/XSX hardware speculation threads. Very open and a genuinely nice person to interact with on forums, so much so that I felt stupid for disliking him back in the day.

Life is short. Hope his family finds the strength to deal with this loss. Xbox lost a great fan today.

Fuck cancer.
I don't mean any disrespect but am I supposed to know who this is?

"People DO understand that Microsoft has some of the smartest graphics programmers IN THE WORLD. We CREATED DirectX, the standard APIs that everyone programs against. So while people laude Sony for their HW skills, do you really think we dont know how to build a system optimized for maximizing graphics for programmers? Seriously? There is no way were giving up a 30%+ advantage to Sony. And ANYONE who has seen both systems running could say there are great looking games on both systems. If there was really huge performance difference it would be obvious.

I get a ton of hate for saying this but its been the same EVERY generation. Sony claims more power, they did it with Cell, they did it with Emotion Engine, and they are doing it again. And, in the end, games on our system looked the same or better.

Im not saying they havent built a good system Im merely saying that anyone who wants to die on their sword over this 30%+ power advantage are going to be fighting an uphill battle over the next 10 years"

We have more memory bandwidth. 176gb/sec is peak on paper for GDDR5. Our peak on paper is 272gb/sec. (68gb/sec DDR3 + 204gb/sec on ESRAM). ESRAM can do read/write cycles simultaneously so I see this number mis-quoted.

ESRAM on the Xbox One is a POOR PATCH for the fact that they use DDR3 for "TV tvtv sports," but this guy came here to lie that it was a "victory," that it was an "advantage."

The Xbox One X copies the PS4's architecture, without ESRAM and with GDDR5...

But he still came here to lie that ESRAM was an advantage of the Xbox One over the PS4.

I haven't heard this name in a while. RIP.

in reality it was more like a 40%-50% advantage lol

He was the head Product Manager with Xbox for a bunch of years. He left a while back to join Amazon. He was somewhat public facing and always seemed like a good dude from what I remember.
Former Xbox employee that used to post here. A Albert Penello

One of the more likeable figures in the Xbox Space back in the day.

He actually used to post here if my memory is correct

He was their marketing guy from the beginning.
Thanks guys.

I looked up a picture and he looks familiar. The name just didn't ring any bells. I "know" most of the early Xbox people but he escaped me.

Yikes.
That's definitely post-360 Microsoft speak right there.
