Nintendo DS Submarine Demo

With E3 and Japanese DS demos being released on the internet (see here) I have finally had the chance to play the Submarine Demo that intregued me when the first DS games were shown.

It's awesome. I don't know why there is very little talk about it. This game has probably one of the most unique uses of the DS interface I've seen, and I think it has tons of potential. The bottom screen has all the controls for your sub and it has a Steel Battalion feel of complexity. Also the mood is really good. Dark and quiet, like what you would expect from a sub game deep underwater, and the warnings from the crew are really good too.

I think Nintendo could make this out to be a really good full game. It could be mission based with attack missions and rescue missions and others. They should keep the dark setting and maybe set it during the cold war. The timer is ok, but I think if they had lots of enemies on screen it would be a good idea to ditch it, or keep it only for rescue missions. Another thing I thought about is that would be cool if there were missions that were extremely dark, and you had to use some sort of sonar button to illuminate the edges of the rock or something.

If this ever get's made It'll be an instant buy for me. I'll be watching release lists anxiously. Does anyone else find this demo as fun as I do?

I have the submarine demo , I've played it a couple of times but it isn't appealing to me. I don't really understand what I'm supposed to do except from changing the angle and going up and down in the under-water caves. I can fire missiles, but at what?

when the DS was unvieled, THIS was the piece of software that convinced me that the Stylus and dual screens would actually enhance gameplay...it's been so long that I can't remember how it plays, though...and I have no way of putting the file on my DS :(

The Submarine demo is still one of the most difficult games for the DS, heh. I love it -- everything from the Can-ripoff title screen music to the vocal samples to the still-impressive graphics. The chances of them turning it into a game are close to nil... this is Nintendo, after all. Too bad it wasn't a Namco demo; I'd already own the finished, short-but-awesome game :P

My favorite moment in the demo so far happened when I finally succeeded at sinking the enemy sub -- but I was still trying to run under it like I was doing when I was missing it. It sunk on top of me, crushing me to the bottom of the ocean. Sure, I died, but cripes was it a cool way to go.

Would so make a great game on it's own.

- Voice commands to your crew "Man the torpedoes!" etc. Stylus control for the control panel.
- 20 Single Player Missions including Rescue, Delivery and Destory.
- 5 Multiplayer Arenas for Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection internet play or Local Wireless play for up to 4 other subs.
- Online Co-Op missions?
- Endless mode - Fight off enemies in an endless hectic arena and put your hi score on the online leaderboard.
- Create a Sub - Use it in the single player or multiplayer modes. Collect parts earnt in the single player missions to use for your sub.
- Create an Arena - Use in the multiplayer modes.
- Create a Mission - For single or multiplayer.
- Stylus makes designing easy in the create modes.

Lots of potential.

I would call it -
Submarine : Depth Surge
Submarine : Deep Sea Missions
or NintenSub
