With E3 and Japanese DS demos being released on the internet (see here) I have finally had the chance to play the Submarine Demo that intregued me when the first DS games were shown.
It's awesome. I don't know why there is very little talk about it. This game has probably one of the most unique uses of the DS interface I've seen, and I think it has tons of potential. The bottom screen has all the controls for your sub and it has a Steel Battalion feel of complexity. Also the mood is really good. Dark and quiet, like what you would expect from a sub game deep underwater, and the warnings from the crew are really good too.
I think Nintendo could make this out to be a really good full game. It could be mission based with attack missions and rescue missions and others. They should keep the dark setting and maybe set it during the cold war. The timer is ok, but I think if they had lots of enemies on screen it would be a good idea to ditch it, or keep it only for rescue missions. Another thing I thought about is that would be cool if there were missions that were extremely dark, and you had to use some sort of sonar button to illuminate the edges of the rock or something.
If this ever get's made It'll be an instant buy for me. I'll be watching release lists anxiously. Does anyone else find this demo as fun as I do?
