Well, the 72nd Annual General Meeting of Shareholders is on the 28th of June. If they can't improve until then by sharing more/better information on the console etc., that's a meeting I wouldn't wanna attend.

Imagine being an investor, one of their more savvy ones. There'd be things at the conference that might have piqued your interest in terms of earning potential, like Nintendoland, but imagine watching that conference, seeing Iwata holding a bunch of fucking bananas, and then seeing shares drop on the widespread perception that the company ballsed up an easy and important opportunity... I definitely hope he and Reggie are having hell behind the scenes. Iwata seemed to be watching the trending response to everything they were unveiling... he can't be happy surely.

How likely is it that they simply didn't have much stuff to show? Things certainly seemed to be dragged out, and they talked for ages on such nonsense.
Thats the thing. I'd have thought Wii being fairly dead for the past 2 years would mean more Wii U projects but it seems as desolate as the 3DS. I'm sure someone will chime in with all the "just finished" projects I forgot...

Oh my it's looking real sexy in those hires press images :)
The specs sheet, is there anything new there? Seems updated since they state it can handle two GamePads at once.
It seems the same as the Japanese page Yesterday. Anyway what does it mean by:
Wii Compatibility: Nearly all Wii software and accessories can be used with Wii U.
Surly it isn't thinking of the few 576i only European games (to name a few Madworld, Mario Party 8, Little King's Story and Super Mario all stars...theres more than that) as the system does not list that resolution but rather games that use the Gamecube controller extensively...erm, the DDR games used that port, right? What did Family Fitness use?

Slept on it.

Slept for almost 14 hours after being awake for 27-28 hours.

Still think that was one huge fuck up of a conference.

Still not planning on WiiUing at launch.

Yeah, you can't really sleep on that. They had a whole year to prepare, commenting on how they know only hobby gamers buy the thing at launch (Reggie), how they've learned their lesson from 3DS (Which actually had a great fucking E3, 20 mins on the conference and I wanted it) and then they simply bring you literally nothing compared to last year. Except more non-gamer karaoke crap. E3 2011 was more exciting than this, if I think about it actually.

Can't believe some are already trying to make this look somewhat decent, it was like 2008 but infinitely worse, because we're talking about a new Nintendo home console here. Seeing how the other parts of E3 were equally uninteresting, I got nothing to look forward to. This E3 giving me meltdowns and it's nothing that I could just sleep over, lol :(

But hey, they might just got me to buy a 3DS, now that just keeps looking better and better. Revision today, please.

Best news I've heard since the press conference.

They said they "learned" from the 3DS debacle. I think it was clear they haven't. If they thought they did learn, then the higher-ups have absolutely no clue what the general gaming public wants to see any more.

Um... there is no 'general gaming public' anymore.

My issue with what Nintendo did at the conference was that I'm not sure it hit either the more traditional gaming audience or the more mainstream audience the Wii captured so successfully. That's the problem. Well that, and the whole EA/Activision thing.

Guys were there any comments regarding how the WiiU version of ACIII compares graphically to the other -console- versions? (from devs or journalists)

If I'm not mistaken there's a playable WiiU version running on the show floor, right?.

Edit: I'm talking texture res, AA, etc

edit: whoops, wrong thread! :O

edit: Thankfully, I was almost ready to post this. :D

I believe somebody somewhere said it was a direct port with no enhancements added (which is a shame for those who like effects, as even if the gpu had the same old poly count, there are a lot of extra lighting tricks that could be added in). Only game that we've heard that there'll be any advantage taken of higher graphical capability is Aliens: Colonial Marines.

That looks about the same as the others. I wouldn't expect much though, I played Brotherhood on PC and even on max settings the textures were very poor

Yeah. Don't let people con you into saying Darksiders is a Zelda clone. In many ways I find it more appealing than current Zelda. But the gameplay is not one of them. It's a hardcore action game at its heart. It may have Zelda similiarities, but Zelda is an action adventure game with light action. DS is hardcore action. If constantly getting locked into rooms and fighting for 5 minutes isn't your cup of tea, avoid.

Oh, and that Eurogamer quote is awesome. Best quote of E3.

Ok, now that I've slept on it, some thoughts on Wii U, software, etc. I apologize if some of this is repeating other posts I've made

-Pikmin 3. Looks nice. If I got a Wii U I would probably buy the game. It doesn't sound like it was a huge hit on the show floor. Nice launch game though.

-NSMB U. Sales wise I am sure this will do very well, especially in Japan. For me personally, I just..I don't know. I feel like I can basically play the same game on my Wii. Sure, the backgrounds look nicer and there are some changes here and there, but this really doesn't do it for me.

-Nintendoland. Hmm..I think this is a big miscalculation by Nintendo. This is not another Wii Sports. It might be a very nice piece of software, but this isn't going to do nearly what Wii Sports did in terms of capturing the casuals immediately. I also feel like the whole concept almost cheapens Nintendo's IP's in a way. I dunno.

-Wii Fit U. Maybe it will sell well, again especially in Japan. Again just seems rather uninspired.

- P-100. Wow. My initial impression was huge disappointment, but the gameplay videos really sold me. I'm skeptical this will receive any big push by Nintendo, but hopefully I am wrong.

-ZombiU. Huge surprise. Getting rave impressions from the journalists on the show floor. Still..still somewhat skeptical.

- General thought on 3rd parties- very underwhelming. Ubisoft is the clear standout. Assassins Creed 3, ZombiU and Rayman Legends are a lot better than anything else coming. EA being virtually absent is just..odd. Like I said in other posts, if there are no EA Sports titles at launch that portends very bad things for Nintendo in the West. Sports games are crucial to mainstream acceptance of a console and if Wii U is treated like a second class citizen like the Wii largely was, that is not good. Personally my biggest red flag from E3. I think Activision will be there, though it is disappointing that Black Ops 2 won't be at launch apparently.

- On a related note- who knows what is going on behind closed doors. Maybe Nintendo screwed up with dev kits and there will be a lot more coming next year. Or maybe 3rd parties are going to give Wii U less support than the Wii received. How 3rd parties transition to PS4/720 will be fascinating. Will they completely move over from PS360 right away, or could we see PS360/PS4/720 and Wii U versions all coming out? I am pretty pessimistic right now.

-Japanese 3rd parties. Iwata tweeted that 3rd party games will be shown later. Maybe next week? I know Nintendo is having a Japanese event next week, but it might just be showing off their first party stuff to the Japanese press. I still think Japan is where Nintendo has a shot at garnering impressive 3rd party support. They have to get Capcom and SE on board.

- On the conference itself, I just do not understand how they can keep fucking it up. Got off to a fine start, and then they demoed a 6 month old game for 10 minutes. No mention of Rayman which is apparently some sort of exclusive. No mention of P-100. I even understand the emphasis on Nintendoland as it is their Wii Sports attempt and they want to emphasize it to the mainstream press, but the whole execution was just botched.

-Cooling off, the first party output isn't that bad for launch. Sales wise it is actually pretty strong, and P-100 seems like it could be a genuine gem. The main issue for launch I see is lack of CoD and lack of EA. It just makes Wii U look inferior.

-This point has been repeated so many times, but fuck- if Nintendo just showed ONE in development game that looked great, a lot of the bitching would have gone away. I agree with everyone else who has said that the biggest problem was there was no software that made you think you HAD to buy a Wii U. Hell, from a visual standpoint, Nintendo probably made a better impression last year with the Zelda and bird demo. That is just inexcusable. Nintendo did a great job hyping the Wii and 3DS, and they just completely shifted their strategy with Wii U, when I would argue they needed to build hype more than ever.

-It is only June, and we know Nintendo does their own thing. So I'm still somewhat hopeful we will see a few more 3rd party announcements and hopefully a glimpse of other first party projects by this fall.

Will WiiU be able to play Gamecube games? My kids asked this today and I thought it was a pretty good question. I don't see Gamecube controller ports anywhere so I'm guessing no?

So, what's the chances of that 3DS XL rumour being true, with it being announced later on tonight?

It'd save E3 for me. I'd happily trade in my 3DS and a few games to get a better model.

Of course - if you buy the inevitable eshop versions!

In other words, no. Not the ones you own on disc, anyway.

I'd say chances are that 3DS XL is almost 100% because Nikkei is almost always reliable. Whether it is anounced tonight or not is a different matter. Nikkei also said a projected pricepoint for Wii U which Nintendo clearly isn't ready to anounce until much later. Nintendo also said that their 3DS conference will be all about software.

I don't care for Reggie, but I like Iwata. I think he understands what the "general gaming public" wants, but either they didn't have anything ready (HD development is hard) or they don't want to go toe to toe with MS/Sony. The problem with the casual market is that they now have to go toe to toe with Apple/MS. I guess they are trying a middle ground, which is what Nintendoland is.

Cool thanks.

Poor E3 conferences leave a bad taste in my mouth. All I want is to be impressed by some quality games and wow'd by one or two surprises. That's really not asking much especially at the start of a new hardware generation. Damn you Nintendo!!!

Haha, so yesterday I was chatting with a friend during stream and TOTALLY called "My body was ready" 10 seconds before it actually happened :). I'm proud of my reggiexpertise.

yeah, I don't consider it a first party title if it isn't a Nintendo franchise and isn't developed by Nintendo. So Lego, Sing, and Ninja Gaiden are out. and Panoramic View isn't a game, if it's available at launch it'll be built into the system. So 6 games I guess, decent but not 9 games.

One thing I think we can count on is for Nintendo to rebound from this. While it seems that the target audience for their conference wasn't gamers like us they have surely heard a lot of negative feedback at this point.

We know Nintendo takes E3 feedback seriously (I believe some changes to the Skyward Sword artstyle were prompted from E3 feedback) I think Nintendo will take the feedback on board and break out some nice surprises some time before now and launch. Of course nothing they announce would make launch unless its already planned.

Okay didn't know they sold that well... :/ Is it split ecually through the different terrirories though? I know they're popular in Japan.
NSMB: 29.09 million worldwide, of which ~6.3m are in Japan.
NSMB Wii: 26.26 million worldwide, of which ~4.4m are in Japan.

Does anyone think Pikmin 3 looks better then any PS3 or 360 game?

I feel the exact same way on all of these, especially about Nintendoland and Wii Fit U.

Yeah, that's what I'm saying. It's looks okay but it's certainly not impressive.
I expected more from it than I should have.

I will admit that NintendoLand is prettier than I thought yesterday. As is ZombiU.

I just can't believe they didn't have something (anything) from their most technically competent studios.

This was basically my worst fear come to life. For all this talk about core gamers or whatever, Nintendo showed no reason that the Wii U is a step above PS3/360. Nothing even close really. I was very much hoping for a "wow" game, and it wasn't there unfortunately. On the one hand, I kind of understand Nintendo's want to remain focused on Wii U's launch, but on the other hand... people buy systems for more than just launches. People who really care about games want things that will make them excited for the future.

Maybe any PS3 or 360 game pre-2007. It looks decent, but it's not a graphical showcase, nor is it meant to be IMO.

From the looks of it, all the horsepower is there, but no one wants to use all of it. Porting/making limited capacity launch titles is the priority, which is understandable considering what devs have to work with. IF the horsepower is actually there, I don't think we'll see anything actually jaw dropping from 1.5+ years from now. I think that's par for course for any gen with these development cycles.

When they started with Pikmin I got really excited. I thought, "Oh shit, if that's what they're starting with what do they have for the rest of the show?!" I thought Pikmin was just the tip of the iceberg including graphically. Turns out it was pretty much the best thing out of the entire conference.

I'm kinda upset no Black Wii U at launch now, after that conference, I was hoping at least they would launch with 2 colors. I would've still bought day 1, but now I dont see it worth it.

Nothing is confirmed in that regard, hell they don't even know if they're gonna pack in NintendoLand or not.

But I won't buy the Wii U until it's available in black, yes. I just think that it will be there day 1.

So, definite confirmation that EA Sports games are coming and have not been announced. Still think it is a bad sign if there is nothing for launch though.

"On WiiU planning a number of sports games not announced yet, globally as payment becomes easier the payrate will rise" (tweet from EA meeting)

I wish. You could tell it was a Wii game at first.

Still worries me that they haven't announced anything.

So what surprises did Nintendo's conference have? We already knew about Pikmin and Wii Fit U in a way. So was Nintendo Land the only genuinely new game shown between 1st and 3rd parties? Well, maybe scribblenauts also.

Do we know if the gamepad does sound? ie. would I be able to stream VC games to it while something else is on the TV?
