No I said nothing in that regard. Is my english really that bad? I said they were doing E3 introduction videos 2014 and 2015 and this time this is not the case, because they announced their E3 plans just like last year with a PR statement. I wasn't talking about the E3 live show.

To tell the truth, I was at least as much hyped for the E3 introduction video as I was with the the actual E3 Event stream. I'm a bit salty they didn't do one now, was a big fan of the 2014 and 2015 introduction videos.

For those who don't know (as this seems to have come up a lot in the early pages), the E3 Direct is never officially branded the "Direct" but called something else to distinguish it. In the past it was the Digital Event, though this led to a lot of FUD about Nintendo "not being at E3". (Meanwhile, 2016 was just the Zelda trailer and title announcement before heading straight to the Treehouse.) Now that we're several years into Nintendo dropping the traditional live press conference, it's specifically the E3 video that has been rebranded the Spotlight.

Okay you mean like the Mega 64 announcement video? That makes even less sense to me as indicative of what they'll discuss at E3 though.

But last year (2016) they didn't have a video presentation like a Digital Event/Direct. They have one this year. Do you seriously think that'll be a 45-50 minute video showing nothing but Mario Odyssey?

Look over their E3 PR announcements from 2015 and earlier, they sound exactly like this.

You really don't know what you're talking about. At this point last year, Nintendo's public stance was that E3 was focused on Zelda. At this point NOW, Nintendo's public stance is that E3 is dedicated to new information on Super Mario Odyssey, ARMS, Splatoon 2, and more Switch titles for 2017. And just like this point last year, Nintendo has stated these items are the "focus", which means more beyond this scope will be unveiled.

Stop making shit up.
 
So, it seems like the Direct ("Nintendo Spotlight: E3 2017") will only feature Switch games, while Treehouse Live will feature both Switch and 3DS games. Sounds good, Nintendo!

The only connection you name is that they didn't have an announcement video for the direct, and you ignore the fact that there is nothing in the wording that even implies they are doing a BOTW with Odyssey, so this is extremely far-fetched.

You should explain to me why 2016 is suddenly a standard E3 format for Nintendo, since that makes no sense to me, and doesn't emerge from the press release at all.

Last year they also explicitly said they were bringing only Zelda to E3, which is something they aren't saying in the slightest this year.

I have a feeling we already know about the last 3DS exclusives that will exist from Nintendo. 3DS may get some future downports but I think Ever Oasis, Miitopia, and Hey! Pikmin are the last hurrah for 3DS from Nintendo. No point in teasing those games during the spotlight when they already had several public showings.

Edit: Forgot about the Kirby game dropping later this year, even then it is still minor compared to what people want, which is more Switch content.
 
You all are neglecting to mention a few random third parties that will come to Switch this fall. Lego Star wars
While we don't have confirmation, if a new Lego game is coming to release with the new Star Wars movie, then it is releasing on Switch.

Steep, Skyrim, NBA and Fifa as well.

I personally think there is still the possibility of Madden and a third party FPS this year.

Activision hasn't announced any support other than Skylanders. I'm still thinking we get a COD announced for this November. Even if it is Modern warfare remake or a port of Blops (as some have rumored).

I also expect something announced from Capcom, maybe that western monster hunter. I also expect a few Jrpg pets to be announced. Bamco will surely have something to announce also. Maybe by TGS.

There will no doubt be new announcements, but expectations should be kept low. Using you example, the extra announcements on that direct were pretty minor. I'm not exactly convinced Nintendo even has a whole lot to show right now to be honest. While the assumption was that their output on this device would be very high, I'm inclined to err on the side of caution with Nintendo piecemealing out game announcements so far.

Pokémon Stars would be the Third version. So it's technically a HD upgraded version with move tutors and other stuff the 3rd version of Pokémon usually brings that you can play on your TV if you chose to.


It's a big deal to many.

Not to mention enhanced versions typically sell 7 million units alone. Most would kill for those numbers on a single platform.

Not going to count ARMS in this, but these are "smaller" games to you?

Splatoon 2
Fire Emblem Warriors
Mario + Rabbids (likely)
Xenoblade 2

It may not be a long list, but each is kinda massive in its own way. And that doesn't include little trailers for games like DQ XI or Sonic Mania, nor the rumoured games like BGE2 or Smash. So this isn't about expectations, this is literally just about you not caring about, nor respecting, the other games Nintendo publishes and intends to talk about.
 
Hyped about that ARMS tournament. I wish Nintendo would have uploaded to their NOA channel that ARMS tournaments in Japan instead of me waiting for other very nice people to upload that stuff...

I wouldn't mind it at all if they throw Modern Warfare Remastered at us. WiiU blops2 got slammed for its "1000 people online" server population but aside from MW1/2 it's probably the only CoD I spent a decent time in, mostly due to the accessibility from having the pad to play with.

Nintendo has been moving towards the strategy of announcing things much closer to their actual release these days. I mean, the Switch itself was revealed and released within the span of 5 months. While you shouldn't expect anything that would take 3-4 years to actually release, don't be surprised if Nintendo drops a few... err... Surprises for early 2018 during the Spotlight in June.
 
Focus on 2017 Switch games. Perfect.
It means, almost no 3ds but a few 2018 tease for the Switch.
I don't know if I want a treehouse for Xenoblade 2 or not... I kinda want to avoid seeing too much.

Absolutely not expecting Pokemon or any other big
seller
first party except maybe for Smash, but some interesting 3rd party.
And of course juicy trailers of Xeno 2, Mario and Splatoon 2. I'd like to know exactly how Splat 2 will work because I'm still not sure if I buy it or not.

Looking forward to seeing more Super Mario Odyssey and what surprises they might have. I don't believe in the slightest that Metroid will be among them.

They were pretty minor because the Direct was pretty minor. I know you don't like the whole "wait for..." thing but, seriously, wait for a console's first E3 before making judgements on its future software outlook. This is especially the case when you seem to be holding Nintendo to a higher standard than the other two console manufacturers; Sony and Microsoft pretty much only announce major titles at E3 yet that isn't "piece-mealing" whilst it is for Nintendo, who still focuses a lot on E3 but has a few Directs each year. What do you expect from them given that we've only really "known" about the Switch and its game lineup since January?
 
Anyone think that since Nintendo bought the Cruisin franchise, we could see a revival of that this year. The new arcade game looks like the successor to Excite Truck.
 
It's absolutely 100% sure they'll tease some 2018 titles.

I'm also smiling imagining all these people who think there are only 4 worlds in Mario Odyssey.
This event is going to be interesting.
 
I gotta be honest, I cringe everytime Nintendo keeps pushing and showing Nintendo 3DS stuff. Just let it die! Can't believe they still keep pushing that 5+ year old outdated as hell handheld. They don't even show exciting games anymore other than RPGs and weird spin offs nobody asked for.

Otherwise, hyped as hell for Switch stuff and of course the all mighty Mario Oddissey!
 
seems like people are overreacting

there's nothing stopping them from saying "and here's a little peep into our 2018 line-up", que Animal Crossing trailer and Metroid/BGE teaser
then you have the Mario blowout, Xenoblade, Retro's new IP, FE Warriors and maybe Pokemon Stars for a respectable 2017 showing

While I consider FF Mark a great choice of typeface for most things Nintendo Switch, I find this logo very uninspired. Unlike the new Nintendo Direct logo which features a custom cut of FF Mark and an element other than text, this is just plain FF Mark Heavy with what seems to be default kerning (minimal differences).

I find nothing interesting about this logo. There's no flair, no excitement. The Digital Event logo was much better. It was certainly simple but had some color and something going on, it resembled an actual logo and not just plain text.

One can only hope they will provide a good animated sequence featuring the Spotlight logo.
 
Are people really surprised about the "Focus on 2017" blurb?

Historically at E3 Nintendo shows off the games from the second half of that year with maybe a tease or two for the next year unless they're in panic mode like they were in...2013, was it?

Those were also exceptions. I feel like Nintendo dropped off of announcing games more than a year out after 2007 or so.
 
Excited the Spotlight is just on Switch games. Even though they've stated it's a focus on 2017 titles, hopefully theirs a couple of new game announcements slated for release in 2018, its E3 Nintendo so blow us away!

We had a rumor before concerning a Dark Souls 3 port, I hope it's real and we will have third party surprises like this.
 
This is what i was fearing : Not going into hype mode about future projects on Switch.

I doubt there will be many 3rd party surprises in 2017 since games take a while to make. If we don't see many (not that there won't be any) news for 2018 and even beyond, Switch will be tagged as not supported by 3rd parties.

Deciding on the type of conference and message you send to peoples at E3 has a huge huge influence for what kind of perception the peoples will have for this platform.

Well, notice that the Spotlight Presentation is solely focusing on Switch games. They still need to demo and release the coming 3DS games we know about, but it seems like they won't be announcing any (or many) new ones.

People are misreading that and thinking it will solely be 2017 games (or in some cases solely Mario Odyssey), when this is the same type of language Nintendo always uses and they always announce games coming in the next year.
 
New Animal Crossing is definitely a reasonable bet, though it'll just be a trailer I think. Could see it being a late spring/early summer game (perhaps spring 2018 in Japan) with the smartphone app being released some time before that (this fall, for example). The idea is that you play that in anticipation for the new game, and by progressing you can unlock special stuff in Animal Crossing Switch.

Another 2018-announcement I think we're getting is Smash Bros. for Switch for early 2018. It'll be similar to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe in the sense that it's mostly the same original game, but with some substantial additions and changes. Notable new characters will be the Inklings as well as both Spring Man and Ribbon Girl from ARMS (who will be just costume swaps of each other, they are identical gameplay-wise).
 
Interested to see what Game Freak has in store for the potential third Pokemon game. I'm hopefully they finally utilize the extra power in the "New" 3DS/2DS hardware for a proper framerate for a change.
 
From the promo materials I'm hoping this E3 doesn't boil down to "Hey! Let's just play the most boring parts of Odyssey for hours!"

Because they did that last year with Zelda and I wanted to strangle myself.

3DS isn't going to be part of the Nintendo Spotlight aka their presentation.

Naw it won't be like that this year. Nintendo has a lot of games to show off. The Wii U was dead last year and so they decided to focus on one game being Botw.

It's almost better to start your expectations at this baseline anyway so that when there's more you can be pleasantly surprised instead of expecting to be blown away and coming away sad.

I'm going to be guarded but optimistic. I love my new switch I want good things to come
