I will fully turn Intelligent Systems into a powerhouse studio if they manage to show something substantial for Fire Emblem Warriors AND the new Fire Emblem on Switch. These guys don't get enough acclaim for their high quality yet somewhat fast output.
Fire Emblem Warriors is Koei Tecmo, the same developers behind Hyrule Warriors.
Intelligent Systems is only directly working on FE Switch right now, as far as we all know.
I mean Fates is pretty unevenly spread (talking gameplay) from amazing and new (Conquest) to staid but better than Awakening (Birthright) to batshit crazy (Revelations),
With all due respect, Conquest in only better than Awakening in terms of gameplay - but the rest of Fates, including Conquest's story, is varying levels of very bad.
but still that is a good deal more than one more even keel FE in terms of content, as I see it, in the time it'd take them to make one and the top tier of it was great.
IS is on fire, but I could see HD (and (hopefully) upping their story/world/character ambitions) slowing them down.
If Intelligent Systems can combine the complexity behind Fire Emblem Conquest with the storytelling of Path of Radiance & Shadows of Valentia (Full Voice Acting, Deeper Story, etc.), it'll be a winner.
Their recent projects all feel like practice for FE Switch in terms of the changes they've made to fight scene choreography and mechanics, so it'll be interesting to see what they do. At the very least, I feel like it'll reduce workload for them since they've gotten practice trying new things on the last three Fire Emblem games.
I love Intelligent Systems. Those guys are high quality and push out a somewhat fast and consistent rate. I think they've been playing around with how they wanna do a HD big Fire Emblem for a while now with the 3DS entries. They're trying to see what works and what doesn't.
This is probably true.
Fire Emblem Awakening taught them the power behind waifu.
I get what you mean but I still cringed reading this.
It allowed them to explore pair-up mechanics and then refine it in Fates. Marriage was already in one of the original games and many hated how it and children were forced into Fates despite not making sense.
Fire Emblem Fates had alotta cool mechanics going on like My Castle.
I must be in the minority - I didn't think My Castle really added anything other than a way to get skills without trying.
Fire Emblem Warriors will prolly give them some ideas behind world building and becoming more established.
The guys behind Golden Sun (Camelot) and Retro Studios need to take notes.
Again, that's Koei Tecmo - and even more to the point: they already have gratuitous world building experience, and a Warriors game (aka a hack & slash) would definitely not benefit their world building experience in any way - the Radiant duology and SoV both show they have relatively few issues in this area.
Regarding your second statement, we haven't seen anything from Retro that required world building since the Prime Trilogy ended in 2007.
