Nintendo E3 plans detailed

Off-topic, but Arrow Season 5 was awesome. The show really bounced back from the last 2 seasons.

But yeah, Smash 4 Deluxe evolving into Smash 5 throughout development is entirely possible.

Pokémon already skipped 2015, so TPC/Game Freak skipping 2017 is pretty unlikely.

TPC/Game Freak seem to march to the beat of their own drum. I don't see them sitting on a game for several months because it might better fit a Nintendo release schedule in 2018. They, understandably, want their money now. If "Stars" is a 2018 title, it's because they couldn't get it done for 2017. I doubt that's the case. Just my opinion though.

I imagine a Pokémon Stars wouldn't take as much work or sell as many units as a new gen so releasing this year makes sense.
They can realistically do a 3DS version like with FE Warriors.

But I don't see Smash and Pokémon Stars (both) happening this year. They need to save some stuff for 2018 unless they want all their momentum to die off.

Do we say this with the understanding that Nintendo handles the distribution and publishing? The localization? Production and coordination? No TPC doesn't march to the beat of their own drum when it comes to publishing a game on Nintendo platforms.

I have faith that Nintendo will have titles ready next year even if they launch everything rumored this year. (I'm expecting Fire Emblem, Animal Crossing, Retro's project, NLG's project, maybe Pikmin, maybe Good-Feel's project, maybe the 2D Mario team's project, maybe Kirby, a few surprises, etc.) The bigger question for me will be how Nintendo convinces people to keep paying for their online services if they launch all their big online titles this year. Mario Kart, Smash, Pokémon, ARMS, Splatoon...what franchise does that leave to incentivize paying for another year of the service at the end of 2018? It makes me wonder if Nintendo could announce some online-focused titles for 2018—perhaps NLG's and Retro's projects will have online stuff and Animal Crossing will have new expanded features—or if a game like Smash could be a 1H 2018 title to have a big online title in early 2018.

Fair, I just see their relationship as more of a partnership then Nintendo calling all the shots. I don't see Nintendo making demands like release date here like they would with a true first party developer.

I want more motion control games, that casuals who've never really picked up a controller before can play. Something like Wii Bowling that was immensely popular and that everybody could pick up in less than five seconds. This is the perfect platform for that, but it seems like Nintendo wanna move away from the Wii branding. I just still can't fathom, why they haven't at least released some of these sports games under a different brand on the eShop.

I got nothing else than Breath of the Wild to play. I had Mario Kart 8 on Wii U, and will probably pick it up for Battle Mode, but I got nobody to play it with anyway. Unless I can match up with my friends on my friendlist, this ain't gonna have any longevity. Splatoon 2 I'll be picking up for sure, but can I play against my friends or will it just be random online matchmaking?

And then there's absolutely nothing for me this Holiday. I couldn't care less about Xenoblade, Mario, Rabbids, Metroid, Donkey Kong, Smash Bros and stuff like that. If they announce Pokémon Stars for this Holiday, then that season will be saved for my Switch.

While I like that this thread is alive, why is it still alive? Is it mostly a thread of E3 speculation for Nintendo?

A Wii Sports (uhh, Switch Sports?) and Wii Fit (uhh, Switch Fit?) really do feel inevitable, considering the successes of the originals in reaching the casual gamer market.

I expect a previously unknown retail title to hit in late 2017 on less than six months' notice (unless Rabbids Kingdom Battle was meant to fill that slot, but I think we can agree that neither it nor FE Warriors are coming out of the first-party pipeline), but I don't think it will be either SSB or Pokémon. Between MK8D, Arms, and Splatoon 2, this is already the hardest Nintendo has ever pushed first-party online multiplayer, apparently to the end of pushing the paid online service (and sweetening the deal with "free" post-launch content for Arms and Splatoon that keeps players engaged, with the online fee subsidizing said content), and I don't think it's to their advantage to drop SSB Switch too soon, even if they're hanging on to a title that is ready to ship. I'd sooner expect it to be their all-audiences flagship for the first half of 2018.

Rather, I'd expect something like a principally single-player experience that doesn't fill the same role as Odyssey, Xenoblade, or the BotW DLC—something comparatively lightweight but not to the point of being multiplayer/online-centric. FE Warriors is arguably that kind of game, but I'm thinking along the lines of Animal Crossing, WarioWare, Mario sports, or a 2D platformer in a minor series (I'd say Kirby if the IP didn't already look so busy on the 3DS). These are all titles that would be well positioned to round out the library and cover all bases going into the holiday.

By the end of E3 I expect to know about (a) one new retail title for late 2017, (b) at least one title for Q1 2018 (which may be Xenoblade 2 if it doesn't make it to the west this year—the big tell will be whether we see any footage with English text), and (c) the mass-market tentpole for next spring (SSB would certainly fit the bill).

Hmmm...woolly world just happened, Kirby just happened, that pikmin game is still coming, it would be strange to drop 2D/3D Mario at same time, so...Donkey Kong would be the 2D platformer guess?

Or 2D Metroid...

I don't see why you couldn't. I mean, every online game I played on the Wii U allowed for you to be able to play with your friends, as did the 3DS, so a system with superior online capabilities should also allow you to do the same

There's like two others that are the same thing only with Sony and Microsoft. The Sony one is fun because some guy is claiming a PS4 portable exists to compete with the switch.

Yeah, I kinda wish someone would start leaking Nintendo stuff - even if it's just a drip here & there; heck, I'll even take the crazy rumors like those.

Warioware and Mario Sports are both multiplayer-centric, though obviously not to the same competitive degree as Splatoon or ARMS.

That said, I think you're probably right that we're due for either a Mario Sports title or a Mario Party or a Wario minigame collection of some sort. And no matter which of those it is, it will attract detractors saying that there isn't enough content to justify a full retail price.

My personal guess is that we'll get an announcement of either Mario Party 11 or Mario Golf Switch.

Here's a hot scoop for ya:

Waluigi + Lucina: Married in Vegas

The cover has a drunk and disheveled-looking Lucina from Fire Emblem, at the altar next to a dapper Waluigi in a bulging leisure suit.

A Retro Studios x Platinum Games x From Software collaboration, apparently. Authored by Itoi. Music by David Wise.

The game's slogan is: "WAH."

Nintendo is the publisher. Publishers ALWAYS call the shots when it comes to release dates. ALWAYS.

A Factor 5 & Retro Studios game is the only thing the world need. Turrican a la "Prime".
With Chris Huelsbeck and Kenji Yamamoto on the soundtrack.

Apart from nier 2 or another action rpg for SE?
I bet they will somehow show something good for swith too (maybe just a bayonetta 2 port) at this e3
heh,I really want them to do Bayonetta 3 fogames some reasons :P, but them making a Nintendo game would be good too

Yeah the engine and all the assets are built to easily transition to HD. Hackers rather quickly had Sun and moon running on their PCs in HD. Given all the hints, I could see you fullfilling Kukui's dream by travelling to Kanto and beating the Gyms/E4.

I see Smash Bros. being an early 2018 title with Stars possibly being an October title.

Really wish Itoi wasn't a voice JRPG had lost...

If we could get a Mother like game every 5 years or so, it'd be good for the genre.

Everyone keeps talking about Stars and Smash Switch, but I REALLY don't want either of them any time soon if there's not a significant amount of new content in them. I don't think either of these games need to be rushed out for Switch if they have the option to expand them in a meningful way, because that's what those versions of those games need.

Pokémon because the series has been lacking in significant postgame content for a while and needs a third version return to form, and Smash Bros. because a game in that series being a new content-scarce port released to little or no fanfare is very very strange to me and something I just don't see happening. Especially considering the opportunity they have to position it as a stopgap Smash title that could satisfy fans of the series for many years without a new title (if the port has a decent chunk of new content).

In short, release Smash and Stars when you have meaningful expansions for them ready. I'm truly not of the mind that a quick and cheap port of Smash Wii U and a rush job third version of Sun and Moon are good ideas.

I want to see the ending with Waluigi kissing Lucina on the top of Mt.Fuji
Recently there was an interview where they are having a new director on one of their games.
That's interesting

How is Rocket League suppose to work with digital triggers. They would need to release Joycons with analogue triggers as a revision or implement some other way to control the speed.

Don't people play Rocket League just fine with a keyboard and mouse on PC? Besides, I can't recall a time where I didn't keep the triggers pressed all the way when I played it on the PS4. It should work just fine on the Switch

As for smaller games, I wonder if we might see something from Good Feel in 2018. It probably wouldn't be big enough to reveal at this year's E3, but I wouldn't think the Yoshi 3DS port took up a ton of their time so they're probably working on some stylized platformer for Switch.

It also wouldn't surprise me to see something from Platinum, the options being either Bayonetta 3, some Nintendo franchise revival, or maybe a new IP. It seems like Nintendo doesn't care a whole lot about commercial or critical reception when continuing to contract a developer, so it's not like Star Fox Zero being a flop would sour the relationship. (they keep giving Arzest work, after all)

I would also expect wild cards. I don't remember if it was from Nintendo themselves or just rumors, but I thought I heard that Nintendo was focusing more on new IPs after the success of Splatoon. It fits in with the big push we're seeing with ARMS. I could see some of the middle-tier dormant IPs getting pushed aside this gen in favor of making brand new IPs. (in other words, bad news for F-Zero fans)

This makes you think

Switch year 1 is really amazing
Yep, still surprised by the amount of people that keep insisting it's bad. It's almost like it's their first launch...or they've completely forgotten the last console launches

Yeah, the art style would translate over well especially for the battles...though I'm kind of hoping they re-do the overworld which is still lacking.
The release of those two are a bit weird. Could even be the other way around since Pokemon is usually announced outside of e3 and they haven't done that yet (so maybe it's not due this year?)

I hope Next Level Games show what they are working on now, it should be Luigi's Mansion 3 as they done a great job with LM2/DM.

It's remasters I hope to see though, HD Metroid Prime Trilogy would be immense

A Luigi's Mansion 3 in HD would look siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiccck

Is NLG big enough, and has enough time elapsed since Federation Force, for them to show a new game?

I wonder if they'll have anything to show at E3. Federation Force launched late last year, and the last time NLG made an HD game was back in 2011. So I think whatever they are working on is probably a ways off. Luigi's Mansion 3 is a safe bet since Dark Moon did surprisingly well on 3DS.

Speaking of remasters, I wonder if Nintendo might contract Tantalus to do a remaster for Switch. They did a solid job on Twilight Princess HD.

It SHOULD be Strikers.
But it won't be.
This would actually be my first choice. With the joycons we can even do blocking similar to Charged (albeit gyro-based, rather than IR). HD Rumble would be crazy intense in a game like Strikers where you're constantly slide-kicking and shoulder-checking people into electric fences. Also, HD resolutions in general would benefit this game by making smaller detail (such as the players when the camera pans back) easier to see from a distance.

Every year I get in this mood about a month before E3.

It's categorized by extreme, ever-present nostalgia for Metroid. I want to experience the Prime games again for the first time, I want to see new planets, I want to go behind the visor again, I want to explore a facility while hiding from a super evolved version of myself.

Last year I was hurt, but I maintain hope, for that's all we Metroid fans have now, is...

Ayye I do as well also.....

Why does Samus need that cloth? It's just like that teaser for Halo 5 where Master chief had the same thing. Those two are in suit of armor for Christ sake.

I can sympathize...always half believe there is going to be end-of-event shock Metroid trailer despite myself :P.
