sorry if old.

huh?

they've just taken screen grabs of the promo vid from TGS and given specific examples of how they can be applied to existing games.

that's what it seems like.

they're decent examples at that. i think something they failed to realize, is that this controller will more than likely change the perspective, of which a lot of games where played at this generation.

The caption just says "if you could play Zelda like this, it'd be pretty fun, wouldn't it?"
I'd love to actually try and play a Zelda game like that, but that would only work well with the sword, how exactlky could the controller be used for other weapons?

they'll just have to come up with new weapons

That wouldn't happen. Nintendo have stuck with the same weapons since LttP. They'll just come up with a new system of using the weapons. With OoT Nintendo made the c-buttons the ones to use to get out different weapons, for GC it has been x, y and z. For revolution, the only way I can think of them making a similar sytem to the previous games is to let the player get out weapons by using the d-pad on the remote. The joystick would be used to aim the weapoon and A can be used to fire the weapon.

I dont understand why they need the cable between the handsets if its using wireless technology.
another set of batteries to buy and recharge and more cost (for Nintendo which they would then pass off to customers) for an extra wireless receiver/sender built into it.

Essentially, the one producer with the most IP to benefit from the Rev controller is LucasArts.

- Star Wars: Obvious Lightsaber useage for a new Jedi Knight game?
- Indiana Jones: controller as the whip, in 1st person, can be used to attack enemies and swing with.

The potential for the controller is good, I just hope it fucking gets used this time round, unlike the DS.

thats all well and good. but the most compelling and complete games that come forthe REV probably won't be the ones that have you swining the controller around like an ADD chimpanzee. There are going to be a few games like that that will probably be fun, no question, but that just isn't the direction the good content will go IMO

AndreasNystrom: Costs? Wanna buy 2 Batteries/Akkus? (edit: whoops, Scrow already said that :x) Cord should just be a little longer tho...

straight from the new EDGE:

"why isn't it wireless?" we ask. "because," laughs miyamoto, as if it's the most obvious thing in the world, "if it was we wouldn't be able to call it the nunchuck controller."

I could definitely see these items/weapons in a next-gen Zelda:

lasso - maybe this a rev-enhancement in LOZ: TP?
axe - for chopping down trees blocking the path, and such
wand - back from NES zelda
drums - as the magic musical instrument
horse - use the controller as reins

I only use batteries you can recharge, so thats no problem.

awesome photoshop with Bruce Lee? :D LOL!

Btw. that old PC-hardware that let you play games by moving your hands in 3d, is enough for showing what the rev-controller can do i think.

I wonder why Nintendo didnt go with that route instead, when showcasing their controller?

will this new controller be the thing to push the fps genre onto the japs?

God i hope not, im so sick of the current FPS mold. If i go through another tutorial level where i have to redevouz with my squad im gonna shoot myself.

Those would be great, but how exactly would you go about the traditional Zelda weapons such as the bow and arrow. The way I can see it happening is that you can set the weapon one of the directions on the d-pad, so to get out the weapon you can press that direction on the d-pad. To fire the weaspon you could use the trigger at the back to lock on and fire with 'A' or you could either aim in first person byholding down 'A', aim with the joystick and klet go of 'A' when you want to fire. I could actually see that working really well and that is how I would like it, although I guess when Nintendo were designing the controller, they had main titles such as Zelda in mind, so they will probably come up with something great that will be simple and great to use!

These are all great, but does the controller have a sophisticated rumble system. One of my main qualms with the Rev controller is that there is no resistance. You can't swing a sword like you can swing a controller. Swords weigh a lot as do axes - a tv remote weighs a hell of a lot less and has no air resistance. Reins is interesting, if you had rumble, otherwise its retarded.

The bow and arrow as well as the hookshot could be done easily. In OOT, they can be used in first person view right? Well, the bow and arrow could just work similar to a gun with the controller. The hookshot would work even better, as you'd just point it to wherever you want to go, then push the B trigger under the controller. It would literally work like Batman's grappling hook. :)

The pad has rumble.
But maybe it is even something more advanced like the device Wario Ware Twisted had. Motion sensor but at the same time it really "clicks" once when you select an option from the menu. Would be great!

edit: mj1108; haha nice one :D

And also what i about controlling the horse while i slash away, and the camera?
People seems to forget some elements when they dream "oh shit it's gonna be so cool doing X with controller X".

you no longer have to do any of that! you just swing the controller around for a bit until you reach the next cutscene! Don't want to intimidate those non gamers!

You'd still have the analog stick on the other side of the nunchaku controller to a control say ... a horse or to move Link around.

You could hit Z1 or Z2 to the "center" the camera behind Link, just like OoT/MM.

I'm pretty sure Nintendo looked at future iterations of Zelda before giving the nunchaku design the green light.

Provided Nintendo even ends up with this control scheme.
