Nintendo says Mario and Princess Peach are just 'good friends' who help each other out whenever they can

She kisses him right on the lips in Mario All-Stars. Although I guess she does the same thing to Luigi if you play as him so maybe that doesn't prove anything.
 
I wish they are consistent about it. The friendship CAN work, but it requires that both sides are not interested in each other.

I see it as a retcon. Previously they were made to be a couple because of the Popeye -> Olive Oyl angle of the original Jumpman story. But Nintendo doesn't want the relationship to go anywhere. This then makes Peach look like she took advantage of Mario and friendzoned him against his will, especially obvious with Odyssey.

I think this is an intentional reset of the lore. And to make it believable they would have to stop having Mario trying to woo Peach entirely. They should never have Mario trying to ask Peach for her affection in the last game, if she was going to reject him like that. Let them BE friends in the actual lore. Mario will help her if requested, but he should never again expect anything from her EVER. Mario need some self respect.

Odyssey made it explicit that Mario was interested in Peach. But they now want to walk it back because at this point Peach is behaving like an entitled bitch for stringing Mario along.

Remember the Bowsette craze? It all started from a webcomic about how Peach rejected Mario. If they are going to continue to feature Peach and Mario in the same room, they are going to have to find a relationship that isn't so toxic and making Peach look bad for Friendzoneing.
 
She's been getting more out of the deal this whole time. After she used him in Mario Odyssey to get free, and then dropped him when he wanted to make it official, she left to be a single, independent woman.
 
Funny thing is Nintendo could end this simply by saying that Mario is married like a normal Italian catholic.

But they'll probably say he still lives with his mother and has a mustache because he wants to look like his mother.
 
Saying these kind of things isn't as nice as they think it is. Romance used to be considered a good thing. It's so dead these days, and that's a sad thing to me.

Do you really expect a japanese company that has existed since the motherloving ottoman empire to say their flagship, kid friendly mascot is BALLS DEEP into their roastie character?
