Nintendo Switch 2 joycons on display at CES 2025

I must have been the only one liking playing BOTW launch day with joycons, chill on sofa with both joycons on side of body, twitching it to aim arrows, etc.

I like that it allows arms to be more relaxed than typical controllers

These ones being 1/2" taller already and probably wider, will feel even better.

Only thing I hate is the "d-pad" being buttons.

Why are different versions of the logo? Why does it say Switch2 instead of Switch 2?

This stinks like a trolling to me, the reasons why the logo is not consistent may be because they made those mockups up from internet fan renders, also there's the logo in the pro controller looking so damn amateur it's not even funny lol.

The reason I can think for it being "Switch" with no space in between is to avoid any possible Nintendo lawsuit for the use of the trademark.

Also, haven't payed attention but have they shown the word "Nintendo" anywhere? If they're licensed partners they should have the right to do so.

By now I'm 100% sure Nintendo is allowing third parties to show their products for Switch 2. There is no way everyone is doing it with such cynicism.

nah, Nintendo has no control here. these thrid party manufacturers are not officially licensed by Nintendo,
they got their specs/dimensions from probably leaked units in chinese factories and started making peripherals from there.

now they use this to get people talking about their products as everyone is sharing images of these on twitter and reddit.

notice how officially licensed partners like Hori or PowerA aren't leaking anything. it's exclusively chinese brands... and Dbrand, who probably got their dimensions and specs from the same factory leaks as the chinese manufacturers, and who also are not officially licensed.

don't care about the actual look of the console and joycons, I'm going to permanently keep it tied to the TV and playing it with a handheld Pro Controller anyway.

They need to do a TV-only switch. People argue that the purpose is to switch between portable and TV, but they did a Portable-only version, so what's the problem about doing it the other way around?

In fact, ever since the Switch was announced back in 2016, I've always suggested that there should be three versions!
Portable - Switch - TV

Genki just updated website and we have the render right on front page rather than a cam video

God, that is sexy

in that video we also see the optical sensor having a blinking laser that looks a lot like an optical mouse sensor.
so yeah, it seems more and more likely that they can be used like a mouse.

I wonder however if they have a game right away that makes good use of it.
maybe Mario Maker 3 close to launch?

This is already beyond ridiculous, and I'm starting to lose any faith I could have in this system being good.
Nintendo isn't Kojima. They have never resorted to teasing and tantalizing their audience with deception and bait-and-switch tactics. This whole situation reeks of insecurity on their part. I mean, WiiU was an announced disaster and they still had their president unboxing one while wearing gloves, during a Direct. Now we have more leaks than the Titanic, and still complete radio silence from Nintendo.

I don't believe they don't have their big game ready for launch. Their latest full-blown 3D Mario was more than 7 years ago. To not have their best launch game ready at this point would be beyond moronic. Have we ever, ever seen a gaming system getting so close to release without a single word of preview from the maker?

All due respect, this is the worst post in this entire thread. Nintendo does whatever they want. All of these part leaks probably doesn't even register - and if they do, we're unlikely to see anything that resembles a direct response. It drives people crazy, but Nintendo always continues on with their own plans unphased, for better or worse.

I'd agree with that if it was just leaks. But when third party accessory makers are already selling accessories for your system and are showing your hardware at public trade shows I think we're very far beyond just 'leaks'.

It is very strange any way you slice it imo. Maybe Nintendo screwed up with their NDA's.

Dude, we're getting accessories shown at CES for a system the official name of hasn't even been confirmed by its maker.
There's putting the cart before the horses, and then there's this.
I mean, we all know PlayStation 6 will be called that, but I still think Sony will announce and preview it in some form before third-party accessories are greenlit for reveal.

Nintendo don't control what unlicensed accessory makers do, though. If the specs are already out there, I guess the most Nintendo can do is take legal action.

The interesting part is what made the Switch announcement get delayed, because everyone was ready to show their accessories at CES (and everywhere really).

There must've been some issues at Nintendo that prevented them from announcing it. But was it a game? Production/Demand Projections? Hardware issues? Marketing?
They probably DMCA'd their own marketing department by mistake

What I find the most worrying, is that you can hardly tell the difference with Switch 1. It is the exact same thing. Coming from Nintendo, which have been making consoles vastly different from one another for decades, it feels totally surreal to see how close they are.

If that's true Nintendo must be really on trouble right now. This may be a signal they are having some trouble "focusing" the launch strategy of Switch 2. Having no common strategy with third party producers means they have no clear action plan for launch. I hope I'm wrong but all this leaks are not normal for a Nintendo hardware

Wow 8 year wait for the same looking shit. Dissapointed so far by the rumors about specs ect.I will probalbly bite and buy at some point though.
But damn this shit looks so safe it's a shame.

If this turns out to be close to the look of the real thing the i Don't think many people will be jumping on this as much as nintendo hopes.this needs to have something special to get people hyped. Not just a faster, better looking switch 1.
Also cross gen games won't help either imo....

just a reminder to bever buy Hori trash controllers... but the option is still there if you're masochistic enough

There are dozens of various joycons replacements either ergonomics of your choice. Some are part of a rigid case and there are ones with even dock capabilities integrated.

Joycons are great for traveling though.

The Switch 2 will be my new nintendo console after skipping WiiU and OG Switch, care to point me to some good joypad alternative brands?

come on nintendo , release the pre orders already, fake or not it looks slick :messenger_grinning_sweat: switch oled has already been traded in i'm ready for next gen.
the sooner the better lol

Yea I don't expect any 'Switch 2' exclusive games, like... ever. Probably just looks better, but I doubt they will abandon all the millions of Switch 1 users.

I'm not liking what I'm seeing of switch 2 so far. The ergonomics being too similar. The same d pad design? The form factor being so small instead of aiming for comfort ...I dunno ...is there a chance this mock ups are totally wrong or is this it?

Dear Nintendo Trinity Cat Gods, I know you're real, thanks for unveiling officially parts of Switch 2.
May the leaking of leak threads stop leaking from now.

Why are people acting surprised that the Joycons are "too small" etc? Were you really expecting a drastic departure from the original Switch?

This is such a weird timeline.

We basically know what the entire unit looks like now (sans dock) but Nintendo has yet to say a peep about it themselves.

third party Switch 2 Pro controller,
notice how the C button is also present here! so, whatever the C button does is not linked to JoyCon functionality.

and it also means the C button has to have a function that is needed in docked or tabletop mode as well, and isn't tied to handheld mode.

My guess: "C" for "Cursor" mode. Support for gyro basic cursor on Pro controller and IR mouse cursor on the JoyCon for FPS, RTS, etc because we all know thumb-sticks are utter trash for certain types of games. That'd be kind of wild if it happened, you could play proper strategy games without being hampered by utterly frustrating controls.
