Nintendo Switch Presentation - January 12th

Hm. If he's correct then maybe Wii U VC isn't that out of the question given that single core performance is the most important aspect of how capable your hardware is at emulating. Having 6, 8 or 12 cores doesn't matter if they're not up to the task individually. How exciting :D. Wii VC should be a lock for sure, given Nintendo knows the hardware best. Imagine playing Gamecube/Wii games at native 720p in portable mode, that'd be pretty sweet. Man I hope there's a big homebrew scene as well.

My reaction to the news of Eternal Darkness getting a VC release would be something along the lines of: "This... Isn't... REALLY HAPPENING!". Man I want GC VC!

A lot of people expected a ton of games from the disappointing 2012 conference too. There are reasons to think this will probably be different (they're used to HD, they're not diverting major resources to 3DS this time), just a reminder to temper the hype a bit. But I think Nintendo knows their back is against the wall and the Switch can't afford to fail.

Actually, even with a bad presentation the Wii U would still have had a decent start if everything came out as planned and a decent OS and VC were there at the start but, well, you know. :(

On the bright side, if they combined the disappointing 2012 conference with the epic January 2013 (and E3 2013) conferences, we'd be in for a mega treat. Same with 3DS if they showed more of the upcoming line-up or had a better lineup at launch to begin with.

I imagine that at least they'll announce 15 games even if a lot are ports with a couple stand outs. They do need to save some stuff for e3 or maybe even a March Direct so that might keep it from being as good as possible but we don't know what's coming to the system despite it coming out 2 months after the show

I personally don't see a Remaster of Fire Emblem 9&10 doing too well.

Unless they had user friendly options and speed up the game play. it also doesn't have marriages, Avatars, casual modes, grinding, and 10 is harder then all of Awakening and Birthright (except maybe Lunatic).

But at least they both have a better narrative structure. Even if the plot becomes convoluted at times, its easier to be engaged to it.

Just game me a Virtual Console release.

VC release would be great.

A remake that would try to shoehorn a Kris into the game would piss off purists and wouldn't do enough to attract new fans.

So, I know I'm going to get attacked because optimism for Nintendo isn't allowed, but I like what Take Two said. Also, I'm sure someone will say "but they said the same thing for Wii U!", which I'm sure happened.

“We’re happy that Take-two had the opportunity to collaborate with Nintendo on their first look video on Nintendo Switch which was revealed last month and will launch in March 2017. While we’re not confirming any specific titles this time, we’re pleased to announce our partnership with Nintendo, and support of the Nintendo Switch. We look forward to revealing specific games and details at a later date.”

I'm assuming he's talking about January 12. One game is definitely NBA. He said "games" so I'll take it at face value and look at it as he really means more than one game.

If I had to pick one more game I truly believe GTAV port will come to the Switch. They had it on PS3/4, Xbox 360 and X1. Now, they have a chance to sell it again on a system that's more powerful than last gen for sure and there's a portable aspect that can help sell this game.

Also, they made the highest rated game for the DS, which was a GTA game. Idk if they would have GTAV at launch, but man that would be crazy.

I think late ports are kind of toxic though. To really give the impression that your platform is supported, you need simultaneous releases, even if it ends up being an inferior version.

However I agree that the portability could justify the port. I just hope that the sales expectations aren't too high...

I know Matt said not to expect any changes with western party support and I agree with him as far as new future titles go. I don't see like Red Dead Redemption 2 coming or the new Mass Effect. Atleast, GTAV shows Nintendo can actually get a console GTA for once lol.

I'm hoping Nintendo atleast gets the yearly titles, but it may really need to succeed to even convince EA to bring the sports titles to it. I think EA might put the Garden Warfare (I think that's what it's called?) on the Switch.

Let's be realistic here: The time and money spent on a GTA5 port is probably better spent just releasing new GTA Online content.
As much as I like 3rd party support I honestly don't care about GTA on Switch since I already have it in my PS3 and PS4. I imagine a lot of people feel the same way.

For the record, I was talking about Battleborn.

That was obvious* and since no one *actually* gives a shit about Battleborn, myself included, I addressed the issue of a GTA5 port instead. We'll see. Portability could mean quite a few more copies sold, so who knows?
*Apologies if not apparent from my previous post.

I wouldn't be entirely sure. There are definitively some GTA enthusiast out there who would buy a Switch version just to play the game again on a plane. But probably that would be just a tiny minority. Well even though Skyrim is a Bethesda game, probably it would happen if the Remaster does well on Switch.

But I don't expect it either.

Yep. Honestly, I'm not concerned with Switch getting all of the big Western multiplats. I can play them on PS4 if it's a game I want. I'm interested in Switch for Nintendo games,Third Party collaborations (Hyrule Warriors, Bayonetta, etc...), and exclusives from their close partners (Atlus, Level 5, etc...). That's not to say I won't buy any Western multiplats if they release on Switch, and I know it's important for their image and for mainstream success, but personally it's not a huge factor or concern for me.

I'd like to see a whole new GTA game made for the Switch instead of a GTAV port. Something like Chinatown Wars, but full 3D.
This is a better idea, honestly. I just don't think any of these big western third party devs want to give Nintendo a chance by making a brand new game just for their system. They'll throw ports at them and see how they sell.

Nintendo need to make use of their IPs more

Some games they can make

F Zero sequel

Kid Icarus Action Adventure game similar to Darksiders, includes massive boss battles and on rails sections similar to Uprising.

Fire Emblem Warriors. We had Hyrule Warriors and I think it's time for another Nintendo IP to get the treatment. Then in the sequel they can make Hyrule X Fire Emblem Warriors.

Pokémon Red and Blue 2. Mainline Pokémon game on Consoles. Direct sequel to the original Red and Blue to pull in the the nostalgic fans as well as Go fans.

Metroid FPS. Non a sequel to Prime 3 but still should be similar with amazing graphics and first person view. They should also includ a Multiplayer mode that rivals the big shooters like Halo.

3D Donkey Kong. It's time for this IP to go full 3D as we haven't had something like this since 64. We have enough 2D Platformer from Nintendo and it's time to expand their 3D Platformers.

Mario 3D World Maker. Mario Maker sequel but uses the 3D World engine to make user created levels that are 3D.

Sheik. A new Zelda game staring Sheik. Nintendo's Stealth action adventure game.

Smash Karts. With Mario Kart 8 perfecting the Mario Kart series, all they need to do is treat it as a service and build on it with new tracks, characters and modes like Adventure and VS. However for the sequel to having more of the same they should do Smash Karts with Nintendo IP tracks, characters. Major system changes like KO system from Smash included, as well as completely new weapon pick ups such as Samus Ice Missile, make use of other IPs other than just Mario.

I'm sure the above games will

I thin kyou have your hopes up too high.

Most likely NBA and a quick and dirty port of a game that's already released on Shield TV which uses the same architecture so a game like Borderlands.

GTA5? You'll get your Battleborn port and you'll like it.

I dont think GTAV is that far fetched, the game is a mega seller, plus it was being worked on for WiiU, but Rockstar didnt want to deal with the tech issues to port it over due to WiiU's architect. Switch architect is closer to Xbox one PS4 so it should be an easy port.

I could see Rockstar and Take 2 throwing GTAV and NBA 2k17 on Switch

Considering the game is still near the top of the charts on the NPD after 3 years I doubt that, people will buy it again, def to play it on the go

Haha, no worries, I was just confused.
But I'm on the same page as you when it comes to GTAV.

GTAV is still making a ton of money and has a PS360 port so maybe? How did the PSP ports do? I'd imagine a portable GTAV might attract a lot of users
...but it's best not to expect Rockstar to jump on the system anytime soon

Is GTAV really "having hopes high", tbh? It's released on last gen hardware and current gen hardware. I would think the Switch is enticing because of the portable aspect for them.

GTA V would be huge, no doubt.

Imagine if Nintendo was brave enough to put some exclusive content in the game. Let Trevor wear a Mario hat or some shit. huge.

They could also make Bowsers car from Super Mario 3D World be in the game. I think Kimishima said they want to use their IP's more and they do it with Japanese games. They should do costumes and different things like that with big western games too. I would love to see a Waluigi character in GTA lol.

Yeah late ports aren't that good unless the game has massive legs like MineCraft.

...and GTA V.

While I don't think it would sell a billion copies or anything, portable GTA, that's the same as the console versions, isn't a hard-sell.

If Nintendo was really serious, they'd have Straight Right porting the game right now, with some small exclusive tacked on.

Outside of the fact that Nintendo is releasing their console in a period that isn't within the biggest holidays, consistentally having late 3rd party multiplat ports of games are bad(like 6 months and after especially). The vast majority of sales come from launch week to the first three months

Well, GTAV has pretty massive legs, selling 70 million units three year since release.

It would be interesting to know how many different people bought it. Seems people who bought it last gen on consoles, current gen and PC are not a big exception (they would probably buy a on the go switch version too).

It'll be pretty saturated now I imagine and why get a lower quality version when you probably already have it.

Do you think all the people buying GTAV are people that care about graphics? Casuals and kids parents buying it for them dont care about all the bells and whistles graphics, they see GTA and get it, its not gonna be a China town wars, its still gonna be a 3D GTA game, even the PSP GTA games sold great. Besides that the game isnt gonna be some low level looking game, it will be simlair to XBox one GTAV but still way above PS3 version

Just to re-live my childhood of games I loved and games I Always whished I would have played:

Switch with "dolphin" support, aka GC and Wii titles in HD would sell the system for me. Why is it so hard for Nintendo to do this when other people can do it? I just dont understand it, at all

I don't think it's hard for them. It's more like they really don't care about it.
Except for Wii, the Virtual Console service always has felt like an afterthought. The bare minimum effort. Also, all the teams behind the different emulators have been historically small. There's no team 100% commited to the VC iirc, making stuff like bump resolution a no go.

I personally hope NERD is involved with Switch's VC. What they did with NES Classic was just amazing.

Forget your Mario Kart 8 port! Nintendo will officially announce this in that presentation!

Get hyped everybody!!

Developer allready said no.

I thought they said it's not currently in development?

If Blizzard are ever going to port something to the Switch, it's gonna be Hearthstone. If the Switch does good numbers, it's expect a port fairly sharpish.

Nintendo wants to make it good enough. "Fan" emulators generally make some kind of compromises, Nintendo has to make everything perfect (in their own, sometimes silly way).

Many of you say that Nintendo should just make decent enough emulator and you'd buy the games. I doubt it. There is a huge difference in playing ok emulator for free and expecting certain value from bought product.

Speaking about GTA, I'd want Vice City and San Andreas, the high points in franchise (and they run even on toasters nowadays, ports wouldn't be hard or need lots of work). Toss in Gta 1 and 2 too, great games. IV and V are so lackluster, I just can't fathom how they can be so popular. They take all the fun out of earlier games. And Trevor is in no way fun character.

But people like those new games, so if there's a market... But first and foremost they should release the earlier ones. Aren't they on Android too? I mean, that makes porting even easier, right?

Add WaveRace and Excite Truck/Bike and we're talking.

I don't really expect R* to really pay much attention to Switch, but a 3D GTA would be a better test than Manhunt lol
Hey, don't forget... Table Tennis!

"Here are some games we should have released on Wii and forgot. Sorry." I guess I wouldn't be surprised to see those at some point since they have been rereleased both for consoles and mobile devices, but doing those and not GTAV would be pretty silly.
