Nintendo Switch Previews are coming in

There is nothing in the game boxes except for the game card, but you can link your physical game to your My Nintendo account via the game's options (-/+ on the main screen when selecting the game > My Nintendo Rewards Program (or something like that, I'm translating from French)).

Thanks for this! Honestly, that's a really smart approach. Club Nintendo was a little too easy to exploit by having physical codes. I had a friend who worked at Gamestop and used to pull them out of used copies all the time.

Fucking hell this whole activity log thing is being blown way out of proportion.

People are disappointed it's not there. Not outraged. No one is cancelling pre-orders over it. It's just a small part of the larger discussion.

Good lord.

Yeah. I don't get the goal of shouting down criticisms. Best case, Nintendo responds and fixes them. Worst case, ???

Whatever. 1 2 Switch looks awesome to anyone who doesn't just play the same generic games over and over again. I like video games to be unique and social, the best Wii U games were the 4 player party games.

Not sure what you mean by "generic games," but I'm a fan of WarioWare, Animal Crossing, etc...

I think 1, 2, Switch looks bad.

Write an actual hardware review going over key features and important questions? Like, how do Bluetooth headphones work?

Nah just harp on the shit we already knew the entire time. Controversy = Clicks.

How can we have a discussion with you if this is how you react to anything negative?

Remember when everyone thought the Switch would be released Holiday of last year? Can't imagine what it would look like if it did.

The idea that this is a soft-launch of the Switch and the "real" launch is Holiday 2017 is seeming more and more likely.

I honestly think that's a pretty decent idea. Launch when demand is likely the lowest. Units will most likely sell out anyway, since limited availability + new tech.

Then by November, the supply is ample and the switch will have a library that includes main-line entries in four of the biggest Nintendo franchises while still being "new" tech.

The better question here is how come none of these reviews mention Bluetooth headphones? Like if I had a Switch my review would actually be in depth and not just cry for paragraphs about the lack of Netflix

Yeah, I heard there's not option for them now (somewhere in this thread, I'm feeling lazy tho). Nintendo has outright said it's possible, so I hope it's sooner rather than later.

I'm considering getting Apple Airpods so I can look like a tool.

let's all be honest here... this is a Zelda: Breath of the Wild-definitive-edition-that-requires-a-$300-accessory-launch.

I've come to terms with it.

If you can't see the WarioWare in 1 2 Switch you must not have been paying very close attention. It's Wii Sports + WarioWare + Mario Party. Gonna be stupid fun at parties.

Activity log is neat, and i look it up pretty often, but it's really THAT big of an issue if it's not in at launch? Lmao

Talking about priorities

Yes, it's a big deal. Particularly without a trophy system or any form of meta tracking whatsover. Every competing platform and even current Nintendo systems has one or both of those things for a reason. "lmao" all you wish.

The whole "not at launch" part seems like a disingenuous defence as well considering the feature was present for both the 3DS and Wii U at launch and Nintendo have not stated it would be added later. There's no reason to presume this or any other feature will be added later.

Guess you missed the reactions to bad shots from a compressed trailer upscaled from 900p to 1080p then.

Anyway, if they offer the possibility to take and upload screenshots, they need to do it right. Native internal resolution and at least let me save them on a usb device to upload wherever i want.

I agree, it's literally free advertising, Nintendo would be foolish not to ensure the best quality images are being shared.

The review embargo isn't over yet... These are just previews.

These threads will be bickering until the system hits and the excitement actually happens.
I will be complaining about a lack of an Activity Log and achievements until they are added or until Nintendo's next console is announced. The excitement will arrive, but my problems are so ingrained that I won't ever let them go.

I've complained about the 3DS and Wii U not having achievements and the Wii U having a disappointing Activity Log for as long as those systems were announced and shown to not have those features. And will do so even when their successors hit the scene.

Dismissing the lack of a specific feature in isolation is beside the point, a bit. There's a "death of a thousand cuts" effect happening here.

If it were ONLY the Activity Log missing no one would care. If it were ONLY missing VC then you could say that well whatever, most consoles haven't launched with one. If it were ONLY missing a browser you could say well it's not immediately necessary. If it were ONLY missing Netflix etc. etc.

But once you have two or three "minor" features missing, every additional issue or missing feature is amplified.
I see it this way. There's lots of "oh"s with the hardware announcement with everyone's different priorities hitting in different spots.

For example I don't care at all about VC, but I care about achievements and activity log, so I'm not pleased for different reasons than others.

But at least no VC means there's plenty of time for people to buy an NES and hunt the games down PHYSICALLY :p

I like Activity Logs and all but you may have a problem if you spent 17hours in it lol.
I don't know if there's any hidden option but I don't see how it's that hard to know by yourself what game you played the most/least...
Why it's so important ?

Yea defense seems a little crazy here. Though this is launch season always happens.

Is the fan noise mentioned anywhere? That's one thing that concerns me as the system has a very small fan...

I really think you need to take a deep breath or two.

Not feeling the title screen for Breath of the Wild. It looks like something you'd use for a demo preview. I was thinking it would be showing the landscapes or Link riding his horse.

Exactly how I see it.

Sad thing is that I'm such a hopeless Zelda fan that I'd gladly have paid that were it launching in my country, which it isn't.

But the fact that I'm being forced to wait is probably a very good thing. As MHWilliams said, this feels like they're rushing this out the door to appease investors who were told the system was coming this FY.

Seriously. Thread is hard to read.

At the same time people are "all launches are bad," people are losing it over people pointing out the ways, in which this launch is bad.

I really think the amount of lol-Switch shitposting is incredibly low in this thread. I'm pretty much just seeing SwitchGAF in here. It is just concerned consumers.

One, these aren't reviews.

Two, there are no options in the current OS for Bluetooth anything.

Three, shut down the console warrior nonsense. This is your warning.

Yeah I can agree with this. Mixing the "character art on generic background" with art like the one on the boxart also seems weird. It should have just been the box art with some quiet Piano music or something playing in the background.

There's is nothing in the system's setting that suggests that that function is available.

I thought these were reviews, my bad.

It shows off the joycons well, but the game itself looks like a bad version of WarioWare without the charm.
So was Wii Party U and that game is great at parties. Amiibo Festival and Mario Party U are also great despite their shortcomings. If the parties I host have fun with those games, 1 2 Switch will be a blast.

This makes sense if you only think WarioWare is a mini-game collection

It's Twitter...

Posting: "Lol look at this silly thing that happened in Zelda" won't get you responses saying: "wtf, 720p??? ur a total pleb bro"

I promise you that.

Most of those pc masterrace guys have always given ninty a pass tbh. You always saw them saying Wii U plus PC was the way to go.

I had to go back to my 3DS and check if I had an Activity log .. didn't even use it. And, GAF is just a really small part of the gaming world.. I can understand why people can be bothered without having it, but I bet majority doesn't even care.

Anyone involved in marketing will tell you this line of thinking is your biggest mistake. It's not that people are stupid. It's that people don't want to think when purchasing any entertainment or recreational product. If you are missing one the industry's standard feature, however minuscule, it will affect your product. Apple is probably the only exception to this rule and that's largely because they have an outstanding and courageous marketing team. The rest simply aren't as lucky.

The only thing Nintendo has adversited for the Switch is games. And people know Nintendo make games. The standard feature is games.

For launch this strategy has worked. They appear to have a plan to add more features by the time their online infrastructure rolls out in the fall. By then they will have a lot more software available that appeals to be a wider audience, which is what they will need to do for Holiday sales.

The same Nintendo that dropped the 3DS price by $80 after half a year.

The 3DS was poor hardware out of the gate. Terrible screens, plasticky, slow, 3D was total ass and gave some (me) headaches. I was a day one owner of the DS and my first hands-on impression of the 3DS put me off from buying one for almost 3 years.

The Switch is barebones when it comes to apps for the time being, but the hardware itself is reported to be very good quality.

I understand the concern some have with the system lacking in apps at launch. I personally don't care about a browser or Netflix/Hulu/Youtube on day one, and I especially don't care about an activity log, achievements, Streetpass, Miis, or Miiverse. The only feature I miss is the Virtual Console.

This is pretty much a soft launch before a big marketing push for the holiday season. Get the core in early, then in 6-8 months do a big marketing push with Zelda, Mario Kart, Mario and Splatoon at the forefront. Show NBA 2K18 and Skyrim in the ads as well. If they keep stock up, they'll probably sell a healthy number of units. Especially with Black Friday deals. Without core fans sniping stock as it comes in. IMO it's pretty smart.

By then hopefully the OS/online features will be more fleshed out, too.

As someone getting this thing for Zelda and to have a nifty new gadget, I'm not too bothered by a lack of features. I hope they come eventually, but it's clear Nintendo's goal was to just get this thing out and in the hands of core fans. Their next big "beat" for sales will hit in the fall, and it'll feel more like a fleshed out console around that time.

I'm also not bothered because I need to find time for Mass Effect: Andromeda, Persona 5 and Nier Automata.
