so how is the actual online capabilities?

can you connect with anyone in the world? Is there ever any lag?

just wondering.. since this is also how Rev's online will be..

I've experienced very little lag and I've played Mario Kart with people from Japan.
Animal Crossing has a little lag sometimes. Like, I'll go to open adoor or dig a hole and it will delay because the connection isn't so hot.

mario lag is handled quite well, but my connection sucks and when someone is snaking like hell (which is always) some people appear to teleport a bit. It's very playable though, only one time ever out of about 180 games has a person got a magic teleport win against me.

Currently very mixed:

1) excellent online play with no lag to speak of

2) no actualy service or amenites

3) I hate the friends code nonsense

Number 1 overshadows the other two so far but I'd like some kind of service to grow from this.

Stop whining about friend codes and realize the benefit it brings to online play. And if you can't realize it on your own, give the service another couple years for examples to be provided for you.

Benefits like?

You should have just one friend code. And you should be able to add anybody you play with. It's that simple. I don't mind the fact the DS is simple, because it's a handheld and I don't fucking care. I just hope Revolution has a better system, that's a bit less restrictive.

Stop being an apologist and realize that some people prefer not to be "protected" by Nintendo.

I have no problem with Friend Codes, I only wish there was an easier means of transfering them.

NFC should have a search feature were you can look for people who share your same interests/same age/same location/etc and you can send a request for their friend code and they can either confirm or deny it.

Not being able to trade codes through WFC itself and having to resort to other means is really limiting the online service.

Lag is extremely low in Mario Kart, and I live in Sweden and almost always play against US and asian players. I suspect that the servers measures the lag when setting up the games.

The Unified Pederestian World Comunity is laying down, criying "nintendo take out that friend's code shit".

I think, yeah, there should be the posibility of choice on the user part: be private or public (under parental control).

This should fix the problem?

The service is nice but it still has a long ways to go. I'm sure it'll improve eventually.

a) Adding anyone to your buddy list on the fly
b) Chat in lobbies before game time (MP: H is somewhat doing this)
c) Create game settings on the fly however you want with said games

Basic functionality like that is needed for this service so I don't have to continually wince at this. But Mario Kart online is still all loads of fun though...

Chances are good, since there is an age-control system in revolution (like in X360 and PS3 too). So I hope that unlocks several possibilities.

I'm happy that we have at least something like the friend code system. You can play your friends. Could be even worse.

That's Nintendo should've done if they really wanted this to work best for everyone. If not a universal friends' list accessible from any DS you use WFC on, at least made it so that each DS only generates one friend code.

People said that they couldn't just use one Friend Code because getting online with the DS is done through the software, and not the hardware.

But I don't get how they couldn't just use the MAC address of the DS?
