Nintendogs DS : 22 New screens...

I just don't really see what's appealing about it. It just seems like a glorified tamagotchi thing with a touch screen. I love my DS and all, but unless I'm missing something here, it will be Nintendogless.

Expected no less, this game spawned a 7+ page thread. Why? No real reason really, it went no where twice and only ended on a decent discussion on the definition of games, from what I remember.

As much as I dislike siding with Nintendo fans, I don't understand the big uproar about this game. I mean, it's certainly no less deep that something like, say, Animal Crossing.

;)

If itÂ’s any consolation thisÂ’ll attract girls to gaming rightÂ…..? Â….They like puppies right?

Being a guy and looking at this game gives me a better understanding of what it might be like to be a female looking at any FPS Â….

“You mean… You just point and click on the ‘enemy’ until he disappears? …. I’ll pass…”

"So I just poke him with this pen thing... and he barks? Uh, n-no thanks..."

Heh

To be fair, Drinky hates Animal Crossing too. As do I. With a passion, in fact :P

But yeah, I'll leave my hatemongering to other threads this time. I'm too tired to argue about this crap.

I don't exactly hate it...I mean, I can see it's charm. I just think it would've worked much better as a Flash game distributed free over the internet.

Ya sure?

And if it had the Barbie license. "Decorate the house! Do tedious chores! Form mindless, shallow relationships with other automatons!"

Too bad Vivendi-Universal has a lock on Barbie games...

To be honest, I could see the Animal Crossing concept working... it's just there would have to be so many changes to the gameplay that they might as well call it a different name.

I certainly see where animal crossing, harvest moon and this game can be appealing. Not everyone is interesting in carjacking and killing hookers.

I for one enjoy suddenly switching from fragging people online in Halo 2 to chatting it up with my neighbors in Animal Crossing.

And man, I can't believe this thread gathered together so many people that don't understand that opinions differ.

Yes because the reason Animal Crossing isn't appealing to people is because it doesn't have carjacking or killing hookers.

This doesn't look as good as AC. AC is charming beyond it's kid packaging if you play with it just a bit. This looks like a naked stab at sacharine cuteness...the Hallmark quality of death. I think those fawning over it can be mocked beyond it's lack of firearms. It's gross in a whole different way. And I'm a uber dog person.

I said nothing of the sort.

Please don't fallaciously negate my posts.

He was obviously speaking in generalities.

I'm well aware, but my point was that it did nothing to serve his post because the generality probably doesn't even come close to assessing appropriately why a lot of people so ferociously reject/accept Animal Crossing.

What you implied here, through a generalization, was that people who like Animal Crossing like it because they are not interested in "carjacking and killing hookers." I accidentally posted the opposite implication in my post, but the same exact thing applies. ACs "charms" (if you feel it has charms) aren't lack of hookers/carjacking and that's not its appeal. And those who dislike AC don't dislike it because it lacks hookers/carjacking.

It's a rather silly statement, imho.

The trick is walking out of a game store with something like Animal Crossing, something like KOTOR, and the carjacking/hooker game. That's variety.

Fix'd for accuracy and quality ;)

Saying that they don't see the appeal in a puppy dog sim =/= ignorance towards differing opinions

You know that, Blink.

Or am I?

Don't think about that one, it will make me feel bad.

That's a lengthy indictment of your own utterance.

I said two things, in essence:

1)Some people like the open ended interactivity of games such as Animal Crossing.

2)Some people aren't fond of games that involve gratuitously violent errands.

Both statements are perfectly defensible particulary since I happen to sit right at the intersection. (And no, I also didn't say games like AC are the only ones I enjoy.)

Furthermore, generalization is exactly what I did NOT do.

To quote myself:

"I certainly see where [...] Animal Crossing CAN be appealing"

"NOT EVERYONE is interested in [...] "

Now, YOU went and added a connective (the word because; which is certainly in my vocabulary if I intended to say it) and constructed the contrapositive and claimed that I said it.

THAT, sir, is the definition of a strawman.

strawman: a weak or sham argument set up to be easily refuted

You rightfully condemn your own creation.

I couldn't really defend Puppy Times as I'll only be picking it up if it's in the bargain bin.

Then again, Nintendo could surprise us with a very fun product.

I have no intention of buying it either Suite Pee. It's not worth the money for me. However, I'd surely try it if given the chance. I certainly can't HATE it AND refuse to see how anyone could like it AND feel compelled to spam any thread in which it is mentioned. That's just idiotic. :/

I apologize if I gathered the wrong conclusions from your statement. However, it still doesn't make sense why you would even say those two statements unless you were intentionally trying to imply these things, or trying to start an argument.

Why mention hookers/carjacking as the opposite to Animal Crossing's open-endedness? You say you understand why some people like Animal Crossing. And then in the very next sentence you say "Not everyone likes carjacking/killing hookers." To me this feels very much like you're implying that the majority of the alternatives involve carjacking/killing hookers and that the majority of people who flock to AC are those who aren't fond of those two activities.

Now, you claim I'm making the wrong conclusion - which is possible and if so I apologize - but what was the reason for that statement then? I honestly can't determine any other way I should interpret it.

Amirox:

Probably you're spoiling for an argument that's why you interpreted my statement the way you did. ;)

It's nothing but an expression of my own preferences as a counterweight to the boisterous contrary opinions that must accompany these threads. Why the reference to GTA? Well, it's a very popular game (probably a phenomenon), that is nonetheless disliked by some. On the other hand, Nintendogs/AC MAY be boring to many, but compelling to others. (Note that the those that like AC and GTA aren't necessarily disjoint)

Games such as AC aren't destroying the industry, they're (at the very least) catering to a niche that exists. Why does anyone even imply that games shouldn't be made for those that don't fancy the mainstream offerings or those that do but are willing to try something different? My father, for example, was playing alot of Sim City 3000 but he never showed much interest in playing the more twitch oriented games that dominate consoles, violence or not.

My fundamental point, in a two sentence post that required two subsequent posts of explanation, was that preferences differ. That which is insanely popular will have those that don't like it and less popular things will have its fans. It's a point that shouldn't even need to be made.

Anyway, thanks for admitting a mistake rather than continuing to claim I said what I didn't. I suspect there are many people who would have continued propping up that strawman.

Peace.

I'm willing to admit when I'm wrong. Obviously, in this case, I was wrong. Thanks for taking the time out to explain what you meant (you certainly didn't have to), as the final point you make is much more intelligible than what I determined out of your statement. So now that it's through, I apologize one last time and all's well :)

I have a movie with Nintendogs in it, and it looks pretty cool. The puppies look and act so realistic. The animation is fantastic. If it has some variety, length and challenge, it could be worthwhile.

What do you do in it?

What's with the white fog in the background of the living room? It can't possibly be a technical limitation, can it?!

It went everywhere from saying that playing NINTENDOGS will be a chick magnet to the fact that Drinky thinks Animal Crossing isn't a game to a huge debate about the definition of gaming.

huh? i played animal crossing almost every day for a year... sometimes before GTA, sometimes after... sometimes before and after!!! sometimes, i'd stop playing GTA to catch a timed event...

i'd also like to point out that i have no interest whatsoever in nintendogs...

Yeaaaaaaaahh... except the whole animal yelling back snide comments at you because it's learning new things based on what you said part.

Instead it's replaced with "ROLL OVER!"
