Amirox:
Probably you're spoiling for an argument that's why you interpreted my statement the way you did.
It's nothing but an expression of my own preferences as a counterweight to the boisterous contrary opinions that must accompany these threads. Why the reference to GTA? Well, it's a very popular game (probably a phenomenon), that is nonetheless disliked by some. On the other hand, Nintendogs/AC MAY be boring to many, but compelling to others. (Note that the those that like AC and GTA aren't necessarily disjoint)
Games such as AC aren't destroying the industry, they're (at the very least) catering to a niche that exists. Why does anyone even imply that games shouldn't be made for those that don't fancy the mainstream offerings or those that do but are willing to try something different? My father, for example, was playing alot of Sim City 3000 but he never showed much interest in playing the more twitch oriented games that dominate consoles, violence or not.
My fundamental point, in a two sentence post that required two subsequent posts of explanation, was that preferences differ. That which is insanely popular will have those that don't like it and less popular things will have its fans. It's a point that shouldn't even need to be made.
Anyway, thanks for admitting a mistake rather than continuing to claim I said what I didn't. I suspect there are many people who would have continued propping up that strawman.
Peace.
