No live stream for Microsoft Gamescom media briefing

Phil Spencer on Major Nelson podcast

"Most of the time will be spent with the press getting time with the developers and their games. You should think about this as a room with a lot of hands-on.”

“The nice thing about the way the showcase is shaping up is people at home will have access to it. Streaming is probably not the way to do it because it will be like watching a party that you’re not at,” Spencer said, adding, “So what we’re going to do is, throughout the day, we’re going to take video snippets from the floor and release them on the Xbox Wire.

As Phil Spencer said last week, we’re hosting an small invite only media event on Tuesday, 20 August where we’ll share some news and give media a chance to experience gaming on Xbox One first hand. There is no live stream, but I’ll be posting the news here on my blog and on Twitter using #Xboxgamescom .
Keep an eye on Xbox Wire as well.

So it's like E3.

Okay, sounds good....

Does not compute. Totally at odds with his previous statement of access to the people at home for the showcase.

It's easier to avoid booing if your not being broadcasted live in a large conference/the internet's all seeing eyes.

But in all seriousness....I see this as a huge mistake on MS part if they had any chance of swaying some PS4/fringe console buyers. But hey, maybe they just want a stranglehold on the distribution of information?

That sweet sweet spin. Please don't act like you're doing us a favor by not streaming your event. That's some ridiculous logic.

Why live stream in the US would be while people are sleeping. They said they are going to release videos the same day,

aka "better not livestream when we say stuff people probably won't like because that REALLY didn't work out well the last few times".

How is this fucking guy the vice president again, exactly?

Isn't there conference taking place before the Sony conference? I feel like this is there way to make sure they can kill some Sony momentum. After people get hyped watching Sony's event, MS will release the highlights of their conference, to keep their brand in the consumer's mind, as the 'last laugh'. It's a nice strategy, but the reasoning behind the lack of streaming is so transparent and pathetic.
