I presume the loss is limited to 'hard' assets - that their software is backed up somewhere safe etc. Still crappy.

That's a real kick in the balls, especially for such a small team like them.

Seriously.
It would be awesome if Sony stepped up and funded these guys.

I see comments like this a lot lately in regards to indie funding and I can only wonder, what would happen if Activision stepped up and funded them? Or Hell, Dennis Dyack decides to help by offering a few million (likely from the canadian government because you know... Dyack is poor). keep in mind, hypothetically, Hello Games retains creative control. Do you ultimately decide "well, It was a nice idea, but now its screwed.. only Sony could have saved this game"
Seriously.

Yeah right. You don't make your living creating and selling digital goods without taking proper precautions.Ouch hope they made appropriate backups of everything and took copies of those backups of site. I bet they didn't though no one ever does until you need it.

I mentioned Sony because Sony has a history of stepping up and funding small teams and projects like this one while still giving the developer a massive amount of freedom.
I don't care who funds them as long as i get to play the game.
Seriously.

Sony is definitely not the first studio I think of when it comes to a history of stepping up and funding small indies is my point.
It's Christmas Eve.If they had it backed up wouldn't have they said so by now ?

Why does Sony or some other big name publisher need to save the game? No Man's Sky would pull all kinds of money from crowd sourcing, especially after what just happened to them. People will donate who aren't even interested in the game just because they'll feel bad for them.
Yes, in an era where publishers are becoming increasingly marginalized in regards to niche/downloadable games, there are lots of alternatives that will allow Hello Games to have money while maintaining complete autonomy over their game and IP. Selling the rights of what could essentially be their DayZ or Amnesia (i.e independence for life) is a worst case scenario.
This news really needs its own thread.
Someone should set up an indiegogo or something for some charity donations to these guys to get them back up and running.
A good idea. I would first like to learn what their immediate needs, etc. What is covered by their insurance for their place and equipment. Like will they have to work out a new office they have to rent?
*ahem*Yeah right. You don't make your living creating and selling digital goods without taking proper precautions.
Yikes, that's a reminder that I should find a good remote backup site.
I was just looking for more news on this game and found this article: https://www.gameinformer.com/b/news...-s-insurance-won-39-t-cover-recent-flood.aspxThat's really sad story to hear.
So I was checking twitter and it sounds like a pretty insane case an hello games, a river bank broke and he said it was so biblical water was coming through the windows. O.O
The bright side of the lack of insurance, according to Hello games, is that it can re-enter the building to begin the recovery process on all of its equipment without having to wait for an insurer to come look.
