No Man's Sky: Foundation Update (v1.1)

It's not a Photo Mode, it's a HUD toggle.
Yeah, and bad at doing this. It's not even removing the suit's glass so it still has this weird shader on top of the picture.

Not to mention you need to press4 (FOUR) times to turn off the hud.

Why can't I press some button on the controler?!

Looks like a nice, substantial update. Good on them for sticking with the game and improving it in the face of an onslaught of harassment and personal attacks.

I forgot trees don't sway in the wind in this lol.

There are TONS of improvements in this update, a lot of smaller things that you just notice as you play.

They're off to a really great start of the games future with this update.

Damn, that's harsh.
No problem starting over, this is the game where you've seen it all after 2 hours, according to some people.

/joke ;)

Seriously though I'm definitely continuing my 100+ hour save on Normal. Might start over with survival after finishing the game.

Oh and, Hello Games has totally redeemed themselves with this update imo. This is how you do free updates. Awesome.

I didn't really care about the game either way but it's interesting to see so many people on here and on the YouTube comments said how what's Hello Games did was "unforgivable" and they should be shut down and their name has been tarnished forever and how the game was the biggest waste of money they ever spent and they wanted the advertising standards agency to sue Hello Games for mispresentation.

Then... a trailer and a 1.1 update and people are singing praises about Hello games should be respected etc. I think it's the perfect metaphor for a baby crying until it gets its bottle.

Hope the game is good either way.

Different people. I will not buy a game from them period.

Check out my base NeoGAF!

Just walked through a small gathering of about 30 animals. Never seen that many at once. Frame rate dropped quite a bit though. (PS4)

Man, if all the updates are this substantial we could be watching one hell of a redemption arc here.

I'm certainly more interested in the game now. Might have even bought it if I wasn't currently swamped, but by the time I get around to it may well be even better.

People referred to Sean as Molyneux 2.0 and the game as Spore 2.0 before the game even launched. Sean (and the team) have pretty much been in a lose lose situation since the start.

You say that like those things aren't true or the criticism isn't warranted. I'm absolutely floored people are willing to forgive Hello Games for this type of stuff when GAF gets up in arms over pretty much every major transgression.

Exactly what I expected from the patch. GG, Hello.

Still technically patching the holes in the boat long after it's sunk, but I think it's worth going back for another pass, perhaps.

The problem with NMS was that it was all foundation and little gameplay. This update double downs on that flawed formula. Would have been more optimistic about the future of the game if the first update had worked on making flying or combat more fun.

NMS is the reverse of another flawed yet much more popular game at release, Destiny. Destiny had the fun gameplay down but little else. As it turns out, if you give gamers something fun to do that can hold them over until you build a world to match. Give the gamers an expansive world, but with nothing fun to do in it, and you just have a dull boring game.

If the video preview is anything to go off of, that is a substantial update that brings the game in line with what I think HG and the public had in mind. One wonders if this was a post-release response, or was already in place at the start (certainly not the UI improvements). Game is like 20 bucks on Amazon; with these improvements it'd probably worth a first look (and possible second look for returning players).

Hopefully this puts an end to all the people accusing Hello Games of taking their money and running.

Update looks sizeable, and the intent to produce a lot more is encouraging.

damn that actually looks good. a lot of great changes and additions. there is still a lot of room for improvement though. if they stick to their word of many more updates to come then i might just end up buying the game after all.

a lot of people won't be happy about that though. gives them less reason to hate on Hello Games. well done to them. they could've gave up but they believe in their game and seem to be committed to improving it. they could've done a lot of things better for sure. i can't wait to see where this game ends up. they might just be able to turn it around.

There is gameplay. Gameplay that YOU don't enjoy is not the same as a lack of gameplay.

Loved the game before and was totally worth double dipping (pc and ps4) super excited they are going to keep adding. I find it rare that a game is worth my attention, and this game certainly is (despite what other people thought).

Glad I no longer have to mine manually! Now we just need land vehicles, and some updates to the biomes/animals

There's a difference between criticism and outright trashing of people who've clearly reached far, fallen a bit short and still kept going. 99% of people bitching have no idea how much sweat and tears a relatively small group of people have put in to make this game. Yes they could have handled their comms a lot better but I'd wager that marketing and PR people had a bigger say in how NMS was handled than the people actually building it. The amount of grief they've gotten would be enough for a lot of people to say "fuck it" and not bother carrying on trying to get to where they want the game to be. It's really easy to criticise people when you haven't been in the trenches of software development.

I read that they removed the melee/ jet pack trick ? Is that true , will make exploring such a chore.

I don't think that's true, I saw a stream post-update and the dude did the melee jump to his ship in front of his base.

The melee jump was my favourite thing about traversing . . . I really hope they didn't patch it out.

They did make changed to flying and combat. When you're flying in your ship, if you're turning and apply the brake, you'll do a drift and turn faster. That's a big improvement. Also they said that when you successfully defend a freighter from attack they'll reward you somehow. And there's now a 'survival' component which ups the difficulty or something.

And remember this is the 'Foundation Update.' It's the start of things to come. Given the past few months regarding this game, did you really expect them to address all of your concerns in the first update? No, right? Well, they're making progress. And really, this game probably isn't for you, honestly.

Is base building available in all three modes?

Yes it is.

The baby analogy is spot on and yeah these kind of events really bring out the worst people out there, the Driveclub launch mishap is another example.

Not saying that HG didn't make mistakes along the way but it wasn't like they wouldn't have the chance to redeem themselves, still the amount of vitriol spewed out for a $60 purchase makes you reflect on those people real life behaviour and mentality.

I will wait a little longer (hoping for Pro Patch and more content) before going back but it's nice to see that HG is still on board with this game. Keep it coming guys and garls

I haven't played this game in a while, but did this receive a graphical upgrade? it looks alot better or is it just that I'm playing on the Pro and a 4k TV which upscales, or maybe it's just Placebo.

Gameplay loop still looks incredibly boring to me, but i fully expected them to take their money and run, so kudos for sticking it out and improving the product
