No Man's Sky: Foundation Update (v1.1)

This sounds great. I'm looking forward to get back in the game and try this improvements. They could have done nothing after the rage storm that followed the game's release, the damage was already done; but they chose to move forward, fix some of the issues and add more value... and for free; I praise the effort.

I'm in full agreement. There's no forgiveness without contrition. All I want to see is an acknowledgment that they made mistakes. I'm ready to forgive them, but they don't seem ready to apologize. For anything.

Yeah, I'm perfectly willing to accept an apology or at least acknowledgement that they screwed the pooch on this. Pretending it didn't happen and refusing to acknowledge it just leaves this disgusting taste in my mouth.

It's not a percentage thing, and that would be impossible to pin down anyway with the constantly moving goalposts during development. There's no multiplayer obviously, but beyond that the smell test of "does this feel like proper space exploration?" is much closer. Much more depth now.

So less than 10% then.

My best guess is that this is a legal issue. That is, if they come forward and apologize for setting false expectations, they create open-shut cases for false advertising and perhaps related class action claims.

This would mean, of course, that they did screw people, and they don't want to deal with the real consequences that would create.

Pretty cool update. If the next two or three are as substantial as this, I can really see myself going back to it and playing for a long time.

This is a big update and a step in the right direction for Hello Games. Keep it up! My son had fun building a base this morning and I welcome the addition of a creative mode.

What is really impressive to me though is all the people that are still hanging on to all this anger and are continuing to shit on the game regardless of what they do.

Get over it! If they are going to make improvements can we let them without shitting on them every step of the way?

Damn was hoping for "Support for PS4 Pro added" slipped in there somewhere

Looks like a great update, I'll definitely be jumping back in to see what kinda stuff I can do in Survival

"If you could have lived our lives"

oh get it over it you overselling shrill. Next time don't run a prerelease campaign of pure chaff and then release what was a relatively polished indie early access title at $60.

You lied your way to a fortune. No one will make the same mistake with one of your titles again.

Calm down.

Loaded up a previous save in Normal and after discovering a lush new planet, game crashed and that mode won't reload without crashing. PS4 version. Anyone else with that issue?

People picking on the tweet now? Desperate to remain outraged over something.

Is this how you deal with people that don't agree with your perspective on a topic? Try to segment them into shitty groups in some hope to belittle their stance? It is a terrible tactic to take.

I don't have an issue with mentioning that their approach has been poor. I have an issue that even after this time we still need to beat this dead horse.

Feel free to claim I can't read your content and that Im trolling if that helps.

This guy been trolling NMS threads since the beginning. I agree with many of his points, but completely turned off by his attitude. His constant need to drop the "I'm a dev" line as if it carries much weight around here, and the way he talks down to so many of y'all. Add another annoyed (mostly) lurker to the list. I'd never touch one of his products.

Asking for reconciliation and future support/faith without admission, acknowledgement, contrition and apology doesn't work. That's like...relationships 101. Until you see that, you'll continue to see these sorts of reactions. Sorry you don't get to act like the last 3 months didn't happen and neither do they. Your memory may conveniently be that short, but not everyone is required to join you.

These guys are such damn troopers, they deserve respect for knuckling down and improving their game under a hailstorm of daily Internet hate. NMS is still one of my most chilled experiences of the year, I'll def. be jumping back in to check out the new stuff when FFXV is done.

Love and Respect to Sean and the HG team.

Lol. I'm sure the bags of money helped comfort them.

That is one hell of patch, I can see myself re-buying this game in 2 years. Base building is cool but exploration still needs a lot more variety. Finding the same shelters on every planet got boring.

This game came out at a really bad time for me, so all I could do is look at my copy on the shelf and watch the internet rip this game apart. I didn't follow it's development too closely, it looked like a chill game where you could explore some neat looking places and that's all I was really anticipating.

This update seems insanely cool though. There's a lot in those patch notes that is right up my alley. With the big time off holiday incoming, I'm looking forward to sitting down with this for the first time.

So that's all it takes to basically reverse GAF's opinion towards this scandal and unnacceptable release?

hmmm...

Nah. It's just after 4 pages of patch notes and a bunch of cool new features, you can't really harp on silence and HG running away with money never touching the game again. This is a good start but they need to build on it and keep it coming. I'll probably get started on creative mode later. I want to see how this thing looks in 4K.

Game hard crashed on me on PS4 when I was about 3 minutes from my ship in Survival mode.

The challenge is real.

lol

Besides that how much does Survival change things up? Is it just basically like being on an extreme planet all the time? The patch notes are extensive but only one line on Survival.

This is actually a lot more than I expected. Very cool and will jump in again, I already liked what I played and the game is gorgeous at 4K in a unique way on my PC, looking forward to checking out more planets and hopefully the new algorithms do actually make cooler ones.

I hope they have aspirations to keep up updates similar to this since they call it version 1.1 I hope they can at least get to 2.0, maybe bring back the big space battles we saw in trailers next since they brought in freighters as something more in this one. This game could really grow into something special.

The continued outrage for this game is out of control. The game didnt live up to expectations and was oversold a little. Upon release i played for a good 12 hours or so and realized the gameplay loop wasnt doing it for me so i sold it for like $45 so including my amazon discount it probably cost me $15 for a few week rental. All these people make it seem like the game was tattooed to there forehead and nothing will remove it. If its not for you move on and stop pre ordering games or always buy physical so the ability to resell exists if you dont like it.

Option A: They communicate non-stop while working on patch. Community response: "Why aren't you guys working on the patch instead of talking here!" I've seen gamers actually tell a game studio's Twitter PR team to 'get the hell off the internet and go patch the game', as if the Twitter team has anything to do with it.

Option B: They go silent, and work on the patch. Community: "Why aren't they talking to us!"

Let's face it, there was no right or wrong here, any choice would have resulted in a bitter community lashback. It was a no-win situation. Now that the patch is out, the lack of comms is rendered moot - the patch speaks for itself. Hindsight is easy to use to make an argument, but it doesn't change the now. Inconsolable gamers are inconsolable no matter what.

Who asked fore them to communicate non-stop?

First and foremost, they should have apologised for the product they released compared to what they advertised.

Secondly, a few written updates on how progression is coming along, before announcing the update and then releasing it.

Update looks neat but... what about exploration? Cool, I can go back and forth between my base and freighter and build upon it, but what about exploring planets? Will they ever address how bland and boring that is?

Excellent. Been waiting for this update to jump back in. No Man's Sky has a great "foundation" (hhehehe) but the game needed more to do and more complex systems. Can't wait to see what they add in the future. I hope they make the creatures look better because I'm seeing way too many brown four legged monsters that look way too similar.

...I'd love for it to be a success story and to turn out good.
I'm sorry, I don't believe this at all. Because these are quotes from you only 10 days ago:

I'm sad for you guys I'd you are expecting content updates. Please don't do this to yourselves. 😑
There will never be a content update.
It's not gonna happen. If you expect a content update you are not living in reality.
LOL at anyone thinking there are going to be content updates.

Not only were you completely confident and utterly wrong, you were literally laughing at people who hoped the game would be improved.

It's clear your statements can be trusted exactly as much as Sean Murray's. I do believe this one is true, though:
You can't just say shit. What you say matters.

At this point, actions speak louder than words. So any apology or contrition written or said doesn't really matter to me, just make the game better.

They seem to be following that strategy and to that end I am grateful as someone who enjoyed the game but wanted more.

The entitled won't hear this. Probably attack you even. With that said, I agree with you 100%

I don't see them asking for any of those things in that tweet.

Get exposed. That was satisfying to read.

I assume you have to find the plans for them. I've already found some new plans at bases where pre 1.1 patch "You already have this item." was all i saw for weeks.

Meanwhile I still get only blueprints I already have from those crashed pods. They were even labeled as "new" despite the fact I have them installed (by me) in my ship :/
