No Man's Sky: Foundation Update (v1.1)

The way they rolled this out, people are gonna be discovering stuff they havent made obvious. Patch notes eludes to new things in a vague way when it comes to resources, items, equipment etc. Looking forward to new things.

Also I need like one of those pro 1-hr youtube videos delving into the details of the update etc.

So far I really like the changes. But was so hoping for them to change the walking speed. It is so damn slow for an exploring game.

Game with TAA certainly looks better than with FXAA.

My game keeps crashing to desktop after selecting a mode. :(

Any help?

Go to the game's folder, then GAMEDATA and delete SHADERCACHE folder there. Launch the game and let it recompile all the shaders again.

Maybe sometime in the distant future No Man's Sky will be a great game worthy of its purchase price, after Hello Games updates it a million times to make it the game everyone expected it to be when it released in August.

I'm sorry, I don't believe this at all. Because these are quotes from you only 10 days ago:

Not only were you completely confident and utterly wrong, you were literally laughing at people who hoped the game would be improved.

It's clear your statements can be trusted exactly as much as Sean Murray's. I do believe this one is true, though:
Amazing

Haven't played since release, should I just start a new game?

For the record, I remember watching a video prior to release where Sean said you would not see anyone if they were right in front of you. So to me, his past statements came back to haunt him.

Really enjoying the patch so far. It suffers a bit from the odd railroading that was in the base game (I recruited a builder before the game decided it was time to do so, and now I'm stuck with that tutorial objective popup every few minutes), but overall it feels like there's a point to hoarding resources now.

I still don't quite understand base building on a planet but they've sold that weird choice by allowing freighter building, so win win there. Might rebuy this, if I have time between Division and WoW and FFXV and TF2 and Dishonored 2.

Wow this looks awesome. Despite the issues I had a great time with the base game and I was really hoping they'd get the chance to build and improve on their baby. Well done Hello Games.

Well as i understand it, you can teleport from any space station in the universe to your base. Don't know if you can go back to where you were though.

Thanks for helping me out.

There's no folder by that name on my GAMEDATA folder. I bought it on gog, not sure if that makes any difference.

HAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!

I cannot believe how quickly we're returning to the belief that HG is somehow hiding all sorts of cool shit for people to "discover."

The only thing you're likely to discover is that tacking on a bunch of shallow gameplay elements isn't going to make this game any better.

First of all, I'm impressed with the scale of this update. I can't wait to find a planet to begin building on.

Second of all, I'm impressed with the positivity in this thread. I was expecting the usual NMS vitriol hate train to be rolling through here, but after reading quite a few posts of praise, I had to check the URL to make sure I was still on NeoGAF.

And thirdly, I need my wife to finish her Gilmore Girls marathon, so I can try out this update.

I mean, that's jobbs for you. He was pretty vocal about how horrible he thinks HG/sean murray is etc. and was trolling people who said that a patch would come.

That's a nice patch.
Pretty obvious that most of this was in the works before the game shipped but was pushed back to meet the date rather than delay again, as opposed to being reactionary.

Which makes me extremely curious where they go next, given all the "feedback" since launch.

I think it's safe to say, some people can be ignored when they talk about NMS now, because they're literally just hate-posting without rational or reason, and the evidence is right there for all to see.

EDIT: Also, what's with the sudden barrage of junior members coming out of the woodwork, all going "omg sheeple wake up NMS still blows". It's like the Steam Forums in here.

Btw some of this stuff in this patch they promise will come after launch
Next up we’re adding the ability to build bases and own giant space freighters. Temporal AA and my new cloud rendering tech should be coming soon too. It will really change the game again, and enhance it visua

Glad to see it.

Actually feels like an accomplishment to get off the starting planet in survival now. Then you land and see you have to refill the entirety of the launch booster to lift off again and disappointment/rage ensues. Lol.

Genuinely surprised with how substantial of an update this seems to be. Hopefully things calm down for them PR-wise. If they can turn this around, that'll be a helluva story...

I'm not sure if I'm just imagining it but is anybody else thinking that the've added new audio channels? I'm hearing lots of things that I think are new as I play it.

While I don't think this will get me back into the game, because it's simply not for me, this is an impressive patch. I can't imagine the work it took to do this in a few months.

there are a whole bunch of new sfx and visual changes that werent mentioned in the video. Like i said i think with this update they are over-delivering on how they are selling it, probably a direct result of past lessons learned.

My only fault is they could of added a "how to" to the update page. "Press this button to access this or do that" if you know what I mean.

I was disappointed in this game but I still kept it, which says something at least. Hopefully future updates give us more to do in terms of purpose, fun, gameplay.

Any performance improvements on PC? I still dislike the fact that i cant run it in 4k(or anything close to that) at 60 fps given it renders absolutely nothing impressive on screen.

I have a feeling that the end product this game will be is going to be a great, exceptionally fun experience.

Hope the best for them and look forward to what they do with the game. I really do think in a years time this is going to be a stellar (hue) game.

This guy been trolling NMS threads since the beginning. I agree with many of his points, but completely turned off by his attitude. His constant need to drop the "I'm a dev" line as if it carries much weight around here, and the way he talks down to so many of y'all. Add another annoyed (mostly) lurker to the list. I'd never touch one of his products.
I actually haven't been harping on HG or NMS from the beginning. I was actually excited early on then tempered my expectations before release and was on the fence. I didn't jump on HG until the game was released and my concerns were manifested during and after release. I didn't hop on the "but what do you do" bandwagon since I took a wait and see approach. After release, I started to voice my concern and not nearly to the same level as some with threats, class action lawsuits (lol), etc. I voiced my concern only on what became tangible enough to do so - namely consumer advocacy.

As for weight - I have none, but do feel compelled to speak up as a dev as HG is in my group of peers, something I want to make sure that plenty of us don't stand for the garbage they spewed as we don't feel what they did was right. Again, advocating for the consumer.

I'll also call people out who choose to pull single sentences from what I write and spin them away from the context of the entire post in an effort to counter what I say in an attempt to put words in my mouth. I even asked for legit arguments against my points in context and even asked for them in PMs but nobody wants to argue against them when they get called out - so we wind up with posts like yours and the one you quoted. If you're not going to argue my points and provide a better, more salient argument - don't respond.

In short: pay attention. I'm not the guy calling for their heads like so many others - I'm the guy calling for them to address the actual concerns of consumers and stop playing the victim card. Don't confuse that with stalking their offices, calling for lawsuits and leveling threats.

If addressing actual consumer complaints is a problem and you are Ok with developers hand-waving their mistakes when they've already got your money - that's fine, but don't be under the illusion that it's the right thing to do because it's not and don't hate on people who believe in accountability. I don't believe in hand-waving away concerns.

Im actually most interested in how survival mode plays out. One of the issues with the game was it was just too easy after a while and lost a bit of the 'game' element because of it. If survival has all the same features as the other modes but you really have to work for stuff now, i could see that being a big improvement.

Yeah, I think after a few more of these big content updates, the game could be close to their original vision. I hope they can deliver.

I have avoided NMS treads like the plague, for obvious reasons as someone who enjoys the game.

Give it time, and I think we'll all be pleasantly surprised at how they've made the game infinitely more fun and infinitely more playable than what we have. At the VERY least, this is a great first step.
