No Man's Sky: Foundation Update (v1.1)

Was there a workaround for the loss of objectives if you redeem pre-order ship before learning the hyperspace recipes? Seem to have run into it.

I'm sorry, but they promised base building and freighters immediately after they released the game. Of course the first big update won't fix the main problems with the game -- they promised another content. What people are expecting? They should've forget about base building and add multiplayer or what?

Multiplayer wouldn't work unless you shared resources, I think people were surprised when it turned out to not be a pew pew game but rather survival driven.

To be honest, I think most of us aren't really THAT concerned. Vocal minority and all that.
And you don't have to be. That's the best part. I'm not shitting on anyone who is having a good time. I'm shitting on people who go out of their way to take me out of context, make up lies about my post history with NMS and call me out for wanting accountability.

None of my posts should be any concern if you like the game because none of those posts are my concern. I've maintained the same request for accountability forever but I'm treated like the whack-jobs that call for their heads on a platter. It's not hard to tell the difference but it is hard to act accordingly and not lump salient arguments advocating for consumers in with the trash - I get it - but I won't back down when I'm taken out of context, ask for clarification and then they back off all the while continuing the attacks. Literally 90% of my arguments here are because people aren't reading the whole post or only responding to one or two sentences without context to what I was saying in the rest of my posts.

But, again, I don't go after anyone who likes the game for liking the game, I'm going after HG and the hardcore don't like it or they are revisionists or they just don't care about all of the main concerns but somehow, they don't like it when people speak up about accountability.

With that, I'll be out since nobody actually wants to discuss WHY any accountability is a bad thing and instead come at me like I'm asking for everything but.

Sorry guys, can someone quickly answer the following?

Vanilla save, does it work on all 3 modes? Transferable?

New trophies?

Creative mode - is it a god mode? Everything unlocked? No need for fuel, thermal protection? Essentially no need for any resource? All ship upgrades, weapon upgrades .... everything is unlocked ? Can't die ?

Vanilla save only works on Normal mode.

I have 26 hours until I can play FFXV, so going to give this another shot, downloading now. Is the base building only in creative mode?

Surprised at how easily the game launched to be honest, back when it first released it would always crash the first time I booted it up.

That was fixed in one of the first patches. Regardless, there are instructions on various sites on how to deal with it and get the recipes you need.

What's the difference between the modes? I get that Survival is much harder, is that in a separately seeded galaxy or what? Would be kinda weird to have two people on the same planet but one is just cruising by. And what about Normal versus Creative? Can I still build bases in the Normal mode? I don't want to start over :/

You can build a base in all modes. No restart needed.

Update is kinda pointless to me if to use most of the cool new features you have to grind for resources for hours...

It's stuff to do though. Before it was grind resources to get a weapon or upgrade to grind more resources and it was literally an infinite loop. Downloading now and I just watched the trailer the base building stuff looks great,I'm gonna start a new game and do some survival mode.

You typed a wall of text to refute something only in your mind.

Get help.

Is this how you always engage in conversation? When you can't make a counter-argument, you call the other person crazy? Apparently a few lines = wall of text lmfao.

You just stated that multiplayer was one of the two core problems in the game.

And yes, a lot of critics complain about no multiplayer. Have you forgotten how much use this gif received since day 1 of release?

The lack of multiplayer is a problem, but what I'm saying is that the larger issue with the game is that there is no real gameplay objective or purpose. There is nothing actually happening in NMS's universe to give the player a reason to play the game apart from gathering resources (which isn't fun) and now building stuff (seems cool, but after you've built your bases and freighters there's nothing you can do with them except to look at or throw more resources into their storage)

I agree and it's a great update. But if I understand correctly, people here are still mad because of broken promises and expect that devs will react after 2-3 months. That's not how this works.

Ideally, they wouldn't have to "react" at all because everything they promised would have been in the game at launch. I'm glad the update seems to be substantial and think the outrage was a bit much, but come on.

Oh this is a lot bigger than I expected, and sounds like they address the concerns with mixing base-building and exploring, and survival mode should go someway towards addressing the lack of any tension. I look forward to trying it out later in the day.

The inclusion of a Creative mode is good but, in my opinion, the new building features are not nearly (not yet, at least) deep or fleshed out enough to be fun on their own.

There are a gazillion other survival builders that do 'building' much better.
MOving_goalposts.jpg

That's not , like not at all the point of my reply

The point was that you'd have to grind to try the new stuff and it's certainly not true.

Other game does building better ? Yeah and ? was that supposed to be a criticism of NMS ? Nobody was talking about that.

This update actually looks pretty good. Would definitely increase my interest if it was on Xbox. Add like a huge combat update and MP update and this might be the game for me.

Haven't played enough to see how much content was added, but it definitely looks and plays a lot smoother on PC, the TAA goes a long way in improving the image quality.

The thing is they added and improve much more then that.

For me, they either need to apologize about certain features not making it in, or they need to announce a patch that will allow us to see other players, and do all of the other things that were mentioned regarding multiplayer interactions.

Survival is just not fun lol. Too many problems with the base game to support it at the moment. That and every other planet is a high security aggressive sentinel world. Which means there's always a sentinel on your dick as you try to gather.

We know , but a vocal minority Want to bring this issue in their eyes to the light in every NMS , even in one dedicated to a new patch with plenty of content.

With that, I'll be out since nobody actually wants to discuss WHY any accountability is a bad thing and instead come at me like I'm asking for everything but.

Yeah yeah , it's everyone else fault.
Accountability in a thread dedicated to a patch improving a game made by the devs .
Perfect place to discuss about that.

Seems like a pretty beefy update all things considered; and kudos to them for sticking with the game ( even though as developers of said game they should do it anyway). Nonetheless; I'm not seeing how this brings people back into the fold really; the gameplay loop is still the same shallow loop it has always been; no multiplayer or sharing of bases; in the grand scheme of things who is going to see it or the freighter?

Sucks when you have to defend yourself when people take what you say, pick it apart and use it against you because of some agenda, doesnt it.

Survival is a bitch. Im stuck looking for zinc on my ship and extreme cold means im constantly dying.

Survival mode sounds challenging. Creative mode sounds fun as hell.

I’m hoping there’s a way to swap back and forth? There is only one save file for this game isn’t there? I kinda dropped it after a few weeks, don’t remember how the saving system worked.

Wait, they decreased the proportion of lifeless planets? There weren't any lifeless ones to begin with! Unless plant life doesn't count as life.

Is it too hard to want to find just a rock, without those stupid clamshell rocks or without plants? Let me mine carbon out of some rocks or something if you're worried about me being an idiot and stranding myself.

There were lifeless planets. Moons, mainly.

But yeah, they were already super rare.

Terrain is way improved. Found a planet with actual canyons and rivers.
Yeah they did alot with that.

Terrain

  • Improved terrain generation algorithms
  • Improved and extended blend areas between different terrain noise types
  • Terrains now generate more open spaces
  • Smaller features now appear at nearer lods to improve visuals in the distance
  • Fixed objects being placed on incorrect terrain material types
  • Improved resolution of distant planet terrain
  • Decreased differences between planet as seen from space and actual planet terrain
  • Fixed seams on planets when seen from space
  • Improvements to terrain material selection and terrain material blending
  • Terrain generation priority and cost calculation improvements
  • Fixed terrain generation angle calculations, which would previously prevent nearest region being generated first
  • We now generate caves on lower terrain lods to decrease visual differences in lower detail terrain
  • Introduced more varied and vibrant colouring to terrain for each biome
  • Decreased frequency of brown terrain colour selections
  • Changed texture scales to improve transition between terrain lods
  • Improved terrain colour combinations to add variety and better match terrain contouring
  • Improved terrain texture blending method to better retain vibrant colours
  • Improved settings for hue, saturation and value noise variation on terrain
  • Fixed a number of issues causing holes to be seen in the planet terrain
  • Fixed occasional crash when mining terrain

So I'm hoping on the next update they can address the following things

Better weather effects and storms

Giant unique creatures like the sandworm (the lifeform algorithm needs tweaking anyway)

Ringed planets

These were things talked about before release

If they can find a way to tweak space combat to make it more fun then they're doing pretty good. I know some people care about multiplayer, but other than some sort of Dark Souls like player ghosting, or maybe something like journey, I really don't care to interact with anyone directly.

What is it about this game that has turned some people into raging crazy people?

As someone who a) did not follow development of the game and b) has never played it (only bought it on Friday), I think it's obvious Murray misrepresented the game. That's not acceptable and they have a lot of work to do in rebuilding the trust they had with their community.

But that's it. If you don't like the game or them, just move on already. What is the point of having the same argument about the misrepresentation of this game when it is so clearly factual in every thread about this game? They can basically never repair the trust they destroyed through patches (or rather it would take a lot more than six months, and even then people will still not be satisfied). I don't understand what people want besides Murray to go on twitter and beg for forgiveness.

Jesus you are always on a mission to be aggressive, and its always somebody elses fault. Take a chill pill you will give yourself high blood pressure.

These people don't want anything, they were raised by animals.

Look at them. As if anything justifies this behaviour. And all over a video game.

Looks great, but I have no desire to go back to this game. If I hadn't already put so much time into this game, I might me more apt to jump back in. 50 hours of flying about and getting ticked off when crashed ships are one less slot than what I have already was not a great experience.

I think there's a deep desire to be "right" / morally superior, even when the game's been out for months, and anyone interested in it now has all of the information they need to be an informed consumer regarding what is and isn't in the game.

It'll be interesting to hear what you and others think, who are getting into it as more content appears, at (presumably) a lower-than-release price point.

100% agree. I followed the game pre launch and bought it on ps4 and pc (silly me some might say) but I bought into the idea and the technology. I was quite alarmed by the disparity between what was promised and what was delivered, but I thought they did deliver on the technology aspect (it has potential). I actually am not angry about the situation because i asked myself: do I really think they set out to deceive and rob people, and I honestly don't think they did, so I'm willing to wait and give them another chance/more time. I guess some people will say this makes me "stupid".
