No Man's Sky: Foundation Update (v1.1)

I mean a company literally lied about their product, its kind of alarming how easily you toss that aside and put it on the buyer.

As MK mentioned, this isn't a new or even rare thing. I'm not excusing it here, it's terribly dodgy practice, but with arguments like this you're letting countless other businesses and studios off the hook which isn't just.

For instance, in interviews with Rockstar staff (possibly even Houser) the year before GTA V came out, they said the game had the Chinatown Wars drug system. They didn't label it that but they described a system just like it. It was literally the feature i was most hyped about. They said you could buy drugs, resell them in neighborhoods that had demand, look out for random special deals, move from corner shopping to international trade... Then the game comes out and the feature isn't there. Not a hint of it. I literally went back and found the magazine, the very line, where they straight up said it's in the game.

And that's just one example, from a bigger game than NMS. This happens all the time. NMS was a title with a disproportionate amount of focus on it as well as an eye-catchingly ambitious concept, so i guess people scrutinised a lot more. (Their pr was insanely misleading and problematic, not downplaying that.)

Might jump in if they add PS4 Pro support.

They actually added quite a bit without pro support,no to mention the motion blur and the new AA.

That burden shouldn't be shouldered by the gamers. They'really perfectly within their rights to preorder or get hyped based off pre-release information. The industry has worked like that for decades. It does not excuse a literal bait and switch from the developers.

I'm not excusing bait and switch, I'm just saying that if you fall for it then you have no-one to blame but yourself.

How the fuck do i find zinc for the love of god this survival i think is broken.
They adjusted resource distribution even on normal mode, no longer do you find abundant resources everywhere.

Survival mode is no joke because of this, at least at the start.

In order to survive better at the start, seek out caves to rest in and recover your hazard protection for free while travelling.

They don't flow or anything like that, same water just the terrain generation carves out shapes of rivers now.
It did that before too.

I just wish they would make multiple versions of the common plants like Thamium9 plants and Platinum plants, so that we don't see the same exact looking plants on every planet...
If they did that, you'd have to memorize what every plant gave, or scan them all. The patch notes indicate they increased variety by adding new plant types instead.

Loving the ability to purchase my own freighter. Now to find the most aesthetically pleasing one.

I impulse bought one... wish I'd shopped around a bit first. This update is really great. If the game has regular updates like this I will be playing it for years.

I wanna find this one again, loved the design:

I repeat : can we change between normal, creative and survival in the fly?
No, I believe each mode has a different save.

Survival mode is seriously, seriously hardcore. Definitely difficult and quite luck based.

Hazards aren't an issue but life support is. Even if you get back to your ship, without Thamium9 or a Power Gel, you are screwed. You literally need to walk and use the jetpack/running only when absolutely necessary. I couldn't do it on my planet. Just getting the ship off ground will be a massive achievement.

Even if Sean Murray should be lynched in the town square, OK, fine. Would that make you happy? The idea that constantly trawling through NMS threads shitting on every potential piece of news could serve as some vanguard against people lying in the gaming industry is the only thing with less perspective than people saying "[big name game] is a 1/10, worst game I have ever played in my life" in every thread.

How does that work? Are there actually missions and objectives to complete?

the mechanics in the game aren't designed well enough to warrant the survival mode. on a poison planet where it rains, certain ceilings don't actually provide cover

Just to be clear because it seam there is a lot of confusion.

The three save mode are about ruleset that govern the gameplay.

Base building and freighter are in all three modes !

I never saw anything that looked like a river before, although I didn't put that much time into the game.

And they could still have the plants keep the color scheme, just have different models at least. Same with plutonium deposits and such, they used to use cylindrical shaped models before, they could just add those and some new ones back in, just for more variety.

I hope they improve the NPC's in bases and freighters so that they all don't just stand around doing the same exact thing. Let them walk around, inspect stuff, conversate, etc. They really need to add more "life" to things.

Last week, I had finally reached a point where I regretted not selling the game earlier.

Now I am very glad that I didn't.

Looking forward to this and I hope they continue to build on it in the future.

I've noticed that when talking to aliens that can be hired for the base, we can understand them perfectly, but all the pre-patch aliens still require us to figure it out and learn the language. This seems a bit of an oversight, or an issue to fix at least. If we don't know any of the alien languages, how would we know we could hire them for our base?

Hope that gets fixed.

EDIT: Perhaps there should be a new alien to hire - a translator. Someone whom has learned all the alien languages.

Well I've never seen that before.. went to a temple and there was a Gek carved statue head lying on the altar..

kinda liked it... was that in before the FU patch?

Yup, was definitely there pre-patch. Found a couple of them in my travels.

started again on normal mode.. my starting planet is laden with gold.. in fact you can scan the planets from orbit and it will tell you what the most prominent resources are..
Thank goodness!

Just hoping it's not as hard to find Chrysonite as it was before. That was such a pain pre-patch.

No but you don't spawn right next to your broken ship and have a 8-15min walk to it. And materials are more scarce. In essence, you have to battle whatever hazard is eating away at you, keeping an eye on life support and praying you will run into Zinc, Heridium and Thamium9 along the way. And caves. If you die due to life support failure and have litle to none of the necessary materials to repair your ship, it's basically permadeath. Ruthless as fuck.

Is there any way to reset your survival save file without affecting your normal/creative saves. What if you get spawned on the planet from hell and can't escape, is survival mode forever off the cards??

Shit, seriously? So no planets loaded with cubes or gold?
I meant stuff like zinc, plutonium, thamium9, at least in the couple planets i've been on they have been noticeably more scarce.

You can erase the save, it's R3 with gamepad when hovering over the save.

I liked what the game was before.i love what the game is slowly turning into. I feel like i could easily sink another 80 hours into this survival mode.

Yeah you can reset any of the three save files without it affecting the other two. You do it on the starting screen when you select which save file you wanna play.

It would've been so smart, to be putting out information about this update over the lat few months.

Unfortunately the leadership at Hello Games isn't smart.

Survival is hard, but it's not that bad. You lose your units and everything on you when you die, but not what's on your ship. Since you can send things to your ship instantly, you can just do suicide runs stocking up on the essentials and sending them to your ship before you die. After 5 or 6 runs, I had enough mats to get to the heridium deposit safely and get my ship operational.

But then it turned out the next 2 planets I got to were also freezing snow planets, and it stared to get a little tiring.

I feel like there's new music in the game and that the 65daysofstatic stuff has been toned down. Is it just me?

There is a huge amount of music in the game and it's super contextual/systemic whether you hear it or not. Very high chance you just happened not to hear that stuff.

Didn't they just add a feature to give you more info on a planet from orbital scan? Probably a necessity on Survival!

If you wouldn't mind.

I remember it starting with GTA IV, where reviewers had to go to Rockstar's offices to spend a few hours on it, then produce a review of a game which would normally take far longer to fully evaluate.

Sega Europe did something similar in the early 90s after review copies of their games started getting shared online. UK magazines refused to co-operate and stopped giving review scores to Sega's games. The practice stopped not long after.

Review outlets did co-operate with Rockstar, and gave scores for GTAIV, which has resulted in similar practices (such as review embargoes whilst the games are already available in countries where street dates aren't observed) continuing to this day. We could really do with an independent outlet who buys their own games (ahead of release) and aren't beholden to any publisher embargoes.

Lol.

A lot of "too little too late" peeps getting served a steaming heap of crow. It's not even their biggest update apparently. The real fun comes when it finds success when they launch the fully featured 'No Man's Sky Prime' around Scorpio launch 😂

$19.99 on Amazon right now. I bought it at launch and quickly traded it in, but wondering if at that price and the Foundation Update if this is the time to jump back in?

Yeah maybe it's the hellscapes in survival I haven't spent much time on in Normal mode.

Oh yeah, I can just picture it now. Every new tidbit of information that gets released bombarded by the same old accusations and the same old vitriol.

So smart.

Announcing the update and releasing it two days later was by far the smartest thing they could have done, and they did it.

the improvements in addition to the new stuff seem great.

Maybe I'll pick the game up in the future on some sale when I have less stuff to play. I might wait for the next round of updates to see how they improve the game.

Thanks. I can't remember if we always had multiple save files.

Before the update you had two save states, current & previous, but only one save slot so it always loaded your latest save. The first time you launch the game after the update it asks which mode you want to start and Normal mode has the date of your last save. Each mode has their own save slot with two saves i imagine. I continued my Normal save with a mind to dabble in Creative after a while so i don't know about the other two modes.

Once you have a freighter, can you own multiple smaller ships?

You can have only one of those at any time ( only one )
-Freighter
-Ship
-Base

No multiples , no duplicates.

COnsidering that freighters have multiples entry points sometimes , it might change in another update

As much as I would have preferred them to be more open, I actually don't think it would have been smart to talk about update features given the climate surrounding the game.

I haven't tried it yet, but I really love the idea of Survival Mode being basically an open world roguelike.

But..they did? They said in early August in the 1.03 update notes that they were working on base building, owning freighters, temporal AA, and new cloud tech (don't know if the clouds made it in). It's just that the bombastic ragestorm sort of dwarfed that. Sean also said in one of his tweets today that he didn't want to talk about new features until he was 100% sure they'd make it in. Which is totally fair given the blowback he's received.

I've been on a freighter when other ships have docked so multiple bays allows you to trade with other ships outside of the space stations. I have wondered if that will be part of a larger trading mechanism but it might be because your freighter is classed as a space station of sorts. Marking cargo slots so they can be traded when you're away from the freighter could be a handy source of credits or exotics.
