Mafia: The Old Country – 9 Minutes of Exclusive Gameplay | IGN First

JRPGs might have different gameplay mechanics between each other.
Shooters might have different gameplay mechanics like how Ultrakill has nothing at all to do with DUSK, for example.
Souls games all have different level design and challenges, you never know what's ahead of you when you start one of those games.

This Mafia game, at least judging by that trailer, has the most run of the mill gameplay I've already seen in a hundred games since the PS3 days with 0 originality. Imo the only thing the game has going for it is the setting and maybe the writing if it manages to be as good as the first game.

Also fuck off with the "I know you're better than that", way to disregard someone else's opinion.

I have 0 interest in that game. Maybe when they show some gameplay but nah, I bet it'll be the same as it's ever been just with prettier graphics.
Thats a lot of mights but the reality is youve played the samey jrpgs, samey shooters, samey tps, samey souls games for ages so saying mafia game is same as before is redundant. Might as well dismiss thousands of high quality indies then. Outside of very few creative indie games, aa and aaa games have no uniqueness in their gameplay mechanics. What more did you want in a Mafia game? If its base mechanics are solid then itll be a good game.

I'll play it when it's cheap, but even as someone who's been looking forward to it I feel kinda disappointed. It looks a bit rough and a little clunkier than I expected, and it's coming out next month already so there's not much time to polish it. Hoping for the story, music and atmosphere to really hit.

Watching the shooting scene in the trailer and the 7:20 part in the gameplay video gave me a good laugh .

Yeah, some stuff definitely looked better in the previous trailer. This is a shame, because that wasn't even that long ago. You'd think it would only improve over it in later footage. Can't lie, I'm disappointed.

The game looks cheap because it is cheap, it's a AA people.
To me it looks on par with Mafia Remake, if the story is decent then I'm sold. I wish we had more games like that every year.

Was really hoping for this one to be decent, but I must admit, this looks bad. Hopefully they realize and give it another year or two of dev time, it needs it.

I get where you're coming from, it was a very underwhelming trailer when it comes to gameplay. To be honest formulaic TPS games dosnt excactly fill me with hype. I'm hanging my hopes on that it'll deliver an awesome old-country Mafia story. Would be so cool if I could get an interactive Godfather experience.

But I do really hope they have a bit more to show/impress me with gameplay wise. 🤞

For 30 Euros it looks like a nice good singleplayer experience, I really enjoyed Mafia 3 and Mafia 1 Remake which looks really amazing graphics wise

This very much 2007 style Uncharted type game….its much more focus on cinematic than deep gameplay.

First two games made by Vavra are legitimate classics and far from mid. Hangar 13 just don't have it in them.
Mafia 3's story and acting was also pretty fucking great, it has some of the best acting in the whole franchise imo, too bad H13 decided to bloat the game with shite Ubisoft style slop.
There's a mod that lets you pretty much remove the grind and it honestly becomes a very fun, story-centric, little game. Almost like a Punisher game set in the 60s.

Looks fine, not doing anything new or exciting though. Was a bit suspicious at the lower price and now I kinda see why. This is probably a low 80's game at best

Never played this series but jesus, that was boring and formulaic. Rock hard pass.

Downloaded the "no damage racket mod", which works on all but 4 missions. Like you said it streamlines the other remaining 14 missions considerably.

Probably going to skip the optional missions, and just focus on story missions and DLC missions.

Love the shotgun. It's so totally overkill.

What's the point of driving a car if there's absolutely nothing happening on the road? No other cars, no people, they even had to cut to black with "LATER" to not spoil how incredibly boring it is.

Pretty much love all of the Mafia games but I do hope this open world has some more meat on its bones and doesn't just serve as window dressing.

Its funny, I just came out of the gaming budgets have doubled going from PS4 to PS5 thread and many people in there advocate for people to not demand ever and ever increasing graphical demands with less and less visible upgrades that justify the additional expenditure and making game development unfeasible for many studios. Then you go in here and have a somewhat mid tier game that tries to work within a limited budget while still creating a believable world and everyone goes apeshit about some blurry textures and not super duper realistic facial animations.

Oh well. I like the setting and the series, probably will give it a try at some point, I think it looks really cool.

I find the setting unappealing. Other than that, it looks ok.
I'm actually the opposite, I find setting and time period very appealing but just don't care for it's entire uncharted style gameplay loop it's going for.

I thought that this game isn't going to be open-world?
Hmm that's also fine then (like the original 2 games) but I do hope downtime is kept to a minimum then. No need to drive endlessly if there's frick all to do anyway. Gimme that fast travel boiiiiiiiii.

Solid showcase of gameplay options and flow. Nothing groundbreaking, but it looks like an alright fun time nevertheless.

No he's right. Your tag checks out amazingly.

Every soulslike offers a different kind of challenge (bloodborne enemies don't fight like ds enemies). Every JRPG has completely different fighting mechanics. And lets not forget how both genres has an order of magnitude different level of depth compared to your standard shitty TPS cover shooter.

This game looks like the exact same stealth action TPS i've been playing since 2015. Very lame and boring. Not to mention its going to be so easy it won't engage me at all. Pathetic.

Funny how you guys picked this game to complain about gameplay innovation. A smaller budget, 50 bucks multiplatform Mafia game from Hangar 13.
You should redirect this energy to this generation's big budget AAA games who have all the money and time and deliver same slop.

Exactly, at least this Mafia is going to a new location which we havent really had before, looks pretty nice and they could have easily charged 80 euros for it like ubishit but at least they have reasonable pricing, not sure why people complain about a good nice singleplayer story game
