Really? Haha wtf, that thread should be closed.

Yes, one guy had NAT problems and couldn't connect to PSN. When he did connect he was getting randomly disconnected. They also posted a screenshot of what looked like a similar planet but one guy was in daylight whilst for the other guy it was night time, and they still expected to be able to see each other. It was so dumb.

I think a lot of people didn't take notice of server status yesterday that appears at the bottom of the options screen. Mine was 50/50 connected. It's hard to know what was accurate.

My online connection seemed to be based on what planet I was on. Home planet fine, space station limited, new discovered planet none.

Yes, and they didn't meet up.
Sean Murray pretty much lays it out that the servers are absolutely swamped right now. Half the time I pause the game it's disconnecting and reconnecting to the servers.

Has anyone stopped to think that might be the issue? He acknowledged players meeting up, he also tweeted about there being an option to scan a system for players. There's something there but the launch is severely crowded right now and the servers are barely working. How about instead of immediately piking someone's head we wait and see what happens when the servers are stable and we see more instances of players crossing paths.

People are so quick to call devs liars and so quick to call fans delusional, gullible, stupid, etc. It's fucking sickening already.

Murray:

"Two players finding each other on a stream in the first day - that has blown my mind. We added a 'scan for other players' in the Galactic Map to try to encourage this happening. We wanted it to happen - but the first day? We want people to be aware they are in a shared universe. We added online features, and some Easter Eggs to create cool moments. We hope to see those happening... but too many of you are playing right now. More than we could have predicted. It is a testament to how amazing our network coders are that Discoveries are still working at all."

I just think jumping to any sort of conclusion is ill advised right now.

Yes. Anyway. I had one of the greatest gaming experiences I've ever had yesterday. The scope and scale, the adventure of being alone in space.

This is what I wanted Mass Effect to be. It's what I wanted Elite to be when I was a kid.

I can't wait to play more.

Game get!

My first planet is a cool -25C frozen world. No signs of animal life so far, though there are trees and plants.

My spawn camp is sat right in the middle of a deep crater which is cool.

I'm going to love this game. Goodbye life.

Anyway let's just leave all this for those in the other thread. No point discussing it in the OT.

I was about to say this.

Please people, keep all that noise in the other thread. Please.

I totally wouldn't mind having my starting planet be a barren wasteland full of death to be honest.

The struggle to get off and survive would be challenging and fun ^_^

No they wernt and the game dorsnt even require PS+ so that's completely irrelevant. Anyway let's just leave all this for those in the other thread. No point discussing it in the OT.

I'm all about not discussing it here but do not mislead people. They were connected fully. Furthermore, someone analyzed the pocket data and no player location is ever transmitted.

So unless you can show me where you read or saw that there was ANY sort of connection issue then it didn't happen.

"Can see you see other players?" "Yes."

"Can you play with your friends?" "Yes."

Stop kidding yourself, these things were said and they're not there.

Maybe we should wait for clarification instead of raging down the interwebs?

What if just the server load on launch day was too high? What if they weren't in the same instance?

This rage and blame culture is what I hate about "Gamers". There is a big fuss going around because 2 dudes didn't see each other and instead of asking why, the peasants pick up torch and pickfork and go on a very childish rampage.

Maybe we should just wait until we have a real confirmation of things. Until then, we should just keep cool.

You might want to re-read his statement, he never actually acknowledged that they tried to meet, also he mentioned something about player locations but the packet data includes no player positions....So the lies continue.

Anyways, I have to admit the screens look great. Just don't like the shady way the dev is communicating.

bad gameplay lol
A lot of people seem to have a problem with the inventory system in NMS. And I agree that it is a problem in the early game, but once you start getting further in, it's much less of an issue. Here's some tips to deal with it (spoilered because I have no idea what people consider spoilers anymore):

-Item stacks in your ship's inventory are twice the size of stacks in your exosuit inventory. So two full stacks of iron (250) in your exosuit will only be one stack (500) when transferred to your ship.

-Exosuit upgrades that increase your storage capacity aren't that hard to find. When you find a beacon out in the world and get a choice of four things to look for (Monolith, Colonial Outpost, Transmission (I forget exactly what that one is called), or Shelter), choose Shelter. Chances are you'll find a drop pod that has a suit upgrade in it. If I'm not misremembering, the first one you find won't cost anything, while subsequent upgrades will cost 10,000, 20,000, 30,000, etc. Also once you get the first AtlasPass, the locked doors in space station hangars will usually have a suit upgrade as well.

-There's also ship upgrades (either by repairing wrecked ships you find while exploring or by buying a ship from an NPC in space station hangars or other places where NPCs can land) to increase your ship's storage space. This is pretty expensive, but worth it, and definitely something you'll need to do.

I'm around 12-15 hours into the game and item management isn't nearly as much of a problem as it used to be. It could still be handled better, though.

Looks like there isn't going to be a preload at all (This is from the email sent out from Iam8Bit, who are the suppliers of the Explorer Edition)

I am getting this sometime late today/early tomorrow. My weekend is now completely devoted to this game. Gonna have to fight the woman for time on it.

I wasn't as irritated by the inventory as other people. The way I see it, it's desgined so you focus on a goal (guided or self driven) and to keep moving between planets and trade posts and space stations.

It's not a game where you are supposed to pick up everything you see like The Witcher or Skyrim. Take what you need, decide what you need before you take it.

I totally understand why people wouldn't like it though, it's jarring initially.

He verbatim mentions two players finding each other. Again, we'll see as the weeks go on how things are when the servers stabilize. Until then whatever, enjoy the other thread.

Anyway, felt all sorts of badass docking in my first space station due in part to the soundtrack. The music in this game is off the damn hook.

Dude, the guy with NAT problems stated in the twitch stream that he had never been able to even chat with friends, hell he didn't even have a sub to PS+, at that point it just got laughable. Did you even watch the stream? That's all I'm saying on the matter if you want to discuss it then there is another big thread for that.

In a way, I am very pleased that the servers are overloaded.
It means the game is a big hit, and I love when games I enjoy are successful.

Trouble is, many people, myself included, can't stomach 12-15hrs (which is normally about a weeks game time for me) of crushing resource gathering and inventory management to get to a stage where the inventory management is less of a drag.

I think I might hate this game.

Day One: Learn language, manage inventory, activate beacons, look at animals along the way, and sell/trade. Rinse / Repeat.

The only reason I'm doing four of those things is due to activating beacons, which I can no longer find on a map system once I leave the area.

I have to believe there is more to the game. Doesn't help that 4/5 areas look identical to one another.

ugh, that's what I feared this would be
I hate repetitive games and this looks like the king of repeat.

but I have such an itch fo explorative space gameplay, I will probably just buy it anyway

Landed on a palm tree like a boss, solved a
math problem that gave me coordinates to some ruins. Went to the marker (underwater) and there was fucking nothing... Is that a bug or did I do the math problem wrong? I'm 99% sure I got it right, though. It was "1212 2121 1212 XXXX" and I entered 2121 to complete the sequence.

Left that planed and headed for the nearest space station. Immediately got attacked by space pirates. My connection was already very unstable (remote play) so I paused and put my PS4 to sleep. Will have to deal with that situation when I get back home... Hopefully I can defeat them. Can I enter the space station while in combat?

But every game is a repeat of functions. Why target this game. Do you know what people do in the most popular games, repeat the same loop over and over.

Lol this is based on the fact two guys on twitch couldn't see each other last night even though one wasn't even connected to PSN. That was the point last night where I left the "can't see other people" thread. So stupid.

When did they say you can play with your friends? Quote please

Then you left like 15 minutes before the guy got PS+ and connected to the server. They were both displaying their connection status and online services were connected for both.

I'll let someone else post the quote because I'm on mobile and it's been shared a thousand times already so you really should have seen it by now.

Loving it so far! Played for four hours from midnight last night and woke up early this morning to continue my adventures!

Just have a few questions:

1. Can you see your friends on the galactic map? I've not found an easy way of doing so.

2. Is there an easy way to find the planets in a star system? Thought there might be a star system level of zoom to the galactic map. Sometimes I'm finding it tricky to find all the planets in a system.

Why aren't you progressing the story instead? That's the most tedious part of the game

Don't hoard materials you don't have recipes for. Simple as that. If someone told me that before I started playing I wouldn't have had any inventory troubles, because I was grabbing materials I didn't need in the eventuality that I would need them.

Anyway, game is awesome. I'm really loving exploring every new planet I come across. But man, some of these planets are freakin brutal. Came across a heavily irradiated one that felt like I was in the Glowing Sea from Fallout 4 at all times.

My only complaints about the game are the FOV and the dithering terrain generation thing. I really wonder how much it's mitigated in the PC version. May double dip if it's a significant difference.

4 more hours of work, then it's on.

Any essential tips for starters? I already learned not to accept the pre order bonus, can I still get it later on? Though I think I just stick with the natural progression.

Get it after you warp out of the starting system on your own.

It's not that good.

Even without hoarding unnecessary materials, the inventory(s) you start with are woefully small, and means that it takes plenty of inventory swapping to be able to get enough materials and crafting to enable you to upgrade and repair things
