You and I have similar setups and my FPS is usually at least 44-50 but goes higher in some situations.

What resolution are you running at? Which anti aliasing setting are you using?

What do your temps look like on the graphics card?

I'm running at 1440p. I've tried running with SSAAx4 and no AA at all and average framerate changes by 3 or 4 FPS at most. Temperatures on my GPU top out at 75 C.

That's very strange then, our setups are nearly identical. My 290 isn't over clocked and my CPU is older (3570k) but it is over clocked to 4000 or 4100. Doesn't seem like that should matter but some people are saying this hits the CPU hard.

Similar performance on my PC, i7 6700k, 16GB RAM, 1070 gfx card. Had no problems at all since changing the settings (again, same as you).

It really depends on the planet. I've found a pretty one that brings my FPS down to a 50-55 average xD CPU utilization 70-80% on multiple cores

Played for 2h now. Still no crashes and only stuttering appears when entering an orbit at extreme speed (as soon as the ship has slowed down it's gone)

Another thing they did which is weird, is not have vectored UI elements. This means that all text and UI elements are scaled (stretched) to your resolution. This is something which looks awful at resolutions above 1080p. Kinda like anti-future proofing your game.

still can't launch the game. still crashes half a second after the Hello Games splash screen. i've never been this bummed out in my life.

Just did a 6 hour session. Longest gaming session I've had in around 5 years!

Turning Shader Cache off helped me initially but it's back to being janky. It gets worse the longer I play.

Does the game have a memory leak?

i7 2700K @4.3Ghz + 16GB Ram 2133.
MSI 980Ti Gaming 6g

Nothing seems to work here, no magic fix. My CPU chokes when I'm moving, goes from 30% up to 85-90% usage, and the frames drop to the 30-40s for a second or two. Very annoying. Maybe Sandybridge just can't deliver 60fps. :(

Weird. I have slightly worse specs than you and am not having those issues constantly.

Here's a bit of a check list that got it working pretty well for me:

1. V-sync off in game
2. FPS set to max in game
3. AA set to off/none
4. Use borderless window mode
5. Use medium/low settings for everything (only increase these from low once you actually get it running well.
6. Use driver 368.81 not the beta 369.00 (beta driver caused slowdowns for me)
7. Run at 1080p
8. Open TKGRAPHICSSETTINGS.MXML in No Man's Sky/Binaries/Settings
- Make sure v-sync and Gsync are both set to false.
9. In Nvidia control panel I turned on Anisotropic filtering to 16x and FXAA to On.

Why? There's no multiplayer so its not like what they do will effect you or anyone else in any way

There's no multiplayer for now, we still don't know for sure how it's gonna be with future updates. I'm not counting on it though, but still, the data of discoveries is shared, so imagine if everyone was cheating, and naming dozens and dozens of planets without having to put work on it. Discrovering new things is a reward, and it's shared with everyone. It doesn't sit right with me if they are not earned, that's all.
Of course it's not as bad as cheating in a competitive game, but on some level it bothers me a bit.

Running everything at high at 1080p causes Performance to be all over the place. Pop in and hitches like crazy. Cannot recommend.

Wish I could do that but I bought at gog.

Oh I still have it on steam.. Can't get a refund because I fell asleep tweaking it in the menus, so I've 15 hours "played".
Haven't done a damn thing but watch the intro.

120 dollars in. Hoping this is good. 60 seconds left till my PSN download finishes.

Shader caching is supposed to improve performance by not requiring the CPU to compile on the fly... but I wonder if, on some titles at least, it might be more harmful than beneficial. Anyone have the skinny on that option?

Tips for people who need a major boost in FPS/performance:

Change FPS to 90 or Max (though i recommend 90)
Set Borderless Window
Disable V-sync

And lastly, go to the installation folder/Binaries/TKGRAPHICSSETTINGS.MXML and change Gsync to false

Boom, the game is pretty stable now.

Running on a I7 6700K, 290X, 16 GB ram and on an ssd, it was running fine for me except i couldn´t get rid of the screan tearing no matter what, also some stuttering at times when as someone else said i boost straight into the atmosphere and almost burn up on entry. :)

Now as it seems some settings ingame doesn´t take as they should so i went and turned them off and forced it on the radeon profile, aa, af and vsync, unlocked fps ingame and set to target 60 in profile.

Now it seems to run smooth for me even leaving and exiting while boosting, and best part no more tearing.

Really want to try this, but only have a PC, no PS4. My rig will handle it, but it seems like a crap shoot if it will work or not. If I do buy it, I am guessing get it on Steam just in case for the refund?

did all that and it still ran badly.

Does AF in control panel actually make any difference? From watching the way the game generates the textures as you walk around, I'm not sure there's anything in those soft distant textures that AF would actually help with. Or is it that the in-game AF is just broken? Anybody got pics?

i5 4670 @ 4.5 GHz

Bit of cache stutter on first load but otherwise 60fps on foot at 1080p all max settings

Bit less when flying

Is open gl triple buffering worth enabling in crimson?

That's why I got it on Steam, knowing I could get a refund if I needed to.

PSA: Mouse sensitivity setting doesn't stick until you quit out and restart the game, like most of the graphics settings.

Very odd! Out of curiosity, what quality settings are you running at?

Was having an issue where the game would completely lock up upon start, this would happen after I tried to alt+tab in fullscreen mode.

Deleted the settings folder in the binaries directory of the game and that fixed it.

Should have mentioned this last night, but just remembered now.

Added to OP.

So what's the consensus on the LoD/dithering on the PC version? Significantly improved over PS4 or just about the same?
It's the main reason I'm considering double dipping lol (secondary reasons being FOV and framerate)

Im torn, i really like the experience, the exploration, the ambiance and for me the game runs fine...

BUT i cannot stand the blurriness.

how long we are gonna pretend to ignore the worst problem the PC version came with...:

INTERNAL RESOLUTION LOCK!

X9WP9Bh.jpg

and the sad part is that i dont think Hello Games will ever acknowledge that issue. so probably im gonna wait for a week and then refund it which is a shame because i really waited a lot for this

Probably incidental but I was having really poor performance on i5 4690K (4GHz) and Nvidia 1080 - tried alsorts and then rebooted to install a windows update, reboot seemed to fix it! Locked 60 now at max settings on a 3440x2440 screen!

Thinking of picking up the Xbox one wireless controller today? Anyone able to get it working in NMS?
Works just fine but the game randomly flashes between the Xbox control prompts to keyboard and mouse during gameplay

Why add this conjecture right here?

Wait, it doesn't even run at 1440p? The game is upscaling itself?

That's a dealbreaker.

seeing as it doesn't exist... we can continue to ignore it?

Why add this conjecture right here?

because judging how they deal with the multiplayer saga is something to be expected.

it has to be upscaling, i cannot think of another explanation for the terrible blurriness. (i have AA and AF disabled)
last time i experienced something like that was with Dark Souls PTDE. and later we discovered that it was locked to 720p
