When Wii U is $150 let me know.
Include a decently sized HD at $150 and then we'll talk.

I just want to play mario and zelda, I should be covered by the pro controller (if it wasnt for the rest of the ui).
I think the new Mario game requires the gamepad in a few parts.
I think at $199 you could consider it a deal. Not at $250.
My opinion is that even for a brand new Wii U that's way too much, let a lone for a used one. ( As in "the Wii U is overpriced and sucks", not as in "there's better deals out there")

That's $75 to $100 too expensive in my opinion ..
It's at $200, is it a deal?

They're giving it away, is it a deal?
This is Nintendo's problem.

It's got gamepad functionality in several maps but every single one of those maps is on a branched path and can be ignored entirely without hindering progress iirc
Obviously most people don't see too much value in this proposition; that's the problemGood HD graphics AND an almost flawless second-screen experience built into the box is its value proposition; but of course this logic has no place in Nintendo-fail threads.
Oh well back to modding Skyrim and trying to 100% Super Mario 3D World.
You won't be able to play all of the levels in the game without playing these, though.
and?
is a "refurbished" PS4 for $349 not a good deal?

Yup. So to completion as opposed to 100% completition. But really you'd only be missing out on the Toad Houses (do you even need the gamepad for those? IDK) and a small handful of maps.
Including Champion's Road
There always has to be some hunchback (Nintendo) that loses and a beautiful couple (Xbone and PS4) that wins. It was what Disney taught us, and this mindset is alive and well here as usual.

Pretty funny that at $50 less than MSRP, people aren't sure if it's a deal.
I'm pretty sure GameStop sells new Nintendo Land bundles for $250.
not saying I wouldn't buy a gamepad, but it should be up to me to upgrade to a gamepad if I see the value. cause yo, that gamepad is like 50% of the price.

With the way this thing is selling and the slow drip of games I'm more likely than ever to keep waiting. Originally I thought I would be in at 250 but with a grim outlook that number keeps dropping
Brand new Wii U's will be available for $200 soon enough. Nobody should buy this.
If you could get a brand new PS4 with a game for $399 then no, that's not a good deal. In the Wii U case I'd go with a brand new system with Mario & Luigi or Zelda for $50 more.
Eh, I can easily find it online for $200 new. Have a window open with a Deluxe @ $200 new right now. It's nice that they're selling the systems refurbished though.
The value proposition is not the problem, but rather the image perception Nintendo faces. This is something Nintendo could try to do something about, but the solution involves spending more money on marketing and money-hatting exclusives then doing what they truly passion - making great games. [/I]
This is an interesting sentiment, and definitely one worth considering if I were Nintendo. If I were to guess, with Nintendo's extensive experience with peripheral attachments, it was important for them to have a 100% attachment so that the Gamepad was utilized by all developers. And the option to lose hundreds of dollar per console or charge over $500 for hardware that was close to as powerful as a PS4 with a gamepad was off the table as well.
They took a gamble, as all companies must if they are to innovate and survive, and it seems the consumers, like yourself, have spoken to its failure by not buying or lamenting the price of "their experience" which was really just an attempt to differentiate from the other two consoles and give the consumers something different.
Again and again though I feel this is mostly an image perception problem, more than anything (and of course this is simplifying); and this includes both the large developers and consumers perceptions of Nintendo. They really need a stronger western presence on their board of directors and this is the change I am hoping to see at January's investor meeting; because it is all about the games, but if they don't have games that strongly appeal to western's currently sandbox and FPS tastes they are missing out on a huge demographic.
Selling the Gamepad separately to the WiiU is literally like sell a Wii with no Wii remote

I grew up playing NES; I remember fondly the day I got the SNES with Final Fight and Super Mario World; the N64 was at my door when it came out with Mario 64; I imported a GameCube; and I waited outside in the cold for a Wii.
I haven't picked up a Wii U because at this point in my life, I know the only thing I want to play on it is Nintendo games, and I simply don't see the value spending more than 200 bucks on a console for Nintendo games only. And as much as I like Mario, I'm more interested in titles like Metroid and Star Fox. I'd lose my shit over a new F-Zero.

Mind sharing the link?
I think many of us feel this way; and though it may seem unlikely I hold out hope they still have time to turn it around with some drastic third-party changes and that "one" prodigal title that finally proves WiiU/Nintendo's worth once again. Thinking Super Mario 64, Super Mario 3, Donkey Kong Country, OoT etc. Miyamoto is working on some new IP so who knows ...
I agree, and it is a safe bet that what Nintendo thinks as well.
wii remotes aint $150
The point of the Wii is the Wii remote. Why sell a Wii without a Wii remote? It'll just be a GameCube. Just like the WiiU will just be another PS360.

Except DKC Tropical Freeze turns the screen off, Mario Kart uses it as a horn. Aside from ZombiU, NintendoLand, WarioWare it's all been shoehorned in and not required.
The system CAN work just fine without a gamepad if they so wanted.
As someone who is interested in the Wii U, I truly do not care about the GamePad. I just want to play Nintendo games.
Then there won't be game like ZombiU, NintendoLand, WarioWare, and curtain levels from Rayman or 3D world.

Same here. I tried out the SM3DW at Best Buy... game looked gorgeous but I didn't like the gamepad at all (off-TV play included).
3Dworld is not a good example when experiencing the Gamepad especially from a demo. You should spend more time with it than just a couple of minuets.
Do they accept Dogecoins?

What's makes you think a low-resolution resistive screen costs Nintendo $150 to mass produce?I played rayman just the other day... and if I want to play zombiU, I will ask myself, is it worth another $150?
Wow how generous, get rid of the controller(or let me use tablet) upgrade it to output every game at 1080p native and sell for 99-149$......until then no thanks NOA.
