Norman Reedus describes working for Hideo Kojima

He don't make his own interpretation, he just acts like Kojima said 😂
i dont understand michael cohen GIF

In movies is not the norm for the director to do the acting just some indications to the actor, directors just let the actor do their interpretation. This is a video game and looks like is not the same as movies because Kojima makes the whole acting to show what he wants or probably is just his style.

Someone needs to play the pizza chef scene for him and Charlie's dance scene in DS2.

Then give his thoughts.

Is this the main character guy? Seems like he has a good career ahead for other acting. My son said he was great in the first game. I didn't play it, but he bought me DS2.

I also haven't played it, but I watched the recap and he seems pretty good at it.

Norman Reedus has been acting since 1999 and is 56 years old.

I firmly believe that Kojima only has like a very rough outline of what is supposed to happen, and then just wings it to get to the next point in the outline as development goes along. That's at least how Death Stranding feels like to me.

Incidentally, Hayao Miyazaki also works like this, but I found his movies to have far more intent in their pacing than Kojima's stuff.

Thank you for the explainer and the edification. Since I retired a while ago I got rid of cable and don't have apps. My deployment cycle was pretty busy also.

The way he looked, he seemed to be damn good at it. Again, it's appreciated.

So much to unpack in this one post.

Oh, Wife showed me this yesterday. I'm on ds2 now and it's really great the way they are able to act with their faces pretty well. It's a story-based game but it's more vibe than story. The looks on their faces burn into my brain.

I'm playing through DS2 and the writing is terrible. Easily the worst part of the game. It's a shame because otherwise it's excellent. I almost feel like the game would be better if they got rid of the cutscenes because it does nothing to help the rest of the game. I want to like the story but the way it's delivered is so fucking bad. Take this man's pen away.

He used to collab on writing with Tomokazu Fukushima for MGS 1-3. Hasn't quite been on the same level since they parted ways.

I don't mind the quirky and out there stuff but the episodic open world structure of MGSV, DS1, DS2 leave a lot to be desired.

I accepted his "acting" in the first game cuz it fit with the whole "i have no idea wtf is going on and ill just grunt", but in the second game it makes no sense at all as to why he just never reacts to anything especially in the more emotional scenes. It's annoying, but hey 10'10 from critics!!!!! How low have the standards have fallen. At least Troy Baker is carrying the game's story in the few scenes he has. That guy is amazing. Would've been better if we played as him, some form of redemption instead of the same shit we did in the 1st.

Interesting he used to have a writing partner. MGSV felt very weak in that department to me as well. The groundwork of the story is there but the beat for beat moments are just not hitting for me. I'll be curious to see how the material translates in the film version - hopefully Kojima will take some notes.

"Now pick up the baby and cry"
"I don't know what any of this means"

Perfect summary of Death Stranding's plot.

What they did with Phantom Pain's plot is unforgivable and arguably #1 in gaming sins.

But that game is SO GOD DAMN FUN TO PLAY. Still some of the tightest controls and game play mechanics.

I honestly believe that Sam in the game may be autistic or might have a mental health condition that affects his ability to express emotions in a typical way. I've known people with similar traits, and he seems to fit that profile quite closely

THANK YOU
I mean I think I'm beyond you as I can't even play it, know it, wouldn't buy it. But that's after buying and trying the last one.
I tried watching a pretty lengthy story bit on YouTube. It's unwatchable as a narrative story. Points to Norman for being a normal human being and recognizing his direction was laughable.

"Now there's a whale!"
Ok Hideo.

It's so bizarre how much of a disconnect there is between the level of quality and craftsmanship put into the presentation and mechanics and the actual story itself. It's like ALMOST there but the writing just sucks you out of it.

I remember being pumped for the first game thinking surely the writing would be better than MGSV, and it even presented itself as some kind of arthouse type of thing, and then the characters start talking and it's just diarrhea.

Also, the heavy-handed inclusion of a stranding in the name, in the game with the fucking whales, and then saying "everyone has a beach" is so cringe.

Yeah but have you met people like that in an apocalypse setting involving baby couriering and killer ghosts?

He makes it seem like it's actually kind of a nightmare to work with Kojima 😂

Yeah I stopped playing the first one very early on… "President Strand" made me laugh for 2 straight weeks. So stupid.

"Show not tell"
"Less is more"

You learn things like this in like grade 10 creative writing. It's completely lost on this guy.

He seems to be like a lot of people playing Kojima games. Not understanding the story completely, but still having fun and staying there for the ride.

I watched through the complete story of DS1 on Youtube, wanted to see what it was all about but wasn't sold on the gameplay.

Still don't have a clue what it was about, just super weird and freaky throughout.

I've since played a bit of the actual game and the gameplay is interesting. But I found out I could just pull both triggers to walk stable and then the whole balancing act lost it's meaning, eventually stopped playing.
Never got to any real building segment. Maybe I pick up DS2 some day when it's cheap on PC, it's got higher Metacritic score, both critics and users.
