Not watching that trailer. Teaser was incredible already. Day 2.. ain’t no one watching on Christmas Day lol
Yeah nothing too spoilery, but like you I'm already sold but couldn't help myself. Hyped.

Day 3 for me, 25th is family day, 26th is always boys day out. Will likely catch it with a hangover. Perfect Christmas film lol.

Hmm.

Watched the OP trailer. That's a proper trailer. It showed bits of the film and made me want to see more. I don't often see those these days.

I don't need to see the second trailer, I'm already sold.

Days like these...

Have a Blessed Day
Some reviews are out the one I read made it seem like the film is more about lily-rose depp's character needing vitamin d and that the count looks unintentionally funny. I hope the reviewer got it wrong

I haven’t been to the cinema since The Northmen. Can’t wait for this.
i enjoyed that movie but was disappointed it was more of a horror like the witch/lighthouse. nosferatu is the movie i'm most excited for. it's been such a long wait. i keep checking the cinema website to see if tickets are on sale yet (they aren't)

Dude, I haven't been to the theater since the third Hobbit movie back in 2014. I hear that all theaters have assigned seating now which is crazy to me. I may actually go see this as I want to support Eggers and want more stuff by him.

I'm reading quite a few mixed reviews on Nosferatu. I'm going to wait for streaming. People are saying The Witch is still his best film.

It’s great IMHO, but not on par with The Witch or The Lighthouse (still need to see The Northman). I feel like Robert Eggers was somewhat limited here due to following the book and original film. There’s still some solid directing, acting, and such, but nothing too surprising. Don’t expect a wildly different take on the Dracula story here.

Well, shit...

Egger's last good film was the lighthouse, The Northman, while it had some good scenes...I didn't find it to be particularly good.

And this, IMO, is the problem with specific auters/artists, as soon as the Hollywood mega-bucks start rolling in, their proverbial "hunger" and vision soon disappears as A) they've already "made it" in the sense that their bank account is already fat, B) they're already famous/distinguished so they feel that they have to prove nothing anymore and C) they have to appease the powers that be in creating something for the masses/not as niche /something with for a bigger target demographic...

Again, his last film, the Northman was exactly that, a Hollywood blockbuster devoid of that Eggers "quirkiness" that he's known for.

Hope Nosferatu is somewhat better but I'm not holding my breath from everything I've read so far...

PS: one of the very few directors that has managed to keep his consistency is Q.Tarantino

Actually, Eggers has been wanting to make this film around the time he made The Witch. He even had his first screenplay draft completed in 2016.

Sure, but, is it actually as good as his previous, smaller budget films ?
That's the whole point of my post mate 😉

Hope it's good since I'm an Egger's fan

Cheers

I just don’t feel this applies here since The Witch, his feature film directorial debut, was profitable with a $40 million box office against a $4 million budget, but that wouldn’t make Eggers rich or anything, so he would have wanted to work on this film long before he really took off (as 2016 was only a year later, and The Lighthouse wouldn’t release until 2019). So I don’t believe his vision was compromised in any way. Like, I still think it’s a film he put a lot of effort in, so I don’t doubt this is something he has always wanted to do.

Sometimes creative artists can have priorities that don’t match ours. Ryan Gosling flat out said in an interview once that his favorite time on a production was for the show Young Hercules. As he said, he got to pretend to fight dudes dressed up as monsters and what have you, and he loved that. Yes, that might seem insane to some given some of the highly acclaimed films he’s been in, but if that’s what made him happy, more power to him.

So I’m not talking about the subjective qualify of his films based on my perception, I’m talking about how I think Eggers legit wanted this made and was not influenced in the way you were describing in your first post. But that’s just my view of the situation.

Mind you, I’m not even the biggest Dracula fan, it’s a story I enjoyed in the book and the few film versions I saw, but not one I’m personally crazy about. But for those who are big fans, which must be a decent amount of people given how often the book has been adapted, I feel this film will resonate with them more than me, and as I said in my reaction to it, I still do think it’s great.

Is it true that Nosferatu looks goofy/silly ? (talking about the makeup etc).

How was it atmosphere-wise ?
How would you rate it compared to Egger's previous films ?

He doesn’t look silly at all. It works for the film.

Super atmospheric, especially the first third. Feels like something out of a fever dream.

I love all his films but I would rank them:

The Lighthouse > Nosferatu > The Witch > The Northman

I think the only complaint I have is that I think 10-15 minutes could’ve been trimmed out of the middle act. Other than that we had a great time watching it.

Thanks man, appreciate it 😉

So, when will this be out on streaming services, do we have an ETA ?
I'd go to a theather/cinema with my wife in a jiffy to watch this but, we live in a country where everything is fucking dubbed and that's a big no-no for us...

Fucking Italy/Germany/Spain/whatever man, it's almost 2025… you'd think that people would have some basic grasp of the English language by now but...nope, EVERYTHING is still dubbed like we're in the 80s, subtitles, how do they work ?

I really liked it a lot, especially as a big big fan of Coppolla’s film so it was fun to contrast and compare. Never seen Skarsgard in anything but he was pretty fucking awesome, as was pretty much the entire cast. Lily Rose sure does look like her father 😲

Loved the set and costume design too, Eggers nailed the look of 1838 Germany.

Very atmospheric, definitely jumped a couple times. Dafoe was great as always. I was engrossed the entire time, didn’t find any slowdown personally. Eggers’ camera work and cinematography constantly draws me in no matter what film of his it is.

Sorry, I don’t have that kind of information. I’m just a regular movie goer.

I thought it was just ok. As a Dracula adaptation I think it got side-tracked by the Rose-Depp character psychic stuff. As a Rose-Depp psychic romance it was side-tracked by all the Dracula story stuff :p It looked great, though dark and dim as hell, I would have to watch this in a totally dark room at home to see anything. I think the actors stumbled over the dialogue, even the great Defoe had issues, much less Rose-Depp or Taylor Johnson. But it was fun with a good atmosphere. Not gonna watch it over the 90's Dracula with Oldman though, THAT was a stylish film, with ludicrous performances but more heart and emotion I think.

Both me and my wife though the gypsy girl on the horse was the best option available, Yowzah :p

As a film though, I think it was too split between stories. I'll throw it under a spoiler tag.

The rituals and cult aspects of Nosferatu all seemed to come from that big book, i think it needed more time. The deep bond between Thomas and ATJs "I'm a boat man" character or the two women could have used more breath as well to justify their sacrifices for each other. I wanted the little girls to come for their daddy as well to amp up the horror.

Is this movie worth seeing? I really don't want to see a sex scene every 10 minutes if it has them (which I'm guessing it does from the trailer).

There’s not that much sex in it.

There’s two sex scenes, they’re not lengthy though especially the second one.
