Like I stated here, I was aloof during the 90's and am unfamiliar with the period's music.

So I'm bringing up another biggie - Nirvana - enlighten me please.

"Drain You" wins by a long shot.

Probably my favorite Nirvana song. The live performance from MTV's Live'n'Loud in particular kicks ass.

Nitewulf is right, though, just get all the albums.

Son of a Gun
Aneuresym
Big long now
Verse Chorus Verse
Frances farmer will have her revenge on seatle
Negative Creep
Radio Friendly Unit shifter
Turn Around

The live version of about a girl is one of there best, I am also shocked by the lack of Something in the Way, Serve the Servants, and All Apologies. Those were some of the very notable tracks from them.

Some other less notable songs Nirvana covered that kick ass:

- D7 (The Wipers)
- Here She Comes Now (Velvet Underground)

...and that, kids, was the first time I sucked a dick for crack
Check out every song from Nevermind and on. And then, listen to the first 2 albums, because they're quite different than their 90s releases (production wise and all).

I assume you're counting Incesticide as one of those first two albums, even though it was released third. We don't wanna confuse the poor guy.

Haha, alright. Then I'll give him a rundown:

Nevermind
In Utero
MTV Unplugged
Incesticide
Bleach

I remember seeing Nirvana in Detroit shortly before Nevermind was released. While the crowd got somewhat rowdy during Smells Like Teen Spirit, everyone went absolutely nuts when they played Negative Creep. Two months later Nevermind came out. I bet that never happened again.

I got a contact high just stepping into Saint Andrews that evening.

I'm listening to Nevermind now. Argh...someone tell me I'm not the only one who begins choking back tears when listening to Nirvana? =(

you're the only one. as an aside, do you completely wail and lose it when you listen to Unplugged in NY?

I just get choked up a little...can't help it.

Yep, just get Unplugged in NY. The other albums are good, but Unplugged acts as sort of a greatest hits and also includes cover songs etc, and all are fantastic.

You forgot From The Muddy Banks of the Wishkah...for shame.

Eh. It's nothing special. The production was pretty lame, it sounded a little too "live".

Wishkah was alright, but he'd be better off snagging a bootleg of either Out Of The Blue, Dressed For Success, or Roma off of ebay. They each cover a different period of their music, and the sound quality on each is top notch.

What are you smoking. Doolittle is there best!

Bleach and Incesticide don't have the instant appeal that the rest of their catalogue does, so I can't exactly recommend those as a fan. Here's a few great songs that have either not been mentioned or not mentioned enough:

Serve the Servants
Aneurysm
Sappy

From the Muddy Banks was great. The CD versions that were released later on sounded a lot better. Listend to Tourette's from that album. It's killer. Also:

Turnaround
Baba O'Riley - this one is very hard to find (especially the clean one). It was a bootlegs compilation released in the mid 90s o_O
New Wave Polly
Beesewax
Aneurysm
Been a Son

Actually, just buy the boxed set and pick up Rear View Mirror (Pearl Jam) and Seattle bootlegs while you're there. :p

Mama Smurf

My penis is still intact.
So not impressed that You Know You're Right was only mentioned in a tracklist. I love that song.

Just get this CD if you're new to Nirvana:
