NPCB - Nintendo Pennant Chase Baseball

:lol Poor Nintendo. I'm tempted to finally change my avatar. Kicking someone while they're down IS NOT COOL.

:lol Well what do you know. Someone was banned today!

Anyway, I hope this is a sign that Nintendo is paying the US market a bit more attention. I'd say that between this, and Nintendo's sharing of it's properties (so to speak) with EA, it's a pretty good sign. It's been quite a while since we've had a Nintendo brand baseball game. Maybe they'll do basketball next? (sans Kobe, ofcourse)

Special Edition Red Sox Gamecube.

Red Sox don't have pinstripes...

Needless to say I'd buy a Red Sox themed Cube.

...

That Gamecube in the picture is a special edition Gamecube for the Hanshin Tigers of the Japan baseball league. Nintendo issued it in for their 2003 season championship.

Ooooh...I thought it was a photoshop by you and you were claiming that would be the Red Sox cube.

That wouldn't explain the huge "?", but hey? It's a party.

Nintendo has had a lot of sports related announcements recently:

-Mario Baseball
-NBA Streets V3 with Mario, Luigi, and Peach
-Fight Night Round 2 with Other Mac in Super PunchOut
-Pennant Chase Baseball

Plus Mario Golf, Mario Tennis and Legend of Golfer from before.

It seems as if Nintendo wants to expand (create) a sports line for themselves, by making the Mario sports their arcade sports games (though not with yearly updates), along side more traditional titles.... but do it without stepping on EA's toes.

Why not make a Mario Basketball? Because it would be too similar to NBA Street in gameplay?
Why not make a new Punchout?
Why announce a baseball sim just days after EA loses the MLBPA license?
Why not football?

If I were to try and predict the future, I'd guess that Nintendo will make Mario Hockey, and Mario Soccer. Perhaps make a new Courtside game, and maybe tryout a hockey title, but never a football game. I just hope, with what ever they do, that they stick with them.

Mario Soccer I see as being inevitable, especailly if Mario Baseball sells well.

Mario Hockey though ... I dunno how popular hockey is in Europe and especailly Japan, its not even that popular in America honestly, so that might kill that idea (would be cool though).

I don't think Nintendo's going to start a real sports line though. They did that with the N64 and gave up on it, and now with EA being such a big player, they'll probably rather just work with EA on more collaborative types of efforts.

Since they have a vested interest in Major League Baseball though, and since EA is not very strong in the baseball categorey I could see them making future MLB titles for their own consoles.
