NPD - FFXV experienced the best console launch month in franchise history

Don't mind me, I'm just glad that this bodes well for a PC release.

Wouldn't be surprised if an FFXVI that stayed on console pulled an RE7, and went ahead and just hired American writers for the story.

You know after how XIII trilogy went and how XV lore was amazing but story telling absolutly sucked I can see this as a good thing...

I'm glad it's doing well. Not going to lie I'm eating crow on it for sure, I was not a fan from the demo and thought the combat was hot garbage but I started it last week and have already put 25 hours into it. Thought it would never take me away from BF1 but man its awesome.

Haven't bought it yet, but this is excellent news

Good but I really wish it wasn't sending more "cater to the West" signals to Square. Unique japanese flavour is what makes series such as FF what they are.

All the stuff that was cut for potentially being "problematic" is stuff I would have wanted still in the game. Don't take certain deafening parts of the internet so seriously.

If Japan stops buying console games they sort of need to cater to the West to survive

Also, what is this talk that they cut stuff that could be considered problematic? I never heard anything of the sort

Sooo from now on until further notice FF is going to be an open world?

I doubt that FF7R is going to be open world. It would be a massive waste to try and make something as big as Midgard into an open world only to scrap it because you wont see it again till the very end of the game and even then for just a tiny while.

Heh also looking at those "FF is dead" post in Media Create threads are ridiculous now. High budget FF is here to stay.

Those posts looked bad as soon as we saw global shipment numbers and how the game was performing in European markets and US Amazon

Edit quoted wrong person at first oops

5 isn't fully voiced? Everything I know is a lie

Nope it isn't not sure who led you to think that. And while we're at it don't listen to anyone saying it's the next coming of Jesus either.
It's a persona game. It's my favorite persona game. But like with P3 vs P4 resonance will vary. Don't expect anything else. It's not innovative just incredibly well executed given the formula they established + of course the production value upgrades compared to ps2 of course.

I mistook Altus pr I believe it's my fault.

People don't care about story.

Did I enter the wrong timeline by accident?

Uncharted 4 didn't sell a billion units for the exciting crate pushing gameplay. Plenty of people care about it.

People just don't care about Persona. Sadly.

Well, if it also becomes my favorite Persona game, then it kinda is the next coming of Jesus.

I was absolutely not expecting that to be the case before the extremely positive import impressions.

Oh in that case I don't know what they're planning they might very well try for fully English voiced. Speaking purely based on the JP version.

It's really more prove that the masses care about spectacle. Good story is just a bonus to most.
Lot's more games that sell gangbusters are more spectacles than good stories(not that they can't have a good story but it's more a coincidence).
Whereas tons of great stories have not sold their games even half as well and are seldom million sellers. We don't even need to consider Persona.

Last of Us is really the better game to cite but one game does not prove a trend that's pretty clear by now.

Fantastic. With how much time and money went into this game, I was a little worried it might end up killing Square. Or, well, the mainline Final Fantasy franchise.

EWWW. Japan has so many good writers.

They should just hire the writer of Fate Zero/ Thunderbolt Fantasy

Boom done.

They should not hire Gen Urobuchi for anything even remotely close to writing.

I wonder when they'll announce FFXVI.

Does SE usually quickly announce a new FF after a release?

IX, X, XI were announced in 2000.

XIII was announced after XII's release.

XIV was announced right after the proper trailer of XIII.

I didn't love the game but I'm happy things turned out well for Square, good stuff.

Also I think the earliest we'll get a XVI announcement might be PSX this year. (Or E3 2018)

Square really needed this to restore interest and strength recognition with the brand but kudos Tabata pulled it off.

I do think 14 also helped with its constant praisal and being open to the community with yoshi and the community, just the same Tabata did with fans and expos and addressing development fees back. They gambled and work hard and it paid off.

Now bring me Ito FF!!!!!

BD 2 is still working on FFXV and wont be finished till late this year and Tabata has said he doesnt want to work on another FF that early.

BD 1 is doing FFVIIR and it'll take them the rest of the ps4s lifetime and hell maybe even a good chunk of PS5s to finish that.

BD 3 is working on the KHs right now and god knows when thats going to be finished.

BD 5 is working on FFXIV but supposedly they are expanding their footprint and apparently hiring people with single player game experience.

The rest of the BDs are for portable/mobile and DQ so SE just dont have the people to release FFXVI for this console generation.

Pokemon didn't make the top 10? That's crazy to me.
Really glad for FF though. I enjoyed XV quite a bit, warts and all.

split SKUs

SM it sold 4.21 million without digital.

Dunno where that puts it on the list. FFXV did an estimated 1.57m (?) in it's month, so I guess that's the bottom limit...
