You of all people should know that this is complete nonsense. The vita was never the biggest threat to the 3DS. It doesn't matter if it dies tomorrow the 3DS has much bigger competition from things like phones and tablets.

So that price cut prior to Vita release was just Nintendo being generous?

Again, given the genre and the series, it's a safe assumption that its sales are way more heavily skewed towards PC downloads than most multiplatform games.
I know but as a person who appreciates these kinds of games on console, and wishes to see more games like this appear on console, its very disappointing.

As one who greatly dislikes the 3ds as well, I can understand salty's frustration. The Vita was the best chance at getting western styled games on a portable machine. In my opinion the 3ds is crippled by a single analog stick, low res screens, and a 3d gimmick in place of hardware power.

Layton was also released in the middle of Hurricane Sandy. I don't know about anyone else, but none of the stores near me had their copies in on Monday, and I obviously didn't get to the store to buy one until much later in the week. (New Yorker here.)

Wait, you do? But you've been so subtle, I hardly noticed.

It looks like the bad reviews stopped a lot of people from buying RE6 and it doesn't seem likely that Capcom will meet their goal.

1k is still awful even for a couple days

Erethian is saying that the 1k is coming from copies that were sold before release and if he's right the number isn't too bad.

Oh right, yeah, but then this has been a much longer generation! Not sure 360 has it in it to overtake PS2 in the states now, but it'll come within a few mill at least, massive feat.

Especially given the elephant-in-the-room that is Wii's greater success in NA.

I think though it also paints the picture of PS3's performance in a somewhat more flattering light than we're used to. If you consider looking at the figures in that article that one year into the gen the PS2 had barely surpassed where 360 is now, leaving PS3 to compete against not only 360, and Wii, but its older sibling which was going to continue to sell decently for another couple of years.

Looked at in that context, the PS3's slow start seems somewhat more understandable, and that the PS2, while globally dominant, never faced such extreme competition and still never was such a huge success in the NA market.

Not sure if it's a serious question, but yes you are. A generation behind ? I don't see Resident Evil Revelations being a generation behind. The truth is I don't get your hate toward 3DS while no one brought the subject, just because the Vita doesn't sell well.
Pathetic IMO.

I think a lot of it has to do with the Vita being Sony's second real take at trying to redefine what's "acceptable" for a handheld. Bigger, better screen than the competition! One more analog than the direct competitor! Etc, etc. The 3DS winds up being a generation 'behind' the Vita (the 6DS will probably end up producing graphics comparable to Vita), but the Vita winds up being technically a generation 'ahead' of what's appropriate for a dedicated handheld, and Sony and friends fail to provide compelling evidence to convince everyone it's worth skipping to the next gen and the general masses remain cool with Nintendo's definition of current-generation handhelds.

Yeah, you're right, Nintendo should have encouraged more retailers to break the street date so it would sell more than 1K!!!!!

(On a more serious note, my local ebgames was selling the game on the 23rd for a few hours before getting an e-mail to take it off the shelf until sunday)

ie Game Gear/Lynx redux.

Ya, Sandy also stalled Vita sales. Would have hit 60K ...

Resident Evil 6 below NBA 2K13 is unexpected, it's quite likely that it had sold less than Resident Evil 5.

Resident Evil 5 (360, PS3) Capcom USA - 1,523k (360 938k - PS3 585k) 31 days
Resident Evil 6 (360, PS3) Capcom USA - ? 26 days

Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City (360, PS3) Capcom USA - 582K 12 days

The new PS3 Super Slim model must have sold really bad, that was to be expected since they increased its price, that was so nuts.

This series almost got hit as bad as Medal of Honor.

There never was a chance. Handhelds occupy this uncomfortable middle-ground between consoles and phones/tablets, with benefits that don't align with western publisher culture/economic incentives.

It was a response to the 3DS selling like absolute shit. I'm not saying the vita wasn't competition for the 3DS, especially if it was successful. I'm saying that for both the 3DS and vita smartphones and tablets are a much bigger threat.

Wow. That's like half of what RE5 did in a month too. I wonder if they overshipped the game now. Didn't they ship like 5 million copies?

Reviews have an effect on sales or this is the effect of brand fatigue ( Operation Raccoon city + Revelations in the same year!).

With the way the console market has been this year. I'd say that's pretty much in line with what I expected. Even though the last one sold gangbusters, when I think about how most Japanese franchises (FFXIII, NG3, SC5, Tekken, etc) are seeing declines, it doesn't seem so so bad.
