NPD October 2012 Sales Results [Up3: NBA, MoH, NSMB2 + History, Pokemon, RE6]

So long as 2K thinks XCOM did well, thats good. Always seemed like it would do better on PC than consoles just given its pedigree. Its been fairly consistently in the top 10 Steam games being sold since its launch.

Its interesting to contrast what the install bases were in the NA market at the start of this generation:

From a post dated 14/12/06

PS2: 35.8 million
GBA: 34.3 million
DS: 7.6 million
PSP: 5.7 million
Xbox 360: 3.4 million
Wii: 476 thousand
PS3: 197 thousand

So, this pretty much confirms that 360 has now surpassed where PS2 was at its time of launch, but contrasted against the PS2's global install base at that time, it shows how different the picture has been internationally.

Mediocre 3DS numbers again, I'll say it again: Nintendo needs a new approach with software, they can no longer expect people to pay those prices for portable games, if NSMB2 not having legs wasn't enough indicative.

RE6 numbers must be pretty dissapointing for a game that's suposed to sell 6 millions.

I guess that's decent Dishonored numbers, for a new IP and not exactly high profile game.

So ready for this generation to end.

Is ending soon.

Next year

This generation started a year before that article was written.

By the end of its 6th full year (where 360 is heading) the PS2 was at 40.9m in the US. 360 will be anywhere from 37.5m - 38.5m, so it's a little bit behind.

You mentioned bundles in an NPD thread so you confused me because of course, NPD doesn't count them.

So again, I ask... do we have a top 10 break down for October 12?

He mentioned bundles because someone mentioned Forza does well in Europe, which it does because it's bundled out the wazoo. It's the standard pack in game in the UK. But as you point out this thread is about the US so Forza sales in the EU are irrelevant.

We don't have individual SKUs, suffice to say in the past Forza 4 charted, Fable 3 charted. Forza Horizon didn't and neither did Fable TJ.

Xcom isn't in the top 10

Doe anyone know exactly how poorly PS3 and Wii have been doing this year? Every month is something like "50% of 360's total combined" but I never check back in to see if actual numbers are ever discovered. I assume both PS3 and Wii are each around or less than 100K a month?

Wastes hours checking old Famitsu software data, but that's why we love him.
From Oct 1 through November 4, Vita sold 31,530 units in Japan.

So in the U.S and Japan it sold approximately 66,000 units.

The absolute best case scenario for Vita's world wide numbers are what, 100,000 in October?

Vita ~ 35k, better than Aug.

So the numbers for Dishonored... are they good?

I'd imagine that and Xcom would perform very well digitally on PC especially.

Bethesda were disappointed with Rage numbers last year and it sold 1.5 million. Then again, it was in development for a billion years and probably had a larger budget than Dishonored.

If AC3 Liberation and CoD don't prop the Vita up, I have a nice collector's item.

At least I can catch up on PSP games I missed out on.

I really don't see how it turns around in the U.S.. The iPad Mini was the final nail in the coffin of a great machine that simply has no market.
