And add to that the "HD Twins" monikor. The rise of the Xbox brand in the USA has made it so that there are two established core consoles to turn to, so it shouldn't be as lopsided as it was in the PS2 era when the Xbox was a new and untested brand...(barring any missteps, and yep, sure enough, Microsoft made missteps which I wonder how will affect Xbox One's performance and if that will lead to lopsided performance in favor of the PS4). I remember being jealous of PS2 exclusives in that era (I had GC and Xbox) but this year, I found out I could get my JRPG fix on the Xbox 360 with exclusives to boot (after dusting it and fixing the RROD with a kit I got online)!

See here was the problem:

NSMB2 3DS = Aug 2012
NSMBU Wii U = Nov 2012

TWO brand new games 3 months apart, talk about fatigue.

Now DK is doing it right:

DKCR3D 3DS = March 2013
DKCTF Wii U = Dec 2013

MUCH farther apart and the former is a port, to get more people on board and prepared for Tropical Freeze.

What they SHOULD'VE done was instead of NSMB2. did NSMBW 3D, with 4 3DS' for 4-player support. Wii could handle it, I don't see why 3DS couldn't. Or even a remake of the original NSMB on DS. I don't think a port/remake before a new game is over doing it. But only 3 months apart is a bit much even for that.

Not even DKC is doing it "right." By giving 3DS the Donkey Kong Country experience, 3DS as a whole is continuing to take away unique software experiences from the Wii U.

Aww, no PS3 Dragon Crown numbers? Tales of Xillia? Killer is Dead? Nintendo sure made it easy after they release all their software numbers.

edit: Oh yeah, and about Splinter Cell for WiiU. I was thinking that another thing that game's performance would reveal is if whether or not having nifty, unique WiiU specific gamepad features would positively affect performance of that title on the platform with those features, in other words, would the gamepad features be a selling point?

I think it would be a seling point for someone who has a Wii U and another capable system (ps3, 360, pc). It wouldn't make one of those users go out of their way to get the system and the game if they could get just the game. There's also content. If the Wii U version is missing content, like DLC or something, then they would be less likely to get that version.

Umm what would you expect? There are 2 other XL colors, and then a bunch of OG 3DS colors.

I guess it's just the mistake of taking forum and website anticipation as translating soundly into the market.

Not saying the numbers are bad or anything, mind you.

I agree. Remaking DK for the 3DS was a shitty idea knowing that they would be releasing a DK game on the Wii U later this year.

yeah we are looking at a very different landscape now. If PS4 can gain some good ground in the NA market I think the PS4 can hit PS1 like numbers at least...but yea no more PS2s

At first I thought Pikmin 3's sales listed were just retail, but wow, retail/digital? More than a bit expected, but would've loved for it to have done better...

I didn't see the dates for this sales period in the OP--Does this cover the Vita's price drop? And, if so, did the Vita manage to finally overtake the Wii U for a month?

Edit: First question answered right below me so nevermind that one.

How many days of post-price-drop Vita sales were in this period?

From the predictions thread:

Potential hardware impacting events in August:
Black 3DSXL @ $199 - August 11 (21 days)
PS3 12GB version @ $199 - August 20 (12 days)
PSVita price cut to $199 - August 21 (11 days)
Wii U price cut to $299 announced for Sept. 20 - August 28 (4 days)
2-D 3DS (i.e. 2DS) announced for Oct. 12 at $129 - August 28 (4 days)

Well, I was thinking more along the lines of how Red Steel sold due to motion controls. Was the gamepad a selling point for the WiiU? Did people buy the WiiU for the gamepad? Are people craving nifty gamepad features such that they may buy a game that they wouldn't otherwise have gotten because of those features (more specifically, would Nintendo gamers be willing to buy a core title due to it having nifty gamepad features). Would it be worth the effort for third parties to port and spend more money on adding gamepad features for their WiiU titles? But ZombiU answered most of those questions already :-( (Personally, I'd have gotten Splinter Cell if it were Mission Impossible or James Bond...oh come on, I didn't get it on the Xbox 360 too, so I'm absolved of any guilt towards the game's performance >_<)
