NPD Sales Results for August 2013 [Up2: Tons of Nintendo Software]

I'm agreeing. Wii U skus were being watched, according to John.

So you're agreeing that the conclusion to be reached from John Harker's post is that Blacklist sold poorly on all consoles but also in accordance with the respective userbases, and that the videogame industry is wrong to solely judge the WiiU as a result? And that John Harker's post should not be construed as the WiiU version selling worse than the presumably low but in accordance expectations with that userbase?

Because that's what the person you quoted is basically saying.

That's exactly my point, sorry if I was unclear. This gen has gone on too long, with prices too high.

Oh, okay. Then I agree with you. XD

Seriously, though, that was the main reason I transitioned to PC this gen. I'm sick of '05/'06 tech. So glad the next gen consoles will be out soon.

I expect PS4 and XB1 to have huge launches, but I hope the success is sustained. I have a weird feeling we will be hearing bad news sales wise the whole next generation.

It's entirely up to Sony/MS to keep the momentum going. No big droughts, continuous big game reveals and releases etc are needed steps

Pie and Beans

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.
XIV up there is pretty surprising since it wasn't out too long. Who knew, Square? Make a legit good game and people will want to play it (more than your launch servers could take as well XD)

I'm thirsty for some sugary cream already though!

crossgen will keep them ticking throughout the firs year no problem, and if all the talk of easier development isnt pr bs then we should be getting a good e3 next year

Yes, exactly. Re-posting because it got lost in the shuffle a few pages back:

In the August prior to the 360 launch, the PS2 sold 252k, the Xbox sold 136k, and the all-but-abandoned Gamecube sold 49k.

In the August a year later - 360 already out, and PS3 and Wii on the way - the PS2 sold 262k, the Gamecube sold 41k, and the Xbox had already been pulled from the market.

The next August - all 3 new systems already on sale - the PS2 sold 202k. And it did better than 96k in August for two more years.

96k is shit. It's not the hype for new systems killing sales. It's the age and price of the old ones. The new consoles should've been here 2 years ago, and the current ones should be <$100.

i think we have to keep the price of the consoles in perspective. the PS360 NEVER reached the bargain prices that the ps2, xbox, gcn reached. the 6th gen had price reductions really really quick.

2005: PS2= $150, Xbox= $150, GCN= $100

This is compared to PS360 @ $200-300 with new consoles two months away... of course nobody is buying these at these prices with next gen on the horizon.

But Skylanders didn't get the initial up front investment like Infinity had. Those sales aren't too bad for your average game...but Infinity is like the 2nd most expensive videogame ever made (though I think GTAV just kicked it down a spot or so).

That's overwhelmingly toy production cost though.

Those are the kinds of things that sell in the holidays.

almost 200k for Mario & Luigi sounds really good, especially when compared to Japan

then again, that isn't physical only

Pikmin 3 did better than I would've expected. Still bad of course, but relatively it did alright I guess.

As was said earlier, the overlap between the group of people waiting for the new consoles and the group of people still potentially in the market for PS360 is bound to be pretty small.

Still hard to judge how Mario & Luigi Dream Team and Pikmin 3 did on the chart, though I would guess that digital sales probably don't take up too much of the share.

We get a really, really good Splinter Cell and it bombs?

Unacceptable. I expect an apology from all non-buyers by morning.

10/10 1st parties.

115,000 for both physical and digital? Meh.

They should've pricedropped along with the Pikmin launch. The game deserves it more than Zelda.

Yeah I wouldn't really expect higher than 10% digital with these.

Wait, it was exclusive? Damn, the Blacklist numbers are far worse than I thought then. :/

That's lower than the debuts of both Pikmin and Pikmin 2.

Eh to be fair Pikmin launched with the GC and was caught in the launch rush hype. 2 wan't released until 3 years later. Pikmin 3 was never going to do blockbuster numbers especially with the current situation.

Okay, so a brand new 3D Mario game over its lifetime outsells a stale sequel to the 2D Mario lineage. This is despite 2D Mario usually outselling 3D Mario.

The lesson Nintendo takes away from this is not "People get tired of constant sequels." Instead, they decide to just make a direct sequel to the 3D one because it sold more.

Fucking Nintendo.

Clean sweep for first party titles. Huh.

How many big third party titles have come out in the US on the 3DS this year, though? It seems like third party support is almost as shit as it is on the WiiU. Only difference is that the first party support is actually making up the difference there.
