If anecdotal reports are to believed about xboxes sitting on shelves, there's an indication that 908k was the ceiling of demand for the xbox in December.

I agree. This is December numbers and MS is responding to December numbers, but there are so many here flying the flag of the other console talking Liftetime sales. MS got a lot of crap for the PR statements last time, so this time, they are speaking about December and get crap for it as well.

I mean, the number of people that said the PS4 would outsell the Xbox One in December seem really bitter ight now. Why can't everyone just accept that the PS4 was outsold for the month and only for the one month? It is too much to accept for some of you?

I have both consoles, I like both consoles and I am glad they are selling a ton of hardware and this can only be good for our hobby overall. The hatred some of you have makes it feel like you have a vested, personal interest in who outsells who. It is just gaming guys/gals. When 2 of the top companies are selling like they are selling, you need to know that is a GOOD thing for the industry.

You have to remember that all these numbers that are coming out are estimates. Even NPD's. Even if it only adds up to 2.8 million, it doesn't mean Microsoft's numbers are a lie.

I too am enjoying my Wii U. I think it's had a solid 1st year, and am quite excited for next year as well.

I rarely turn on the PS4, but the Wii U usually gets a play.

I think it largely depends on this year's momentum (definitely not this year), but I don't realistically expect to hear anything till 2016, unless they drop to Vita numbers in the span of 12 months.

I would suspect Fall 2015 at the earliest (though I do think they should go by then).

Usually you want to release your new product while your first product is still selling well so people don't forget about your brand, but not so fast that none of your development partners are ready.

Nintendo are very lucky that the 3DS is being compared to Vita right now and not to it's predecessor, or even Vita's predecessor.

There were no real "beast mode" consoles this December, PS4 got the closest this year in November, but otherwise the US console market was pretty crap in 2013. Hopefully 2014 will be a huge turn around.

Mort said the number was closer to 2.8 million than 3 million, but in the end it doesn't really matter that much. We are only talking about a 200K difference. For me the biggest guide will be the next fiscal year forecasts from both Sony and MS.

Next month's and the following month's NPD are going to be much more telling about how this generation is going to go, I believe.

Sony still has a Japanese launch next month and will be diverting more units from the supply constrained markets.

So if Xbone sold 908K and beat PS4, but PS4 remains the leader and sold around 200K more in November, PS4 has to be somewhere between 700K-900K. I'm thinking around 800K maybe (lol, middleground).

I don't really expect much more from the 3DS because Nintendo has been bringing their big guns at a pretty good rate WW since the holiday 3D Land and MK7 hit which I would consider its beast mode.

Same here, I fell out of the handheld market after GBA, but I just couldn't pass up what the 3DS (And subsequently DS BC) had to offer
