NPD Sales Results for February 2015 [Nintendo Numbers, Majora's, MH4, ~XB1]

Disappointing for The Orders positioning and no doubt sales. Sadly reviews killed what was actually a good game. Deserved better but it seems to be performing decently in Europe.

Be interesting to see the PS4 numbers.

+290k for The Order in a week doesn't sound bad, and it's only for retail. Why exactly are the digital sales included in MH's figures, but not in others? Seems odd to do an exception with one title.

I would suspect Nintendo or capcom is sharing digital numbers

The Order is above 290k?

That's actually pretty damn good all things considered - single player only, new IP, light on content, one week only, got hammered in the reviews.

That's better than every single Forza debut month, and about on par with KZ2 which had a lot more hype at the time. And IIRC, Uncharted 1 sold less than 200k during its launch month.

This actually gives me some hope that Sony will continue to invest in a (hopefully) much improved sequel with more content and some online multiplayer.

The game is flawed in many ways but I still enjoyed the hell out of it. The engine alone is an impressive feat for a studio that only recently worked on handheld games.

I'm so confused so did the PS4 sell more then the New3DS, but less then every 3DS sold in February? Is that why they say they topped hardware sales or is it because they are just talking about consoles?

they're probably talking about their market, which the 3ds isn't in direct competition with. most don't choose between the two. in that sense, ps4 is number 1 in that market.

if i were to guess, 3ds or new 3ds probably is #2 but combined it beats ps4.

why?

it finally got the sales it deserved.

and i heard they fixed some annoying things from the original version.

I'm not saying it's not deserved, simply unexpected.

And yes, aesthetically it's a significant step up from the original, with many inconveniences streamlined or ironed out.

People are so salty that they try to make an argument about splitting up the 3DS SKUs? Come on guys, the PS4 is selling out of this world great, and you can't handle one month of it being outsold? Take it like a man, jeez.

I figured Evolve did well. Our Best Buys had dedicated cardboard game displays and they were cleaned out.

It gets hate on GAF, but I like the game and the free maps model.

Nintendo, take a bow.

You've earned it.

Doesn't mean that at all. Nintendo gave out digital numbers despite NPDs only measuring physical sales. So there's no way to know from that how many copies The Order sold since we don't know the breakdown of Monster Hunters sales.

I'm assuming that if and when Sony releases a PS4 revision they will group the sales together, no?

You're assuming Sony will release a PS4 revision with an internal spec boost, separate branding and exclusive games. That's something they've never done before, but it's exactly what Nintendo does.

That said, I don't think it's "wrong" for Nintendo to group them all together. New 3DS has 0 exclusive games available right now and is still part of the 3DS ecosystem.

It probably isn't. Nintendo officially released the combined sales numbers for MH4U, but NPD only tracks retail sales. Whatever percentage digital sales made up for MH4U's total needs to be taken out to give a more accurate assessment for how well The Order: 1886 would have done.

Order is like 300k?

seems ok for a new ip in feb
Damn good considered the critical reception...lol I plan on picking it up after a few price drops myself.

Mind you this is only NPD and not including digital sales I believe. Don't think R*D are concerned with getting funding for a sequel.

Not if its more powerful and includes games that can't be played on the previous sku.

You're going down a road that will have you arguing against precedent and inevitably lead to you moving goal posts and people shooting you down with examples.

Looks like Nintendo found their financial magic: make figurines no one will use for their intended purpose, and put out a new version of their handheld which already had a scaled back version, but without a power cord.

Also get used to hearing Microsoft touting Xbox One having a year over year growth and "best ever" for that month. "Look guys, our machine that used to cost $500 around this time last year, but now costs $349, is doing better sales wise! Isn't that just amazing?"

Oh, and Sony is the best selling hardware in the month because handhelds don't exist. What do you mean they have one out? It's called the Vita? Shit. Someone should let Sony know.

I don't personally care either way but you have two different folks saying they are #1 so the obvious explanation is that they are combined. As they should be.

Why are strippers at the U.N. bad when they're great at strip clubs???
that they are not #1 in software sales? You did right SW in the OP, not #1 SKU.

Are really going there Psycho?...

Nintendo have the number 1 position in the software chart...

Anywho, please mod edit the title to the following for Psycho: Nintendo achieves double-kill (HW & SW SKU)

In addition - slayed by gaming journalist! In the end 9th place is NOT THAT BAD!

Anyway, if PS4 is above 400k, then dayum!
At least it charted, wasn't there a AAA game that came out last fall that didn't even chart at all?

Congrats to Nintendo, though I wish they just stick to handheld, watching the wii u suffer hurts my soul

I want good games to do well, and I want bad games to do poorly, so I'm content with The Order being 9th. Also, with Evolve being 2nd, I guess it was a slow month.

Lol at a port of Xenoblade making N3DS Nintendo's next gen handheld. I guess PSP Go should not be grouped with PSP since it can't play physical-only games.

The Order also cost a lot more then MH4U to make, 290k for MH4U is a huge success for Capcom, only about 300k for The Order is probably not as big a success if it's a success at all. Hard to imagine those graphics were cheap to make.

I love how people calculate the cost of a game software based on just something like graphics... spoiler:
it's completely wrong

I'm very happy for MH4U, seriously, this game really deserves it with the amount of things it has

The Order bombing hopefully means that the gaming public is tired of just having prety graphics and shallow gameplay.

I don't know why some are acting like the Order flopped lol. Those sales aren't bad....that being said they aren't particularly good either.

Dude game is probably going to hit 1 million world-wide. That's successful. If it isn't, Ready at Dawn need to budget better lol...

Most of the people complaining are the ones attacking Sony for their PR statement. The split 3DS thing is just a response to as to why Sony would say the PS4 is the best selling hardware.

Awesome gifs, thread is already delivering!
By the way, I'm glad some people are happy to see The Order's low numbers, we just saved the gaming industry from a terrible future!
Seriously, wtf. ಠ_ಠ

You're claiming I'm in a disagreement that other companies haven't done it. I'm saying it shouldn't be spun that way regardless of company.
