NPD Sales Results for February 2016 [Up1: Fire Emblem]

"Ubisoft’s Far Cry: Primal was the top game of February 2016 with greater sales than Far Cry 4 when adjusted for the number of days the games sold within their respective launch months.”

Super interesting, and frankly a bit shocking. If the bet to go with such a different type of game pays off for them, it's really encouraging for the entire industry, yeah?

“Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 was the top-selling game on a SKU basis with its PS4 version, and when sales exceeded Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 3 by 90 percent when normalized for days within the month.”

I've asked for clarification regarding this Naruto point. To me, it is saying that Naruto PS4 is the top-selling game by SKU for February. Maybe I'm not comprehending.

Also amazing if the translation is correct. I'm with you though, comprehending that sentence is not easy!

MS "Greatest Lineup" spin or "Unmatched" is really cringe at this point. Number of hours there it is lol.

So, here what's happen when you compare Zughe prediction with the actual result :p

Anime games aren't a particularly lucrative subset of video games. They have a solid audience, but they're typically not the kind of games that can outsell something like a new mainline Street Fighter.

Its a Naruto game not just a simple anime game. It has a wider audience than Street Fighter at this point plus Naruto ending helps.

Kinda feel bad for SFV. I mean sure they tried ta sell a super barebones fighter at full price no less but sheesh. Capcom and Sony really flubbed this one.

How long til thread reaches niche leaks? Gonna need Project X Zone 2 figures!

That's a lot of words that have nothing to do with February.

Naruto is a special case, though. It's the only way anyone who is a fan of that series can see an animated ending to the series so 90% of people who bought it did so to see the story's finale outside of the manga. It's not unexpected for it, with that in mind, to outsell SFV. I'm not surprised by it in the least, especially when you consider the other Storm games' numbers -- they've always been million sellers (at least the mainline Storm games, not sure about stuff like Revolution or Generations). It's not a very niche game series at all.

This ^^^^. Naruto is super popular, and this was also the only way to see an animated end to the series. I'm actually kind of surprised Naruto isn't the #1 game this month period, hardly shocked to see the PS4 sku of it is the #1 sku across the board.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!

I swear to God, I don't get what they mean there. Console sales? Games sales? Exclusive games sales? What, what.

While Naruto does well in the West, Far Cry 4 did over 7 million copies LTD and Far Cry 3 was even higher at 10+ million.

Black Ops 3 is the best selling game of this generation and GTA V is basically the best selling console game of all time, so they have good legs.

Windows 10 was mentioned almost as many times as XBO in that release. (four times vs six times)

Are they 3 different games or same game? Whats the deal behind these fire emblem?

Birthright and Conquest are almost completely different campaigns, with even menu skin and bgm changing from one game to another. Game progression, resources and the style of map/enemy design are also different between them.

However, it's all the same engine with many shared assets (like characters that are playable in one game appear as enemies in the other, a few locations also appear in both, weapons that can be easily bought in one game are rare and limited drops in the other). One game can also be downloaded as 20 dollars DLC for the other version.

There's also a third DLC only campaign (also included in the physical cart with the Special Edition). It's just as long as the other two, although that one has much heavier asset reuse from the two basic games.

This is poetry.

Apart from that quite boring PR statement.
Xbox1 mentioned 6 times, Windows10 4 times. At least that.

That seems pretty normal for a fighting game.

They aren't that popular.

A lot of people in the Street Fighter V related threads the past month need a reality check.

Fighting games are popular, and can be multi-million sellers. Online competitive fighting is a niche within this through. Something the FGC stubbornly fails to realise. Every time I see one of them comment "why should SFV have and arcade mode, no one plays that mode any more", I want to slap some sense into them.

Fire Emblem used to be the franchise I would point to that Nintendo continued to support the development of, despite it not ever really selling super well.

But its really been building over the last few entries. 400k in the US in one month? Jesus Christ.

3 different games, also you can buy the other version as DLC for the game ypu bought so very few people will double dip physical.

Oh, and there is another path/game that is going to be released as DLC for both versions.

Basically, Nintendo must be making MAD money with this entries in the series and the fans got basically 3 games that cater to almost very single fan of the franchise (Conquest is similar to the classic games, Birthright is more like FE: Awakening and Revelations is a combination of both games)

400,000 for Fire Emblem is just freaking awesome. This game is gonna sell 2.5-3 million worldwide, that's insane for a Fire Emblem game.
