Or maybe there's just no gen 7 software that people are genuinely interested in for this month? Most of those games were already out for months.
What the hell happened to Gran Turismo 6?

Then explain how Fire Emblem opened with 63,000 sales digitally with no discount, and if you lose the system it's gone forever? Why do PC games have such a large amount of players online when retail sales aren't even worth tracking and most stores have stopped carrying them?
I think people are more willing to buy digitally than you think. Going to the store to buy games has become a hassle for many people, and it is just easier to click download and be done. I know for a fact Tomb Raider was hard to find at retailers, Best Buy near me didn't even stock it. Game Stop got like 6 copies. So instead of hunting it down it would have been easier just to download it. I just think people are really understating the digital side of things. Buying things digita;ly is quick, easy, always in stock, and doesn't require you to leave the house (you can even buy PSN codes from Amazon).
Good to see the predictions most of us made many months ago even before PS4 released that Microsoft will only have North America as it's strongest market and lose every other market in one fell swoop.
Even in North America it will be a complete disaster compared to 360 marketshare now playing a distant second for the entirety of this gen.
Can't wait for 3rd parties to completely ignore the considerably weaker platform and no need to go for parity holding back PS4/PC.
Agree i mean there are 4 million X1 and PS4 owners in NA if 0.5% buy TR on DD it would have pass 100k .
Still we have no way of knowing since NPD does not track DD sales .
If they are making a profit why do they have to make moves?
What? Profit is all that matters.
I dont know if they are or not. I am just saying if they are making a profit on the X1 then it doesnt matter if the PS4 is far ahead or not.
Have to wait until March really, with Dark Souls 2, titanfall for 360, and SouthparkOr maybe there's just no gen 7 software that people are genuinely interested in for this month? Most of those games were already out for months.
XX) Wii Fit U: <0.015 million (Creamsugar)
What the hell happened to Gran Turismo 6?
RIP Wii U
If you are not sure that they are making money, then your conjecture (that they don't need to do anything) falls apart. Conversely, none of us know how the numbers look from MS perspective. So there is that...
They did a trial run of DD sales in December and they're planning a full-scale implementation of digital tracking.
Pre-ordering from amazon or other online retailers almost as easy and you can sell off when finished with it. Also many games are discounted by online retailers on pre-orders saving even more money. Then add in the couple a times a year buy 2 get 1 free deals from retailers including target at the PS4 launch.
PC is completely different your purchases don't become useless when you buy a new PC thanks to BC.
I agree. Core console gamers rushed out to buy shiny new hardware but I believe the general public just doesn't care.
Ugh, I hate that Digital sales aren't tracked because from here on out retail sales are always going to decrease and not knowing digital sales paints a very one sided picture that the market is declining.
Just look at PC. Retail sales are abysmal, but if you track player counts for games like BF4, PC is usually not far from the top. So I don't think a decline in retail sales, especially compared to a month last year that actually had a new title released on PS360 (DmC) to no "new" title this past month, is indicative of anything until we know how much digital sales make up. I mean if Nintendo can sell nearly a 100,000 digital copies of Fire Emblem (on a system with no account system), I think it is fair to say other titles can do similar or better numbers on platforms that are a little more digital friendly.
But since there are no numbers, people will just continue to believe the market is in a decline, despite having two of the most successful console launches ever, both of which offer every game released digitally.
I just don't see DD sales taking off right now for 2 reasons. First pricing is more expensive or the same as retail with out a physical disc to resell. The other is many just saw there PS3 and 360 DD library become meaningless with out BC. Make people much more hesitant to buy DD right now.
We don't know if it sold like shit yet do we?Why are people surprised Tomb Raider sold like shit a year later at $60?
We don't know if it sold like shit yet do we?
And what are the sales expectations even like for a title like this? You've got the smaller user base, the re-release of a game, at full price, with zero new content. I'd hope those expectations were modest.
1) Call of Duty Ghosts: ~0.33 million
2) NBA 2K14

Definitive Edition: <0.085 million (Creamsugar)
XX) Wii Fit U: <0.020 million (Creamsugar)
I started by saying "IF". If they are making profit then all this doom and gloom is for nothing.
What? Profit is all that matters.
What the hell happened to Gran Turismo 6?
Why are people surprised Tomb Raider sold like shit a year later at $60?
Never mind.
Thanks20 posts above you.
Crazy isn't it? Just like its crazy that there's nothing on the PS4 to scratch that driving itch besides Rivals. And as far as I know, no dates for what little we do know of that's coming down the line. What the hell happened to Gran Turismo 6?
THAT HAD BETTER NOT HAVE BEEN VITA NUMBERS DAMNIT
Thanks
And that's for 3-5 days? That's what others were saying earlier in the thread so I figured it was too soon to really tell.
Never mind.
I don't even know what to say about this deflection:
There are LESS packaged games being made, LESS risks being taken by all major publishers, and all numbers are pretty shit. The is a looming contraction in all traditional gaming markets and much as last generation there will be job loss. This also won't be the first generation in history where developer costs don't rise, for those that preach that line of thinking. And outside the time when the fire sales begin, the ps360 likely can't be cost reduced enough to sell for 99 bucks. None of the new consoles can be cost reduced without taking further losses and 2/3 of them are selling like shit. Kids are not playing as much on traditional devices (Nintendo barely being a factor doesn't help here as AAA is almost solely focused on 16-30 year old males) and this means the contraction will continue to worsen over time. And the idustry is healthy? Not even close
Basic historical stats prove both of you wrong.
PS4 is fine according to the beginning of last gens numbers, XB1 is lower. Combined, they're not that far off from the beginning of last gen, and even later than that (difference in the later years is about 100k for the HD twins).
The above info is out there, so I'm not sure why this strange opinion of "doomed" is really being believed.
Doomed is WiiU estimates.
Holy shit dude...XX) Wii Fit U: <0.020 million (Creamsugar)
Lets just break things down a little bit:
PS4: Selling very well, especially since it was at the very least moderately supply constrained
Xbox One: Disappointing, no other way to say it
Wii U: A continued disaster
360 and PS3: Still too expensive, but sales just went off a cliff
3DS: A MASSIVE decline
Vita: Dead as a doornail
Outside of the PS4, things are not pretty
1) Call of Duty Ghosts: ~0.33 million
If DD on consoles really is becoming popular and that is the cause for lower physical sales, one must wonder how well Steam Machines will do. It is, in essence, a console backed completely by Valve, who understand the digital market more than any other PC or console digital distributor. It could end up being a hit among console players who don't want to touch PC Gaming but want to check out Steam.
That's very low, for example, last January the Xbox 360 version of Call of Duty: Black Ops II did better.
So you think the folks at Redmond are sitting there all chummy with eachother, satisfied that their direct competitor is eating up a majority of potential marketshare out the gate, thus lapping the most consumers into buying into the more profitable areas of console gaming i.e. software & services.
Clueless.
Aqua, can you say if will be able to leak 3DS and Vita numbers?
I'm waiting for hours.
Yeah, Call of Duty:Ghosts had a massive 44% YOY (adjusted) decline this month from last year's version.
Dat franchise fatigue.
Yes the PS4 and Xbone had record launches. But the Xbone has also had a record collapse.
Last gen also didn't just fall, it collapsed.
-67% from last January (adjusted)
Xbox 360 January 2014:
-78% from last January (adjusted)
People suggesting a contraction eliminating AAA games and allowing opportunity for mid tier or indie games, it's not gonna work. People are not going to pay $400-$500 for mid tier games. They wouldn't even pay $300.
Yeah, Call of Duty: Ghosts had a massive 44% YOY decline this month from last year's version.
Dat franchise fatigue.
From what I gather the PS4 is very scalable when it comes to cost reduction with the RAM only getting cheaper. The Xbone not so much.
That fewer risks are being taken by publishers is them shooting themselves in the foot. Clearly Sony is. Rime, Shadow of the Beast, Everbody's Gone to the Rapture, etc. Games they're making because they want to.
That the Xbone and WiiU isn't selling is just a sign that they're bad consoles that aren't appealing to consumers. The PS4 is constantly sold out and is on waiting lists all over the world. You shouldn't buy consoles just to support inferior products. That's not good for competition and nobody benefits.
With Nintendo's decline this time only creates a place for competition. Perhaps we can see the coming of a new company. This isn't the time for gloom. Unless you adapt and try to meet consumers you die out. That's how competition works.
RIP Wii ______
inb4 "but people just bought it digitally/fit meter!"
I'm starting to think Aqua isn't giving us 3DS and Vita numbers for 2 reasons.
One company out of 3 doing OK on the console front does NOT equal a healthy industry. Publishers depend on more than that. That post wasn't about teams and fanboy stuff - it was about a contracting market all around. PS4 will likely be sold for a loss for a while, btw. It's going to be out of mass market price range for a while and so will the other 2 new consoles.
