I would buy itimmediately, but I already have the GC version. So, it's my rule to not have the same game twice. It just doesn't make much sense.

Sell your GC version. It's worth it, believe me.

But if you add the PS3 + 360 userbases and subtract the grandmothers who only bought Wii for Wii Sports + the N-tards who bought Wii for Zelda, then next-gen clearly represents the best opportunity going forward for 3rd parties. Right?

Great Nintendo numbers, both hardware and software. Ouch at PS3 not managing to reach 100k despite the extra week and getting smacked by the GBA.

Anyway:

Zuh?
WII NPD: 381,800
Wii MC week 1: 69,748
Wii MC week 2: 64,529
Wii MC week 3: 65,521
Wii MC week 4: 65,582
(Assuming you count week 5, Wii MC week 5: 73,919)
MC+NPD total: 647,180 (721,099)

So I figured you must have used Canada...
Wii NPD Canada: 53,000
700,180 (774,099)

So where are your numbers combing from?

PSP software sales are simply dire, the platform is almost dead as a software selling device at this point, despite very respectable hardware sales.

That makes like no sense. I'm not disputing your analysis, but I'm just saying that its insane. Why is the PSP selling if people aren't buying many games? Are they just buying far fewer games that Nintendo DS gamers? What do you think the reason is for the low attach rate?

Pretty good numbers for Nintendo systems nonetheless. I really should get around to trying out RE4.

I just passed through the village in RE4 Wii. So far it's pretty damn neat, though aiming with the wiimote takes some getting used to.

My biggest wows came from seeing the software sales for the GBA Pokemons and the DS browser. No matter which part of the figures you look at, you can't escape the domination by Nintendo.

It's a great SNES player.

In amongst all of the Woo! Nintendo! Boo! Sony! stuff, one comment that doesn't seem to have been made yet:

Guitar Hero *seriously* has insane legs.

Wow. That's very telling. This chart includes the Canada NPD reported late last week, right?

Wii does near one million a month! Amazing.

They will, but that won't kill the Wii.

Be stopped not by a single console, it cannot.

PS360 required.

who would of thought, playstation and xbox would have to up the ante, to save gaming

imo

But then, whats to stop Ninty from going the 512mb route, with waggle...and every game on Wii 2, looked like Gears...that would be satisfactory too

...we may be ****ed anyway, smh

imo

UPDATE:

Okay, I heard back from NPD. The PSP number released was a typo. The actual number is 290.1k.

Yet only the stubborn/fanboy ones remained loyal to Nintendo when the industry moved forward in 1995. Most people who grew up on tough as nails NES games moved on to Sony and then to MS systems because that's where the real challenging games were at.
I'd disagree, the rise of PlayStation correlates more to the rise of "cinematic gaming". That's why the PlayStation darlings are franchises like Final Fantasy, Metal Gear Solid, Gran Turismo, Resident Evil or Grand Theft Auto, franchises that place just as much emphasis (or more even really) on presentation, narrative and aesthetic as they do game design, interface and mechanics. It's not that "NES style" gaming moved to PlayStation, it's more that PlayStation gave rise to a newer, more popular, more mainstream form of gaming. Sure there were plenty of more traditional games on PlayStation, but not proportionately more than Nintendo or SEGA systems of the day really.

And now we're getting something of a shift to the reverse, that's all really... though with a side helping of "Blue Ocean" casual targeted efforts. Not that the old forms are dissappearing, we're still seeing plenty of diversity in the "old" styles (cinematic/narrative, score based, competitive/professional, traditional progressive, etc) even on newly divergent machines like DS or Wii. Just as PlayStation didn't entirely eradicate old forms, neither will these machines.

I would think that developers will just streamline their game engines to make 360 to PS3 ports easier. Even if the software isn't flying off the shelves it's still another pool of gamers to dip into.
I don't think many are going to bother if the sales consistently fail to even chart once in the top twenty.

At this rate, Mario Party 8 will become million seller in the US after July NPD. :)

Remove DS and Wii sales and youd see the industry was crashing down honestly. Every month is the same thing Industry growth spurred by DS and Wii sales as headlines

We may be getting off topic, so I'll keep it to this reply. But IMO the strength of the industry is based on the quality of the games being produced by developers, not monthly sales of systems. Sales of hardware is nice, but games are still the crucial element. There are tons of great games coming out on other platforms than the Wii.
I look at the games on the Wii and (totally IMO) I see them as a step back in advancing the art, particularly the Wii titles at the top of the charts.

Though I guess its from looking at the industry from the perspective of a gamer, not a stock broker.

Ok, we are creeping up on a year now and all estimates suggest that these type of numbers will continue for Nintendo for the remaining year.

When is the PS3 going to make it's move?

Amazing numbers on software and hardware.

Doesn't really change the fact that if Sony and Microsoft had been left to play by themselves the industry would be in a dire position.

It can't be just one reason but things like the biggest PSP site in the world being a haven for homebrew, piracy being easy, the fact Sony marketed the thing as a media device and the actual strength of the lineup must contribute.

The PSP has a lot of great titles but not many that seem to work or are compelling as portable titles, many have better counterparts on home systems as well. That's the one area Nintendo really nailed with the DS, different but quality software, that is perfect for portable play. Trying to make a your average PS2 game work on the PSP is never going to end in much success and that is what many of the system's games have tryed to do.

So... PSP sells 290,000 in June but its game sales are still balls? Why are people buying PSP?

porn on memory sticks and it makes a Great Nintendo Handheld through emulation for people who are too cool to actually own a Nintendo handheld

If every game did an Okami, there wouldn't be an industry to crash at all.

LOL...youre high

if the wii hadnt come out, 360 sales would be higher. PS2 sales would be higher, maybe even ps3 sales would have increased. Not to mention ds and psp sales.....some of you people have way too much wii on the brain.

US NPD + Japan numbers in this post plus Canada NPD. US NPD was June 3 to July 7 so the MC weeks used are June 4 to July 8.

If by advancing the art is crapping out your monthly generic fps shooters in HD....

IMO wii and ds push the artistic merit of game designs much much furthur than their more powerful couterparts.
