Also Dragon Age 2 must have killed the series reputation, goddamn. I haven't started Inquisition yet (I own it, just haven't started yet), but most say it is an amazing improvement. Sad they weren't rewarded for it, seemingly

You should start it, because you of all people will find that many things in the game aren't so much of an amazing improvement.

Still worth playing, though.

If Microsoft really won by a 7k-10k difference after all those sales, price drops and bundles I can't see them turning this thing around.

They wont turn it around. The market has already made it's mind up that they want the superior system and rightly so after MS dropped a major clanger with all of their DRM nonsense.

As for the sales and price drops I seen just as many great PS4 bundles as I did Xbox One bundles but that doesn't seem to fit the narrative of the thread.

Is there any truth to bundled consoles not counting towards NPD counts?

If so, the gap could be a lot larger. 10k at best is disappointing.

IMO, the WiiU really needs to get around the $149.99 price point before it's really going to see non-horrendous sales numbers. it is still WAY too expensive currently.

Far too expensive in the UK. And Nintendo games rarely ever get price drops here. Do I want to pay £30+ for a game that's been out 2 years? Not particularly.

I didn't realize polygons rotted over time like fruit.

That's roughly the cost of the gamepad itself (that streaming tech + screen is fairly expensive). Not going to happen.
Might see standardized bundles for $250 though.

Read only the OP so far. But that sounds pretty good for Smash, right? However it seems like it failed to move hardware. 250k was what I was thinking as the lower bound of Wii U hardware sales, and it didn't even quite reach that.

And yeah, I know tons of people here and everywhere LOVE it. But I'm a sad panda that this (imo) dumpster fire of a boring tedious pile of crap that most everybody already played last year charted in the #2 spot while DA:I failed to even fucking chart. :(

And CoD was still led by 360. Huh. Tought that might end this year, but I guess we wait until next year.

If the Microsoft PR used a combination of US and UK to claim a US NPD victory, that's crossing a line. (It's possible they were just highlighting a string of sales performance in both regions).

Has anyone commented on this? Cboot (canadian version of cboat) or Aqua?

Why we are all sure December belongs to Sony? PS4 is now back again to 400$ without any bundles available while MS is keeping up with their BF prices more or less.

They won the first 2 weeks of November when they had the price cut and Sony didn't offer any deals, only when Sony also offered a good deal in BF they destroyed MS again, now in December we're again in the same situation - no deal by Sony while MS offers great deals- they should win December as well.

I really hope Dragon Age win's loads of GOTY awards and the word keeps spreading because it's sad to not see it chart.

People really need to play it.

not surprised Xbox One was #1. i bought one, a bunch of friends bought one and im sure many other people did as well because of the great deals MS and retailers were offering. its sort of crazy that a year ago i swore id never buy the console and now i have one. i hope it keeps doing well in sales so MS moves forward with more content and updates to mert the growing userbase.

About those PS3 and 360 sales, I think I got them, just by searching a bit

Sales first 13 months

Xbox 360
Nov. 2005 ~ 326.0k
Dec. 2005 ~ 280.0k
Jan. 2006 ~ 249.0k
Feb. 2006 ~ 161.0k
Mar. 2006 ~ 192.0k
Apr. 2006 ~ 295.4k
May. 2006 ~ 220.9k
Jun. 2006 ~ 277.0k
Jul. 2006 ~ 206.0k
Aug. 2006 ~ 204.0k
Sep. 2006 ~ 259.5k
Oct. 2006 ~ 218.0k
Nov. 2006 ~ 511.0K

Total ~ 3,399.8K

PS3
Nov. 2006 ~ 197.0k
Dec. 2006 ~ 490.7k
Jan. 2007 ~ 244.0k
Feb. 2007 ~ 127.0k
Mar. 2007 ~ 130.0k
Apr. 2007 ~ 82k
May. 2007~ 82k
Jun. 2007 ~ 98.5k
Jul. 2007 ~ 159.0k
Aug. 2007 ~ 130.6k
Sep. 2007 ~ 119.4k
Oct. 2007 ~ 121.0k
Nov. 2007 ~ 466.0K

Total ~ 2,447.2K

PS3 + 360 first 13 months total ~ 5847K

Almost 80% increase = between 75% and 80%

So, PS4 + One first 13 months total ~ 10,232.25 < x < 10,524.6

PS4 + One first 12 months total ~ 8,500

PS4 + One November, then, ~ 1,732.25 < x < 2,024.6

EDIT: I'd tend to be wary of estimates with both consoles over 1 million. Not for anything, but because, if that were the case, MS would have certainly said that in their PR, where no number was said at all.

so many numbers...

It's the opposite, bundled games are not counted in the software chart (and this is affecting the AC:Unity ranking).
All hardware sales are counted.

wow Wii U @ 242k, holy shit.

The system is going to be, gosh, 18 million? 17 million? by the end of this gen? Catastrophic and tragic (as tragic as business things can get in gaming world terms anyway). Semi-depressed :(

I've always tried to be optimistic about Wii U that things will turn around for the console once Smash and MK8 were out. And now that they are and after getting this results... I think is not even going to come close to that number :'( I... I have something in my eye, brb.

Bundled games don't count towards NPD. Bundled consoles do.

Otherwise they would have no consoles sold that month for either side!

The only thing that doesnt count are the GAMES inside the bundles, so lets say AC:U for the XB1 bundle wouldnt be counted here.

You are overestimating.

This is Wii U's third Christmas, and the console hasn't even surpassed Sega Saturn yet.

IMO Aniibos are cheap plastic shit that I hate and I wish it sold 0 units. Yes salty

Agreed, and this is coming from an avid collector of Nintendo merchandise. They're borderline dollar store quality and availability is being limited on purpose so they can create artificial demand. In the long run, I don't think that strategy will work. This isn't 1996 anymore.

...although Jingle All The Way 2 DID just come out. >_<

HOLY FUCK. Am I reading this right? AC:U at 9 during the holidays when NBA2k and Farcry 4 outsell it? Word of mouth must be spreading because most people including me thought the game would still do gangbusters even with the shit they pulled. Fuck, even a remaster beat it. Wake up Ubisoft.

The game was heavily bundled with X1. The NPD Top 10 doesn't include bundled games.

Just went back and looked, and Inquisition DID beat Dragon Age II's release month sales. Not by a massive amount, but that should be worth something.

No idea about PC version sales, either.

Xbox can still have good sales pacing with the following.

They need to:
1. Slim the console down significantly and
2. Try to cut price by manufacturing efficiencies on slimmer version to $329/$299

Of course this is not taking into account any PS4 changes/price drops. Xbox has can't move any further in terms of price. I imagine perceived value is lower than it should be. But that's no ones fault other than MSFTs.

At least the Amazon dream is still alive through the month of November. However, December is looking a little rocky.

Why we are all sure December belongs to Sony? PS4 is now back again to 400$ without any bundles available while MS is keeping up with their BF prices more or less.

Are you arguing the Sony offering for Black Friday was better than MS? Well I guess there is a first for everything. Sony actually seems a little more aggressive with December deals.

It's bad man.

Here's how.

1. In order to achieve this win, Microsoft had to deeply devalue the product they had been offering all year for higher prices. Consumers jumped in - with a big jump early in November - but according to insiders, Sony may have even won Black Friday and it was those early two weeks that allowed Microsoft to keep the overall win.

2. So, due to this fact, what happens? Will Microsoft have to keep the price at $349? I don't see any viable alternative if they want to stay even remotely competitive now. If they go up to $399, consumers are going to wait it out knowing Microsoft will take drastic price cutting measures if they feel threatened from a marketshare point-of-view. So they'd just as likely wait it out. Consider Xbox division is already under pressure to start making a profit and being a viable pillar, many interal debates between services & devices and the other divisions. In order to just barely win, they had to cut in deep to their profit margin.

3. This means that once the glow of the price change is over, the trajectory indicates it's very likely now PS4 is just going to go back to winning every month. This is the last thing Microsoft wanted. Now they've devalued their platform, their profit margins are diminished, and PS4 is still the marketleader getting their good PR. Microsoft gained almost nothing in the exchange, except perhaps to tell third parties planning to publish games in the West that it's still important to make ports for XBO and engage in marketing deals with MS for some exclusivity and other mutually beneficial deals.

4. With all the game announcements from Sony in December (in fact so many that PS4 is dominating December discussion, in a crucial period of the time when families come together and thus quickly spread their opinions on personal events, TV shows, games, etc), it's not likely Microsoft is going to have room to breathe to make a second month upset. Microsoft Store is selling their system at an astonishing $349 AC Bundle with two free games on top of it, but it will not be enough with numbers that look like this even for November NPD.

None of this means XBO is selling poorly, it probably did quite well if it's that close and edged out PS4. But it does now mean the future is clear: Sony has this generation in the bag in terms of system sales, including in US and UK, and that Microsoft is going to have a very hard fight to even keep their unit sales competitive in their only two remaining viable territories.

I am always amazed by your resilience. You get some major things wrong,(Ps3, FF13, Xbone destroying Ps4 this month) and you still post with confidence.

I have to admit, I admire you, sir.

Likely? More like definitely. XB1 is on life support (if not dead) in continental europe.

Well there were a few good bundles that basically offered the console alone for ~200€, but the impact of that price drop won't be anywhere as high as in the states.
