i think it will be closer since ms' promotion extends through christmas

Fallout 4 had a truncated hype cycle compared to Skyrim (five months vs. eleven months) so that could very easily have been the biggest blindside hit. But November is always Call of Duty and EA game month. We knew Halo 5 was a fall release before E3 2014. NBA 2K and Madden always have legs into the holidays as the respective league seasons progress. And not too long ago, people still cared about Assassin's Creed. Even without Fallout 4, nothing about it made sense. Being out of the top 20 means it was not high on anyone's priority list, even among dedicated Xbox customers. SE gets deserved poo slinging over it, but I think MS also overestimated how the game would hold up in crowded field. It has not been a "big" franchise relative to other third party franchises for well over a decade now.itThe Tomb Raider deal is interesting because it was just so much a reaction to the times. I imagine when MS made that deal for a potential Fall 2015 release, they didn't actually realize just how stacked this Fall was going to be. The rest of the industry were maybe still hoping Fallout 4 was going to be a 2016 game. Add the usual AC, CoD, NBA 2K releases on top of a Star Wars game and Halo 5 and there honestly wasn't a whole lot of room for much else.
Yeah way too early to say much f anything I think. Not sure. Need to get a better picture of 2016's game release schedule.
Just how well are the 8th generation of consoles doing compared to those of yesteryear in their respective November?
Xbox Family
[2003] Xbox - 490k
[2007] Xbox 360 - 770k
[2015] Xbox One - 1296k
PS Family
[2002] PS2 - 1284k
[2008] PS3 - 378k
[2015] PS4 - 1539k
Nintendo Family
[2004] Gamecube - 350k
[2009] Wii - 1260k
[2015] Wii U - 240k
PS Family
[2002] PS2 - 1284k
[2008] PS3 - 378k
[2015] PS4 - 1539k
It was pretty much a perpetual shitfest until $299. They will never launch a console above $399 again.Ouch, you were really deep in a hole back then, uh Sony?
Yeah the ps2 sold 150 million machines on the backs of the core gamer. Lol. No expanded consumer base at all!
I think you shouldn't dismiss the software differences as "specifics change", because it's those specifics that will make or break the LTD of this generation's most successful platform, and the tail it has.
Most young adults are currently playing on healthier platforms, as I've already mentioned. So are children. That's going to be a problem for this market.
So with the PS4 doing 1539K in November, I think we can safely say that a large amount of October's sales were "postponed" to November.
Simple, halo isn't the game a lot of fans want. The simple answer.
Ouch, you were really deep in a hole back then, uh Sony?
Real Talk here, how the fuck does he get away with posting the literal NPD Group charts here? How is this possible?
I mean I love it, and thank you man, but how is this possible.
Mixture of high price, supply constrain and coming out late it was awful.times were really different until just about 5 years ago. it used to be much more lopsided where november > december. now the two months are a lot closer. but early on, the ps3 was doing its best gamecube impression in a few respects.
Nintendo's 'Wii U' was far less successful. Wii U Hardware Unit Sales were only up 0.1% from November 2014, flatlining at 240K. Such flatlined demand for Nintendo's Wii U heralds its future demise because of its lackluster performance despite very cheap Black Friday discounts.
Lol I don't think the I was lurking when the ps3 had those numbers. I guess it was a massacre? Going by what goes on now when they are so close.
If the PS4 bundle pre-orders from October weren't included in the November sales, do you think PS4 still would have won November? With the reports from InfoScout that Xbox One won Black Friday, it probably would have been very close.
Well, November used to make up less of holiday sales that it's been trending towards recently. To keep things in perspective in Dec 2009 Wii jumped to 3.81m.Xbox One and PS4 doing better than the original Wii is amazing.
What? You are acting as if Amirox was awake all night plotting and thinking of ROTR's failure. He was hoping the market responds unfavourably to the game because it could potentially provide an opportunity for SE to consider an old school TR that he loved. There is nothing wasteful about that. The way this generation has been going I will not be surprised if we see an old school TR launching to great fanfare.
Chances are if they do it to one thing they do it to a lot of other things in life.Pretty much, it takes a small amount of effort to have such an opinion and of course that opinion will be expressed on a forum dedicated to discussing video games. Now, if Ami is at dinner with friends or family and he hops on the table and goes on a rant about how badly he wishes TR would fail, then I'd worry.
The PS4 sold 708k more than last year. That's an incredibly Ridiculous increase. X1 doing well too.Thank you for telling me who ZhugeEx is! I will remember to avoid him.
Similar to last month, I would now like to take the opportunity to release some data points from The NPD Group's U.S. Games Industry Sales (New Physical Sales Channel) report for November 2015.
Other data points will follow throughout the next few days as, like I said, I am very busy and can only be on NeoGAF for brief periods at this juncture.
Please keep in mind that The NPD Group tracks a 4-week month with a reporting period of 11/01/15 through 11/28/15.
Also, please read the following disclaimer:
NPD's monthly point-of-sale data reports on U.S. Games Industry sales occurring from new physical purchases at retail which is the largest channel for games sales, but does not represent 100% of industry sales; it does not account for consumer purchases made via digital distribution, used game sales, subscriptions, mobiles, rentals, or social network games. NPD's Games Market Dynamics: U.S. is issued quarterly and is NPD's official estimate of the consumer spend on the industry and it does include estimate of the size of these other monetization methods.
Sony Corp's 'PlayStation 4' took a commanding lead with 1539K units sold throughout the United States according to data from The NPD Group.
Microsoft Corp's 'Xbox One,' while still successful, was only up 5% year-over-year with 1296K.

It confuses me as much as the next person, but honestly in the unlikely case I wouldn't be surprised if NPD themselves are just throwing us a bone.
Major gaming websites still don't publish data they see here since they can't verify it. We may believe the data, but for people on the outside, there's still reasonable doubt and therefore the data won't proliferate to the extent that they perceive to threaten their business.

Makes the PS3's comeback all the more impressive, something that won't happen this gen. We're back to 5th/6th gen type stuff.
Oh, I get it now. You just wanna make avatars great again.
No software numbers yet. Might have to wait for the cream pies.So was that ~200k number for TR ever confirmed?
And did we get any Halo numbers?

This month's graph:
PS3 never made a comeback in the US.
It was the DVD player that opened the door on the PS2 as a mass market product. It was one of the cheapest (of its type) products on the market for a general consumer, making the system an easy choice over other players that could also entertain Little Billy with his games. The Wii/DS just outright kicked the door down with motion gaming, and then NetFlix. Both had something for the mass market from the onset, and they were marketed/sold properly on that fact.
These are obviously non-existent factors for the PS4.
What would it take to get this chart showing GCN/PS2/XBOX, PS3/360/WII, and WIIU/PS4/XBO?
Slightly mind blowing that PS4 more than doubled the Xbox 360 holiday that had Halo 3, Mass Effect, BioShock, and the lion's share of Call of Duty 4 sales. And Xbox One even eclipsed it by half a million units. These systems are off to an incredibly strong start.Just note that my previous post was comparing the families exclusively (Xbox and PS were 3rd year, Nintendo was 4th), not everything in one timeline.
This is every home console from the 6th gen up ranked by their 3rd November.
1. Wii - 2,040,000
2. PS4 - 1,539,000
3. Xbox One - 1,296,000
4. PS2 - 1,284,000
5. Xbox 360 - 770,000
6. Gamecube - 754,000
7. Xbox - 490,000
8. PS3 - 378,000
9. Wii U - 240,000
Consoles are dead.
Just listening to IGN Xbox podcast, marty (who I don't like at all) drops a little quip about Shenmue (which I also don't care for) saying that ROTR will sell leagues ahead of Shenmue... at this point isn't ROTR in the same kind of situation some Vita games are in -_-
I'm surprised that even the XB1 is outselling the Wii at that point from 2009. Aside from soft Wii U performance, this generation is awesome.
It made a comeback 2009 onwards, it just never became number one which is a different matter.

Mods taking shots at Zhuge, lmao. Who even needs definite numbers with this kind of entertainment?
I am surprise Sony did not say much of anything for Black Friday or today looking at these numbers.
That's a strange statement since New Vegas had a better launch than Fallout 3.Up 70% versus Fallout: New Vegas and 9% versus Fallout 3, more comparable to Skyrim
