Tekken needs a reboot bad.

Because dumping fan favorites worked so well for Soulcalibur... Then, again, this is Namco. Tekken bombing probably will just convince them to disband the Soulcalibur team again, if they haven't done so already.

Personally, as far as extra content go, I thought they should have build up on the whole action game concept that Tekken 6 had going, rather than dump it completely like a bad experiment. It was heavily flawed, but I think something like that had a bigger mainstream appeal than stuff like Combot that they tried here.

There needs to be a serious go at reinventing a pretty stale genre. Note, that doesn't mean you can't have fun with old designs just tinkered with over the years, but it's creaky and old as well as horribly homogenous in approach, even across the polar ends of the modern entries in the genre. Next-gen will hopefully bring some new blood to the concept, but I doubt it as it will be lazy visual upgrades as focus again and again. Also, I really think it's time that all of the major fighters started to embrace DD channels instead of relying upon $50/$60 full-priced retail releases that don't feel much changed from installment to installment for the average buyer. Sports games can only get away with it because they're much more mainstream and they're built on monopolies of license.

Honestly they need a new visual style entirely, the current one is old and too common amongst all fighters.

Play dat Dishonored man.

Yeah, that is most def one I'll get around to, but I'd be more likely to crack on Xcom than Dishonored. Still, I'm passing on both until a Winter sale at least, I am fucking swamped with games.

Time, for once in my life, to exercise a LITTLE discipline.

LOL at Pachter trolling Nintendo again. He never fails.

Exactly. Legacy software sales decrease, but current software sales increase dramatically?

Doomed.

EDIT: To add to that, the NPD is becoming a farce of an organization. This list in NO WAY accurately depicts what consumers are spending money on, because we're getting sales of franchises, not software skus, like Famitsu does. How they are able to get away with this is mind-boggling.

I suspect hes making out that the 3DS while up is not making up for the reduction in DS sales.

DS had a lot more software in general, most of it was garbageware and many were in bargain bins. Of course it would be better if 3DS picked all of it up. But it's also worth mentioning 3DS titles costs 30% more even at full retail.

Who said anything about dumping fan favorites?

I am a huge FG player and former tournament Tekken player and even I think TTT2 is stale. Solid and well made for what it is but long in the tooth. The game has animation dating back to the Clinton administration.

I did not care for Borderlands at all, is Borderlands 2 even worth looking at if you disliked the first one? First one was bland, unimaginative mission design everywhere... endless worthless loot and questionable gunplay.

I love loot whore games, but Borderlands just felt like a really limited offline MMORPG, or 4-player MMORPG with guns. Is Borderlands 2 a vast enough improvement to give a shot?

Well, you mentioned a reboot - that presumably means a reduced cast list for new fighting mechanics. Even if they just kept some fan favorites and removed other characters, without adding new characters just to replace existing favorites, you'd still get a heavy reduction of roster size, considering how inflated Tekken's line up is.

Great sales for Borderlands.

US retail sales once again down yoy, 24% this time. Damn.

There's like 200 million current gen consoles in market- this slow down is expected.

Curious how much a price drop will spur sales - at least for the HD twins... Wii is about maxed out

Oh good, I'm not the only one who was confused by that remark.

Is NSMB2 doing well? I honestly can't tell, I would have thought it'd have sold more than this, I assume it'll get a boost in November

Its better than Borderlands 1 on every level. Still not sure whether I would recommend to someone who didn't care for the first one.

Given how well TTT2 and Tekken in general does in arcades in Japan I'm shocked anyone would say it needs a reboot or anything that could hurt it in the arcades.

Just seems like the audience isn't on consoles so more then likely we would lose out on amazing console ports and not Tekken in general.

Good. Tekken's roster is too big now. Ditching Ganryu and Wang isn't going to hurt sales.

Everthing about Tekken needs to be overhauled. Literally every aspect is stale. Even the art. If you look at the character select/promotional renders for characters you can't even tell which game they're from between 5, DR, 6, BR and TTT2.

Impressive Borderlands 2 numbers, very interested to see what Dishonored and X-Com sell this month.

Judging from Tony's comments in the Amazon DD thread, (Keep in mind that it's a single data point: Amazon PC DD) it sounds like XCOM is selling surprisingly well, while Dishonored is doing... eh, maybe not burning as brightly...

Primarily, if they fixed the mission design which imo was really lazy and repetitive in the first game and made loot more practical and immediately alluring, I'd be in for a shot. I love loot whore games, but Borderlands felt half-baked compared to the good ones. And the gunplay could be really iffy sometimes...

So, I guess that means the Wii and the PS3 sold around 280k units this month. I suspect I low-balled my predictions, for once.

Arcades are a sinking ship though. . .

Everything's a sinking ship (except mobiles, tablets and free to play games).

I'd take quality over quantity. No need for a massive roster if a ton of them are palette swaps. They really do need to build a graphics engine from the ground up and use new animations as well. And WTF is up with the background rotating separately from the ground still? I accepted it in 1994, but this is unacceptable in 2012.

Well yea if its not SF or Mahvel. I buy almost all the fighting games and I get mad sometimes when I buy release and in 3 weeks its 35$. The sony smash bros is gonna be the same.

Sigh now that I think about it PSAS will probably bomba as well some kind of way, terrible terrible year for fighting game sales :(.

Well graphics will one day be the death of companies if thats what kept people from buying this game. Graphics is probably the only real reason madden continues to sell every year. At this point I don't know why they just don't repackage the same exact game every year and just change player stats, people would never know the difference.

3DS software sales comprised less than 3% of the overall software market last September. An 89% jump sounds great all alone, but in context with this stat-- and with a much larger install base than last year-- 89% isn't really all that impressive.

Some Guild Wars 2 Stats collected from the web:

With peak concurrency regularly exceeding 400,000 players -- Taken from http://bastion.gamespress.com/release.asp?i=2258

Also the page notes that it reached 2 million over two weeks after the launch (they had to digitally stop sales because of the high concurrency), And for the whole month, I'd wager retail sales were 275,000 (since it's below mario at 295k) and digital were about 700,000. I'd imagine it's well on its way to 4 million, and probably will surpass Guild Wars 1 in its entire lifetime by the end of the year.

The digital sales is speculation on my part because of one million bought before the game launched, so I would assume after launch word of mouth spread like crazy.

I'd love to get some official numbers from ANet.

Since when? Gundam Extreme VS and Tekken have done amazing for Namco Bandai, certainly more then enough to keep the franchises going and probably easily cover Tekken's bomba.

Though this does easily show why NB is much smarter by leaving Extreme VS in Japan when major Fg franchises tank like this in the west.

I heard each gun actually feels different Amir0x, and the quests are more intuitive and less fetch and kill. Like having to stealth into an area (or go guns a-blazing) to rescue people, escort them out, etc.

If I remember correctly one of the gunmaker's guns reload style is throwing the gun like a grenade when you're out and you "summon" another gun in your hand.

I have a bad feeling the Wii-U will do dick all to help the dying console market, in the long run. Especially in this economy, people are being more picky about which games they snatch up, and the convenience of the home platform as consideration (more and more tablet and phone gaming). Generation fatigue isn't helping either...

That's really bad. I really do wonder what the future holds for the 3DS outside of Japan.

Alot of that is probably due to NSMB as well. Not a very healthy situation

Tekken does indeed need a reboot ..... have never heard of a Tekken game doing less than 2m. TTT2 looks like it wont even crack 1m

The game does have quality though and the only real complaint that comes up is the graphics. There are 2 games on that list that need overhuals and yet they still sell well, I wonder why that is? People don't care about quality all that often if that did madden should not be on the list at all.
