NPR: Ted Cruz says science doesn't support climate change

Just as an aside Ted Cruz has received donations from oil companies in the past, and I don't know why I bring this up because it obviously has nothing to do with anything. Purely a coincidence.

Ted Cruz is an incredibly smart (and scary) man and in his heart of hearts probably doesn't believe 90% of the shit he espouses. But he also knows it plays well to his audience, and what's ultimately good for the nation is a distant second for what's good for Ted Cruz.

Heard the interview this morning. Cruz was dodging questions and twisting facts. I especially liked his slimey comparisons of Syria and the first gulf war.

I heard it this morning, as I was getting up, but I was too groggy.

He mentioned something about the little people and how his mother was poor. Did he explain the relationship between this and the issue of climate change? Is there a relationship at all?

Responding to climate change will increase energy costs, which he says will hurt the poor and working class most of all. He also claimed that liberals do this for political and social control, but any assertion that there's money invested in denying climate change (e.g., the energy industry at large) is an ad hominem attack. An ad hominem against who he didn't say.

Given how shady, careful, and guarded party politics are in Washington D.C., the fact that we have countless reports of how other Republicans absolutely DESPISE Ted Cruz speaks volumes. You know it must be really, really bad if we're able to see through the looking glass that much. Cruz must be fucking insufferable to deal with on a political and personal level.

If we continue to "punish" energy companies by forcing them to upgrade their technology to reduce their emissions, they'll raise their prices, which will affect the poor who can barely afford to heat their homes.

So basically he cares mostly about the oil and gas industry, which is the 2nd largest source of funding to his campaign, and then through some series of hoops that don't necessarily correlate, crocodile tears trickle down to some minimum wage worker who he wants to remove the wage floor and take away social welfare for.

I really hate how politicised this topic is. The science is really basic and quite clear. And yet..

Cruz bitches about ad hominems while never answering a single question directly. I love that at one point you can hear Steve sigh loudly in the background.

Cruz is very worried about the "single mother waiting tables" whose energy bill is going to go up because scientists are engaged in a global conspiracy to trash the economy.

(Not worried enough to secure her healthcare, childcare, cheaper college tuition, paid maternity leave, improved labor conditions, or a better wage, of course.)

Cruz fucking cleans up among the AM radio crowd, which is appropriate because he acts just like a damn AM radio show host. He was getting sucked off by Mark Levin last night on his show and it was some cringe-y shit.

I agree with others who say he's too smart for this.

Part of me wants to believe that he knows most of this is BS and simply wants to appease his supporters in order to get into the White House, then ditch them.

These sorts of politicians know exactly what they're doing. You can't tell them "we see through your bullshit," because they know we do. They also know we can't or won't do jack shit about it. Go to any political or social topic on here, and you'll see people falling over themselves to keep the status quo in everything.

several fellow classmates who asked that their names not be used described the young Cruz with words like “abrasive,” "intense," “strident,” “crank,” and “arrogant." Four independently offered the word “creepy,” with some pointing to Cruz’s habit of donning a paisley bathrobe and walking to the opposite end of their dorm’s hallway where the female students lived.

“I would end up fielding the [girls’] complaints: 'Could you please keep your roommate out of our hallway?'" Mazin says.

And, you know, I want to be clear, because Ted Cruz is a nightmare of a human being. I have plenty of problems with his politics, but truthfully his personality is so awful that 99 percent of why I hate him is just his personality. If he agreed with me on every issue, I would hate him only one percent less.

In a just world, the press's job is to stop them by fact-checking them.

Most people don't listen to facts. They process facts through the lens of what they already believe or want to believe. People of average intelligence aren't capable of distinguishing fact from fiction when the fiction is presented by politically astute slimeballs.

The press could absolutely be more vigilant, but that alone won't cure apathy, ignorance, and flat out stupidity.

Jesus christ I don't understand Ted Cruz. He's a very, very smart person, but the stances he takes, the opinions he has. I don't fucking get it.

Is he just some self-serving egomaniac willing to say whatever it takes to be popular? Would he watch the country burn so long as he was the one in the lime-light? Is he just plain evil?

I think it's just cold calculation. There is a 98% consensus among scientists that global warming is a thing, but if you're in that 2% there is a really nice chance you'll have a think tank like the Heritage Foundation backing your bullshit because you're now a valuable asset to them as an authoritative figure that lends credibility to their denial. It's similar here in politics.

Hes just trying to pander to the base that also believes science doesn't back up global warming. Nothing new. This isn't even trump level crazy, it's like the status quo for republicans.

He's technically not wrong, there isn't a solid A to B connection to climate change, and that is the reason why many don't believe in it. Climate change has not been directly proven no matter how real or not real anyone thinks it actually is. It has evidence and you can see some correlations, but that's not actually enough to really convince those who don't believe in it to switch. Of course, this applies to other topics as well we led run on the streets so Im not surprised at the current push for regulations despite the heavy resistance.

I have no opinion on this either way.

Some of these politicians are probably too dumb to do any better, but likes of Ted Cruz and Mike Huckabee are cretins.

Man with Ted Cruz's intellect, record, and background could do a lot of good. He just chooses to do the opposite instead.

Why does the GOP have this hive mind mentality towards climate change? They treat it like it's a dirty word. It would make more sense to find fiscally responsible ways to address how we can curb climate change, rather than just outright trying to resist. It could still be a bipartisan issue without the flat out trying to antagonize the research.

Yeah, it's been status quo for that party since the 70s. Reagan laughed and mocked Carter for putting solar panels on the White House and quickly removed them as soon as he won office.

I just heard this on my drive to work. I literally shouted to no one "what the fuck Cruz."

Here's the thing that infuriates me about Cruz. He actually is a smart guy and I don't think for one iota that he actually believes the shit that he says. But he's basically using that knowledge to manipulate his way into power. He uses every single opportunity available to him, and every move is extremely calculated. Honestly, he scares me way more than Trump does since Trump spout out this hot-air rhetoric while Cruz has almost a fucking Jim Jones quality to him.

Simply well put.
I have a final question, and it will take some imagination.
There are two doors. Behind Door Number One is a completely sealed room, with a regular, gasoline-fueled car. Behind Door Number Two is an identical, completely sealed room, with an electric car. Both engines are running full blast.
I want you to pick a door to open, and enter the room and shut the door behind you. You have to stay in the room you choose for one hour. You cannot turn off the engine. You do not get a gas mask.
I'm guessing you chose the Door Number Two, with the electric car, right? Door number one is a fatal choice - who would ever want to breathe those fumes?
This is the choice the world is making right now.
To use one of the four-letter words all of you commenters love, I don't give a damn if you believe in climate change. I couldn’t care less if you're concerned about temperatures rising or melting glaciers. It doesn't matter to me which of us is right about the science.
I just hope that you'll join me in opening Door Number Two, to a smarter, cleaner, healthier, more profitable energy future.

I bet lots of GOP members believe Climate change is real. But that's not gonna get them votes from the crazies or money from oil companies. It's basically an endorsement deal, and can't be caught dead saying otherwise.

I lol'd at him disregarding the "I-95" corridor. Half the population or more of the east coast lives on the fucking "I-95" corridor. I live there you shitbird.

I thought the story was thread worthy because I feel that Ted Cruz, deep in my heart, will end up with the Republican nomination.
He won't get the nomination. He's the Santorum of this cycle: He'll win the Iowa Caucus with his appeal to Evangelicals but that's all his appeal. Whoever will eventually get the nomination will beat him elsewhere.

Interestingly, the leader of the opposition party in the UK who is left wing - his brother Piers Corbyn is a meteorologist and is a climate change skeptic. I wonder if that will have any influence on his brother.

I have to think this has less to do with pandering to republican voters, and pandering instead to lobbyists and republican doners

Ted Cruz is a man who, at Harvard Law, refused to study with classmates who went to "minor Ivies" like Penn and Brown for undergrad.

Yet a pretty sizable portion of poorly educated idiots think he's their champion.

Of course there is a solid a to b connection. There has been for decades. Don't let the existence of an opposition trick you into thinking there must be some merit to it.

I hope he keeps up the pandering. I'm also hoping that once Trump goes independent it'll split the votes between the party and ensure neither get in office.
